[4 In 1] EasyAcc Portable Wifi Wireless SD Card Reader & USB External HDD / SDD / USB Flash Disk Re

[4 In 1] EasyAcc Portable Wifi Wireless SD Card Reader & USB External HDD / SDD / USB Flash Disk Reader for iPad 4 mini / iPhone 5 4s / Nexus 7 / Samsung galaxy tab and other Smartphone & Tablets, Built-in 8800mah External Battery Pack can Charge your Smartphone and Portable Wifi Router FunctionI was supplied this free to test and review.

Tested using iPad2, a generic Chinese Android tablet and a HP Windows 8 laptop.

I have not seen a gadget before that enables a tablet without expandable storage to have access to almost limitless memory for storage. In addition to this it can act as a wireless router and a backup battery for phones etc.

Out of the box it needs charging and comes with a usb charging lead to connect to your own charger as it charges 4 blue leds progressively light and flash until all 4 are on steadily and it is then fully charged and ready to use.

As the set up seemed quite complicated I followed the fairly comprehensive instructions which were enclosed. After downloading the "FTP Manager" from Google Play and installing it (I used the Android tablet first) I then followed the instructions and was met with the message "Server not Found". It is probably apparent to everyone except me that the server would not be found until I logged on to the Wi-Stor.

The easiest way to set it up initially is to temporary replace your router with this one turn it on and look for EasyAcc_4005DE and log on to it (At this stage it is an open network). Then download the "FTP Manager" and run it to complete the set up. You can then put your router back. If you don't want to do this you have to download the "FTP Manager" on your normal set up and then switch to EasyAcc_4005DE to complete the settings, once you have done this you will not need to do it again.

The next thing I worried about was security as admin and admin are not the most secure names and passwords. The router has quite a range and my neighbour was able to log into it quite easily.

Nothing in the instructions indicate that you can change the security settings, however it is easy, enter the Server Address into the command line of your browser and the home screen opens allowing you to view all the settings and make the changes you want. The most important being to make it secure.

Now it is set up I could use my ipad or android tablet to access a variety of memory devices that are connected to the Wi-Store I tried it with a 32Gb SD card, the maximum it will take, a 64Gb flash drive and a 1TB portable hard drive, all worked perfectly.

This device is a boon if you want to take files that total more than the capacity of the tablet, my little Android tablet is 8Gb with no expansion capability but with this I was able to watch a number of films from the portable HDD.

The other useful thing this does is to work as a back up battery it will supply 5V through a usb socket, to switch the battery on in this mode you need to press the power button for 3 seconds, If you want to know the state of charge press the button briefly and some of the 4 leds will light up one for each 25% of charge.

After playing with this on my tablets I thought I would try it with my laptop. There was no problem whatsoever using it as a wireless router but when I came to transfer files it was more difficult. It is possible to directly transfer using the server address in the command line but it was not the most straightforward way of doing it. I looked for an equivalent of the apps that I used for the Android and iPad although there are many I found that "Free FTP Manager 2.2" worked as well as anything and it is free.

In summary I am not sure if there are any other gadgets like this which allow you to wirelessly expand the memory of tablet devices, share files between tablets, act as a Wireless router and storage battery. It is a very useful addition to anyone who finds the memory in their tablet too limited.

(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM)This is an unusual and multi-faceted device that acts as a wireless router, a power bank, wireless sharing and wireless storage capability. Each one has its own qualities and issues.

The wireless router sets up a network for yourself and up to five other users/partners/devices. Connect the Wi-Fi-routers LAN cord from your wired network to the EasyAcc through the Ethernet port. Set up is typical of any router. The unit has a simple on/off switch on the side for wireless routing with a white symbol that readily appears.

The built-in battery is an 8800mAh Li-Polymer. You can use this for charging Smartphones, Tablets, iPods, iPad, iPhones, etc. via the USB Port. I was able to charge my iPhone 3-1/2 times with one charge. My iPad mini was able to be fully charged once, with about 25% charge left over. The level of charge is set up in (4) four 25% increments. Mine came 50% charged and took about 2 hours to fully charge.

Wireless sharing with this system is great, as you can use it for work or sharing files with friends. It can also be used as a temporary router. I found sharing photos took a few seconds to transfer, but had a lot of difficulty sharing larger files like video files. It just didn't work that well. But, music files were a breeze.

Wi-Fi storage in enabled by inserting an SD Card (max 32gb) into the slot in the side of the device or inserting a Memory Stick (Maximum 64gb) in the slot on the end.

The device only weighs about nine (9) ounces and is 5"X 3" X 1" in size. It's just packed with a lot of options. All of this can be a little daunting if you are not familiar with all these modes. Simply put, you have some great photos on your SD card, by inserting it into the EasyAcc, you can share these with other smartphones, tablets, or on Facebook. When your smartphone or tablet is out of space, instead of deleting any data connect a Flash drive to give yourself instant extra memory. If you are on an airplane or camping where there is no power, you can use the internal battery with its 8800mAh capability for fast recharging. The Wi-stor Wizard can establish a wireless network just by connecting it with a network cable.

When you compare the prices of storage devices, power banks, router and other wireless sharing devices, this little gadget does the trick. Device supplied for an honest review.

The Wi-Stor is a jack of all trades, and offers a ton of functionality. If you're looking to reduce the amount of stuff that goes in your laptop bag, travel a lot, or you simply really like tech, this is definitely worth a try! The manufacturer sent me a sample of this device, this review is my honest opinion.

Please excuse the fact that I have written in bullet points there's so much to cover that full sentences would have gotten tiring to read.

SO WHAT CAN IT DO?

Acts as as normal wi-fi router

Charges a portable device's battery with the built-in 5V USB charging port

Add 32GB of hard drive space wirelessly to any device using the SD slot

Acts as a wireless SD card reader (studio photographers take note!)

Add an almost limitless amount of hard drive space wirelessly to any device using the USB port

WHAT I LOVE

The sheer functionality of the thing!

All operations can be run on the internal battery or a USB power cable

That I can add my own hard-drive via USB

Sharing SD photos just got a whole lot easier

Portable router? SO many problems solved

WHAT I WOULD IMPROVE:

Instructions aren't great, if you don't like to tinker this may not be for you

Suggested app is not the most intuitive I think EasyAcc would be wise to hire an app developer

Had some sluggishness with video playback...SD card is rated for 90MB/s and wifi speeds should handle it so I have to assume it's the firmware?

A CF card reader would be SO great, especially for pro photographers who tend to use CF over SD

OVERALL

I took a star off for some polishing that needs done, but this is a solid start to a device with lots of potential. To use an analogy, this is like the Swiss Army Knife of tech gadgets, except the blades of this knife need a little sharpening. With a dedicated app and some firmware improvements for handling large files/video, this would be an easy five stars. For the price, recommended, although for the non technologically-inclined, there may be some frustration in setting the device up.

Lately, I have had the opportunity to evaluate several external power banks. I have also reviewed several small wireless N routers that can be used for travel. However, I have never reviewed a product quite like the EASYACC Wi-Stor. It combines a beefy power bank (8800mAh), with a router, AND it has the capability for file sharing across platforms...including iPhones and iPads.

That is not to say that the EASYACC Wi-Stor has completely unlimited capabilities. In a perfect world you could store dozens of movies, thousands of songs, and millions of pictures on an external drive that you could stream to your iPad. While it will work for pictures I have not been able to stream in other types of media to my iPad. This may limit your movie watching ability, but it still is a powerful tool -especially for business. This is a device that will allow you to arrange all of your PDF and Word files onto a disc that can be accessed remotely but multiple parties. POs, invoices, and other documents can be easily filed and pulled up when needed.

Notes -

Features a 8800mAh power bank. This is enough capacity to fully charge an iPad 2 or charge an iPhone 3-4times. It also gives the EASYACC Wi-stor the ability to work as a file server and router without the need of an external power supply. Make sure that you push (and hold) the power button for 3 seconds before trying to charge any device.

Wireless A/G/N supported router. Having a small wireless router is helpful when you travel. You never know when you are going to come across a hotel room that only has free LAN through ethernet cables. With a small router you can broadcast your own wireless signal. Also, the fact that it can be run off of the power bank means that you can use it as a router in the event of a power outages.

The file sharing requires a SD card, external hard drive, or USB jump drive none-of-which are included.

File sharing is not quite perfect it works great for pdf, word, and jpg but I have not been able to transfer a movie from an SD card back to my iPad. Also, I have been unable to transfer anything from my iPad back to the SD card on the EASYACC. I am attributing this mostly to the restrictiveness of Apple and less as a deficiency on the part of EASYACC.

Remember to change the security settings if you re going to store PO's and invoices using the default username and password will likely leave your files vulnerable.

Requires that you download the free version of FTPManager the app is a bit clumsy, and the directions for setting up the router through FTPManager are not exactly correct, but a little common sense will walk you through the set-up

Charges through a 5V 1A USB port I wish that you had the option to plug it into a 110V wall outlet, but I guess this allows it to more of a global device.

Size it is a bit on the heavy side and it is about 30% larger than a deck of cards, in fact it is roughly the size of an iPhone, but weighs about 20% more

Does not come with a case.

Final VerdictThe EASYACC Wi-Stor is one of the better tablet accessories available to businessmen/women. It allows colleagues to wirelessly share files across platforms. This allows PO's or other sales related documents to be available, with near limitless capacity. You will need to work through your security settings, but the EASYACC Wi-stor is a great blend of file sharing, portable router, and file server. Recommended

4 1/2 Stars
