Sony CLIE PEG-NR70V Handheld PDA

Sony CLIE PEG-NR70V Handheld PDAI agree with many of the reviews (buttons poorly placed, keyboard arguably not faster than Graffiti, excellent screen color, etc.), and love the device in general; but would like to give you more info about the camera to help choose between the V and non-V models. I have owned a 3.2 megapixel digital camera, and the Handspring expansion Eyemodule camera for comparison. The CLIE camera takes descent color photos. They appear particularly nicely on the small PDA screen, and can easily take photos in good light (mandatory, no flash), especially of close objects (within 5-6 feet). Great for quick photos of people (can even take mini size and attach to address files!), kids, etc. At a distance, slightly grainy for sure, but I have photographed my house, my car, and even my flagpole with good success. Again, bright light is required for a good shot. Can take MANY shots without wearing down the battery (exactly how many i do not know, but would guess dozens and dozens), and they are all thumbnailed in tiny size in the PDA program to allow access, review. Can import/export to Memory Stick, and I have a 128MB Memory STick in the slot [price] and can store hundreds of color photos. Uses: I have a friend househunting who uses his to take photos of each home. Take car wreck damage photos, take people you meet at a bar photos, take road sign photos for directions, a quickpic for on-line sales, covertly snap people you work with to show the spouse ("this is Jennie that I work with...see, she ain;t so cute"), etc. The fact that you have the camera all the time is a major plus! Can change effects, can take B/W pics, can change lighting sensitivity, can even do some (useless) fun picture effects (solar, negatives, etc.). All photos can be modified on the CLIE with PaintWorks (included) right on the CLIE to add funny gestures, change some colors, and such (but does not crop, enlarge etc.) Negative: unlike my Eyemodule Handspring that can hotsync the images to a PC, Sony has decided to make us buy a Memory Stick and Reader/Writer ([price]; the knock-off reader only is [price]) to get the photos from CLIE, to Stick, to PC. Once on the PC can modify with any software program you use, as these are JPEG images. Can email, print hard copy and the like. The Sony Memory Stick reader/writer is also very helpful, but I do not beleive required, to get your CD collection on Memory Stick MP3s for CLIE listening. So, bottom line, you will be spending another [price] dollars beyond the PDA price to get a large size Memory stick and the reader, count on it. I personally use the camera every few days, which is more than I can say for my digicam that I never seem to have when I need it. For the extra [price] bucks, the camera, in my humble opinion, is very worthwhile. Happy shooting!

Once, years ago, I had proclaimed, "I could never use a PDA; I'd always be worried about running out of batteries or losing the information. Good old paper organizers are enough for me." That was then. A while later, while sorting through all my Post-It notes and hand "archiving" them into the back pocket of my fabric organizer, I decided to look into PDAs. Couldn't I keep a typed list of things to do without straining for hours to decipher my hasty handwriting on yellow bits of paper? Wouldn't it be nice to put an organizer that weighed a few ounces into my bag instead of the one I had which was quickly reaching the weight of a brick? Being a student, I wanted something reliable that also scored exceptionally well in the "coolness" section. My first inclination was to go with a Palm Pilot after all, they're everywhere, right? Palm this, Palm that. Celebrities swear by them according to a few magazines, ads show off shiny new models all the time, and "Palm Pilot" seems to have become synonymous with the word "PDA." That's it, I had decided. I'm going with a Palm m100 or m105 (a decision purely determined by price); the next day, I said, "That's it, I'm going with the Handspring Visor (the decision purely determined by the cool case colors).

Little did I know that seeing a PDA on the web is very different from seeing a PDA in person. Like supermodels and magazine covers, most photos of PDAs seem to go through this "retouching" phase thanks to Adobe. When I saw the Palms, I was immediately disappointed; the screens were barely visible to me. When I saw the Handsprings, I was again disappointed; the supposedly vibrant "colors" turned out to be rather dull and unimpressive. After asking others for their opinions, I was told that the Sony Clié was the best way to go. The Sony what? I had never even heard that Sony was in the PDA business. A sales guy showed me the Sony Cliés it was instant love. I first purchased the Sony T-615, a perfectly competent model that did everything I hoped it would; until, that is, the NR-70V came out. As someone who loves the latest and greatest, I traded it in for the newest model. A built-in keyboard? Better resolution? A camera? I was sold! Of course, there were those who jealously defended their Palm Pilots, insisting that Palms were the best in this and that, that Sonys can't even touch what they had. Well, I was already taken by the Sony. I now laugh that I went from the... 150 m100 or m105 to the... NR-70V. What a leap!

I had just returned from a summer vacation to Thailand. I always use a vacation as a diagnostic test on how effective an electronic device is. Why? Because while at home I am gingerly handling the device, careful not to scratch it, afraid of wasting the batteries, terrified of using it too much; while on vacation, however, thrown into, ironically, hectic situations (handling airline schedules, quickly converting currencies in line at the store, checking world times before flights, bringing up dictionaries to haggle with store owners), I am forced to break out the device to apply it to life situations. In Thailand, the PDA never left my side. Carefully protected in its Brando leather case, I used it for everything (see parentheses above). I even took pictures with it. Be careful to note, however, that the camera on this device is not top quality; they're pictures you take for fun, not ones you take to print out brilliant photos later. So, if you do want to take digital pictures on vacation, be sure to bring a capable camera. However, there's great value in having a camera with you all the time. The camera is great for taking quick photos when you don't have the time to whip out your digital camera (or even when you forget to bring it). "I wish I had a camera with me!" Well, now you do.

A variety of programs can also make your NR-70V even more useful. BugMe! is a program that is designed like Post-It notes (you know, the pieces of paper I used to have all over the place pre-PDA); you just tap the icon on your device, bring up a new "sheet," and use your stylus to write right on the screen in your own handwriting. A great program for those who don't want to use Graffiti or type on the cumbersome mini-keyboard. Another program called Energy Dimmer is great for automatically dimming the backlight of your PDA after a number of seconds. If you are going to use this PDA for typing up notes, keeping the backlight on will drain the batteries quickly (along with using intensive programs such as games). Download this program so it will dim when it is idle, thus saving you batteries and the trouble of turning the device on and off every few minutes.

After visiting three airports, countless stores and restaurants, and many scenic sights, I have to say that this is the best PDA on the market. There are several good reviews out there that contain more technical jargon than I've provided here; I just hope this review has been helpful for those seeking a more "day-to-day" review. Some more specific points and tips to help you decide:

* The button placements are not ideal. They are awkward, requiring one to reach in and push into the heart of the PDA.

* The built-in keyboard is not very user friendly. The buttons are small; not much of a relief from using the Graffiti. It is a pain to capitalize and use numbers. I recommend getting the newly released PEGA-KB11 keyboard. It's a fold-out and full-sized keyboard that allows you to type as though you are on a laptop.

* If you want to use the camera instead of a digital camera (meaning these are just fun photos, not to be printed at great quality), use it with plenty of light, as there is no flash included. I took photos of some people in my tour group one in a dark restaurant, the other in a bright restaurant the difference is great. You can take pictures of people with this and insert the thumbnail photo in your address book.

* The MP3 player, in my opinion, is not very useful. First of all, you need a special white memory stick (different from the blue ones) to store the files. The price can add up. The design of this PDA is also a bit bizarre, so it's not really convenient to use it as a music player.

* The screen resolution is the best on the market right now. Some PDA screens will become almost unreadable with the backlight off; the Sony is still readable (with some reasonable ambient light) without the backlight.

* Be sure you can live with the clamshell design. Many people find this design awkward and unnecessary. Personally, I think it gives the PDA a "mini laptop" feel and plenty of versatility. You can sit it open like a laptop, flip the screen over like a spiral notebook, et cetera.

* If you don't want to use the cradle to charge or hotsync, purchase a cable that'll allow you to charge and hotsync via your computer (using the USB slot).

In conclusion, the Sony Clié NR-70V is a great buy if you know it'll be compatible with your needs. It is always with me, and many programs and add-ons can enhance the experience. This is your all-in-one device: an organizer, a camera, a currency converter, a laptop, a photo gallery, a subway map, your international watch, a music player, a remote control, a movie player, etc. After having this for a few months, I can't believe I ever preferred a paper organizer over this. This is definitely everything you want it to be.

I was looking for a new PDA to replace my outdated, stuffed-to-the-brim, b&w handheld. When I just happened on Sony's site and saw the PEG-NR70V Bam! Love at first sight!

The clamshell design is wonderfully different and the hi-res color, 180 degree rotating screen will make you the envy of everyone in the room. Games, pictures and even movies (!) look marvelous on the large crystal-clear display.

Those "gee, I wish I had a camera on me" moments will be no more. The built in camera takes decent pics on the fly. You can even edit them with the CliePaint app.

The 66mhz Processor makes your apps fly and the more the merrier with the 16mb of internal memory. Considering that the Clie also supports Memory Stick expansion, you'll always have room for that must-have application, or your collection of MP3s. Listen to musuc on the train as you read your synched morning newspaper with the AudioPlayer software and included earphones with remote!

If you must have the latest and greatest, then the Clie NR70v is definately for you. I've had no problems with mine and love the stares!

This PDA kicks [rear]! I've been waiting for about a year to replace my Palm V and saw this model at a party and had to have it. Sony has sone a great job coming up with ways to make the platform better that I would never have thought of. Example: when you write on the grafitti area, the Clie traces your stroke, to show you briefly what you've written, so that if you're consistantly writing a letter wrong, you'll see why. Don't like grafitti? No problem. The integrated keyboard is as easy to use as a blackberry or any of the small attachable keyboards currently available. The screen is bright and sharp, the mp3 sound is as good as my mp3 player, and the photo and video is sharp as well. The third-party software is easy to install fun, and easy to use as well. It uses the same Palm desktop as my old PalmV and so I was able to transfer all my old data with no sweat.

The memory stick works just like an external drive when the unit is in its cradle, so it's a snap to transfer files, music, pictures back and forth from my PC. You don't even have to hotsync.

The camera is actually useful, although it has no flash or adjustable shutter.

If I have any complaints it's that it doesn't go as long on a single charge as my Palm did, but then, my old Palm didn't have an MP3 player and camera running down the battery, and, to be really petty, the stylus is very thin and not as comfortable to hold as the Palm's. I'm not usually one to jump on the first new technology as soon as it hits, but this is just too cool not to have.

Want Sony CLIE PEG-NR70V Handheld PDA Discount?

OK, so I'm one of those gadget guys that has to go out and always buy the latest everything...and much to my wife's dismay, spend a lot of money in the process. As far as PDA's go, I have been from the Palm (m505), to Pocket PC (Ipaq) and now I'm back to the Palm again with the Sony Clie. Always looking for new features, I have been attracted to different PDA's for different features...and of course, the industry cannot come out with one single unit that does everything because that would hurt their bottom line, so I have been forced to buy several different types of PDA's.

The Sony Clie does not disappoint when it comes to features and overall aesthetics/appearance. Sony is the first that I've seen to realize that it's a smart idea to include the "case" as a feature of the unit itself. If you want to purchase a leather case to protect your unit even further, you can definitely do so, but the design of the NR70V has a nice titanium looking hard case on the outside of the unit which protects itself. No need to carry the bulky pocket-book looking leather cases.

This isn't a review that will list every feature of the unit because you can get that by just visiting the Sony web site ... Instead, I'll highlight some of the good and bad features for you so that you can make an informed decision.

First of all, as of the date of this review (6/11/2002), the price of the unit was still in the high [$$$] range, which is an extremely high price for a PDA. Waiting a few months, you may find the price will drop a couple hundred bucks and let you pocket that hard earned money.

The digital camera that comes with the unit is nothing more than a novelty. Don't fool yourself into thinking that you'll use this to take pictures at your next social function or Holiday party. The resolution is horrible, but with that said, you are buying a PDA folks. Despite Sony's attempts to promote this unit as an all-in-one "Personal Entertainment Organizer", it is still a PDA. Which means that you shouldn't expect a 4 mega-pixel camera. The camera should be used in its context, which for example may include taking a picture of a book in a bookstore that you want to make sure you read in the future, or a picture of the CD in the music store that you want your wife or parents to buy you for your birthday. Bottom line on the camera is don't set your expectations too high and you won't be disappointed. It might be cool at first, but should not be a deciding factor in your purchase decision.

The music player feature is great. You can play mp3's and use your PDA just like a walkman. The thing to watch our for here is that unfortunately Sony does not include a memory stick with this unit, despite its price (not even a 4MB stick to get you started!!), which I found extremely annoying. If you're going to play more than a few songs at a time, you'll need to invest in at least a 128MB memory stick which will run you upwards of [$$$] depending on where you buy it (cheapest place I found was by using the shopping comparison on Yahoo!).

The screen that the Sony comes with is superb to any that I have seen. The resolution is great, pictures show up clear, and movies are also pretty good. (this technology has a long way to go, but Sony is still at the top of the list).

Having experiences the ease of use of the PocketPC, I find several features of the Palm OS, and in turn, the Sony Clie, extremely frustrating. For example, there is no software that allows you to see all files that you have saved on your unit in one screen, and allow you to open/delete/change or beam them. The unit comes with MS Gate which is a program that attempts to do this, but unfortunately is extremely lacking. The features I found most annoying is that it lists ALL files, including system files that you don't care about, and it also will not let you open any of the files from this program. In contrast, the PocketPC lets you simply use something just like the Explorer included with Windows (as a general comment, if you are used to Windows and do not want to deter from it, go with a PocketPC and stay away from Palm).

The QWERTY keyboard is a great feature of the unit. It makes entering everything much easier, and for those of you that find Graffiti frustrating, this is your savior.

For some reason, the people that designed this unit put the audio speaker on the bottom of the unit in the exact place that your hand goes when you're holding it. This muffles any sound that comes out, and seems like poor design....just my humble opinion.

The size of the unit is great. It's nice and slim and rivals the M500 and Palm V series. Something frustrating to note hear is that the screen is a good size, but unfortunately you cannot always use its full length. Only certain applications that have been specifically designed for the full screen will let you take FULL advantage of it.

Well...have I said enough?? Overall, I think the Sony Clie NR70V is a step above the rest and Sony has made a good and pioneering effort to include several features that you can't find on any other PDA's. The question is, whether or not these features will make you fork out the extra few hundred dollars. For me, the answer was Yes, but being the gadget guy only means that I'll be doing it again with the next model, and the Clie NR70V will be a thing of the past. Spend wisely.

In the Day that I received in my mail box I was very happy! how soon I open and try to use the I-phone 3 G Wallet, the tragedy start; on exterior, the looks and color is OK, with out the cell phone inside; the 2 Card Slots is a single pocket, for 2 option, for long and short cards, no room for more than 2 cards capability; the third card will not let the wallet to close; this wallet, is no better than the ones for $2.99 with delivery from E-bay, and they are anti shock protected too; the glue that is use, between Plastic cell holder and plastic wallet wall, for example, in Florida Outside at 80 Fahrenheit, go away, like melted, and the I-phone will slip out, in your pocket or to any movements; also if you keep the wallet on the Sun light, every day, on one face will lose the color! I've tried these on several devices. It works on all of them, but I wouldn't recommend using them to draw professionally, but they're great for practice. I really have nothing bad to say about these. They're just nothing ground-breaking. I would recommend buying these. I haven't put TOO much time into these, so I can't really comment on how long they last, but you get more than 3, and they're pretty cheap. Nothing bad to say about that.

Got these because we elderly folks have problems texting with our clumsy fingers. I use them with my kindle and my iphone, my husband uses them with his phone. So far they've been durable, and it's handy to have the extras since we misplace tiny things occasionally.

I wasn't sure because of the low price but these stylus work great. The size is also a nice feature, small enough to fit in your pocket but not too small to hold.

Wireless Portable Finger Handheld Laptop USB Mouse Mice Trackball Mouse with Laser Pointer for Wind

Wireless Portable Finger Handheld Laptop USB Mouse Mice Trackball Mouse with Laser Pointer for Windows XP / Vista / 7 and Mac OSI have Essential Tremor, so regular mice are a problem. I've used a large track ball for years but it's too big to carry with my laptop, plus the connecting cord is a problem. This unit works great out of box; the laser is good for presentations. The unit gives much more flexability than a regular mouse or track ball since I can rest my hand comfortably while using it.

I've had it for a couple of weeks & love it. Hope it lasts.

JOINNEW@ New For Apple 85W Macbook Pro 13'15'17'AC Power Adapter Charger Cord A1222 A1172The first one lasted 5 days and just stopped working. The seller responded and sent me out another one right away. The brick

does get very hot and I think it burned out so I used the extension from my original apple charger so that the brick was not

I dont regret the purchase as the price is right.

AGPtek® USB Programming Cable for Baofeng UV-5R UV-3R+ Radio With Software

AGPtek® USB Programming Cable for Baofeng UV-5R UV-3R+ Radio With SoftwareI was hesitant purchasing this cable and software CD. Many reviews of software / cable packages indicated users had problems installing the proper versions of the software to work with their cable. According to the reviews on those other cables, people were trying to overcome an issue with using Prolific software on non-Prolific cables. This was not an issue with this purchase.

This cable and software was installed on my Windows 7 machine; I followed the instructions and it worked FLAWLESSLY the first time.

After running the installation CD, the driver that's installed for this cable to work is provided by Prolific Technology, Inc. The driver version is 3.3.2.105, dated 10/27/2008, ser2pl64.sys.

I first installed the software from the CD, then plugged in the USB cable to the computer (in that order). Once the cable was connected to the computer, a pop-up balloon window told me the cable associated with COM 3. GOOD! I then started my radio software (CHIRP) and it auto-detected the cable at COM 3, and I was able to download the radio data to my computer on the first try. NICE! No computer reboot required, either.

EDIT: From Device Manager under Ports (COM & LPT), I right-clicked on Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port and wandered through the properties. On the Driver tab, I manually told Windows to update this driver (newer should be better, right?). With the latest online update installed (driver version 3.4.36.247 dated 7/26/2012), the cable failed to operate. The Device Status then read, "This device cannot start. Code 10." Looks like we have a non-Prolific cable. To return to the OLD driver that WORKED, simply click on ROLL BACK DRIVER on the same window. Don't update the driver and you'll be OK.

73's

The cable had one of the counterfeit chips in it, and so it does not work with Windows 7 x64 drivers. If you're going to counterfeit the chip, at least take the time to tweak the drivers so that they will work.

The cable is pretty good for what you pay, but forget entirely about the software. Is not even worst, it is junk.

I guess for a cable is a good price.

Handspring Visor Edge (Metallic Silver)

Handspring Visor EdgeI bought my Edge through the Handspring Website because they weren't available any where else at the time. I've been happy with it, even thought the first one crashed, and they had to send me a new one. They sent the replacement next day air and I haven't had a single problem since. I bought the Edge instead of the Handspring Platinum because the Edge was quite a bit thinner and had an internal rechargeable battery so I didn't have to spend a fortune on AAA batteries. The Palm V is the closest relative to the Edge in the Palm family, but I thought that Handspring had a better product with their Springboard module. I've already purchased the one step back up module which works great when you're away from your computer. In addition, I purchased the InnoPak/2V vibrator along with a Handspring belt type carrying case so that I can wear my Edge and have it vibrate for appointments. I figure that if it's on my belt I'll get that much more utility out of it. The only thing that I don't like about the Edge is that it's a new enough model that I'm not able to get all the accessories for it yet like the Targus foldable keyboard and the travel charger/synch cable.

After reading the last 3 reviews, all I can say is how surprised I am that people have had problems with the Visor Edge. My experience with it has been nothing short of stellar.

The Edge is fast, has a clear screen, and feels rock-solid and durable. I have many different programs on it and it's fully Palm compatible. The lid is the best of any PDA I've ever owned, bar none; coupled with the fit and finish, it does a great job of protecting the screen. So far, I haven't felt the need to fold it flat to the back of the Edge, the settings provided by hadspring seem fine to me and well thought out.

I have one complaint about my Edge. The adapter for the springboard modules is basically a kludge. While it's not a bad design, fitting tightly to the unit and locking with a satisfying click, it's not a good one either. It makes the Edge far thicker, and it prevents you from using the lid as the adapter uses the same attachment point. Springboard modules are fairly big but surely a better design was possible.

If you need a solid PDA, buy this one. As for the other reviewers' problems, all I can think of is that I waited a few weeks before I made my purchase. Perhaps an early run of Edges had problems(?).

Buy Handspring Visor Edge (Metallic Silver) Now

The Edge solved the one real drawback of the Visor Deluxe: you couldn't carry it in your pocket without looking like a total dweeb. The Edge's size and perfectly designed lid fit nicely into a shirt or jeans pocket without worrying about a case. Probably not the best choice for people who keep Springboard modules in it all the time, since the module holder is kind of clunky, but this isn't a problem since I use only the Backup module and remove it after I'm done. (Don't even think about travelling with a Visor without the Backup module.) I waited a month before writing my review, to see if I would have any of the reliability problems that were reported early on. Maybe the first batch of Edges had some quality problems, but it looks like those were solved before I got mine. I'd highly recommend the Edge to anyone who carries a PDA in their pocket.

I purchased a Visor Edge a few weeks ago, and I must say that I am completely in love with it.

Like most people, I did my research prior to purchasing a PDA and was initially put off the Visor Edge by all the negative reviews I encountered. I noticed however that the negative reviews relating to the hardware problems were dated a long time ago, and I figured that Handspring MUST have sorted out their production issues by now. This convinced me to include it on my list to 'testdrive'.

All PDAs work pretty much the same if they have PALM OS.

Much like mobile phones, PDAs all essentially do the same thing.

So what is there to differentiate PDAs?

First of all you need to decide if you are a PalmOS or a WinCE person. I chose PALMOS because I dont need 2 laptops.

To differentiate between the PALMOS products, my list was: Rechargeable battery, size of screeen, price competitiveness, overall thickness, and of course sex appeal. For me, the Visor Edge won hands down (especially sex appeal) Sure it doesnt have the latest operating system or blue tooth capability (will you REALLY use this?) and I did not feel that double the price justified something that I would not notice or use.

Just a point of note: The first Visor Edge I got did not work! It refused to charge or power on. Luckily after reading the negative reviews I had decided not to leave the shop until I was satisfied I had received a working Visor. This proved to be a smart strategy.

As part of your research, visit visorvillage.com for all those free programs you can use with your Visor.

Want Handspring Visor Edge (Metallic Silver) Discount?

When I first reviewed the sleek Visor Edge, it cost about twice what it does today. At the time, I advised buyers that this product was definitely going to come down in price so it can compete. Handspring finally has priced this product where it is extremely competitive with any product in the marketplace.

Functionally, the Visor Edge's sole advantage is its thinness. It is by far the thinnest PDA.

Functionally, the Edge is identical to the Visor Neo, except it is thinner with a rechargeable battery. This is the Palm OS equivalent of the Apple Cube -a beautiful machine that didn't justify its high initial cost. As with the Cube after it was discontinued, you can now get a great deal on the Edge.

Buyers may also want to check out the discontinued Palm Vx, which feels better in your hands and actually weighs about an ounce less.

BTW, putting the Springboard module on this product makes it look totally unwieldy and eliminates the "cool" factor. If you like Springboard, keep your Visor Deluxe/Neo.

StarTech 3.5-Inch Bay Ejectable Multi Memory Card Reader (35FCREADREM)

StarTech 3.5-Inch Bay Ejectable Multi Memory Card ReaderNo more running Reader cables to your desk , unit works great , no problems , takes up unused old 3.5 floppy drive space , has two additional USB ports front panel.

I enjoy it .

This is a high quality reader. Read and write times using the Compct Flash drive are really fast. I had a cheaper unit and the CF read and write times were extremely slow, even though it was USB 2.0. If you want faster CF read and writes, this unit will do that. In addition, the reader unit pops out for mobility. That means you have an internal reader and an external reader in one unit.

Update: 08/24/2011

I've had no problems with this unit. It's probably the best reader I've owned.

The post, "Works, But It Is Cheap," is NONSENSE! The device is well made and it gives a lot of bang for the buck. It is worthy of 5 stars! I was hard pressed to find a Multi Reader with two(2) USB ports AND which fits into a 3.5-inch floppy bay such as this one. The installation instructions clearly indicate that the front-panel USB ports connect to the motherboard, NOT an external USB port. If you don't want the front panel USB ports, then don't bother with the motherboard connection. It's the removable (ejectable) Multi Panel that needs the external USB connection, which is a good thing for users who don't have a USB port inside their computers. If you do have a conventional USB port that is otherwise unused inside your computer such as may be on a plug-in card, then use it instead. The backside of the removable Multi Panel has a "female" USB port that allows the Multi Panel to plug into other computers through a standard USB cable, such as a laptop so that an additional reader is not needed for the laptop. Considering that the product is designed to be physically stressed (by inserting and unplugging cables and flash media) and then to install it with just one measly screw is just plain foolish. I was concerned about using just two mounting screws, one on each side, which was all I could use. Four mounting screws would be better but with just two, the product holds fast. This is a great product. This is a 5-star product!!!

The entire unit including the frame with the USB ports on it fits into a 3.5" floppy drive bay, which is the selling point for me. The advertised Product Dimensions: 2.2 x 7.2 x 5.5 inches is confusing on this point. I used this StarTech product to replace a defective BayOne AVI Plus (tm) device.

The two problems I had were:

I had to modify the cable and my case to make it all fit tight.

Optoma PK201, VGA, 20 LED Lumens, Pico Pocket Projector

Optoma PK201, VGA, 20 LED Lumens, Pico Pocket ProjectorI'm in the tech field and I've been waiting for the pico projectors to come down in price. I just never expected one of this quality and feature set to sell for under $300.00. I've looked at the 3M ones and some of the others but none come close to this 20 lumens switch blade of a Pico projector. I got mine about 3 weeks ago and I've been using it constantly. Everyone who see's it is like "I'm so getting one of these". I like the fact that it came bundled with the cables required to connect your laptop. With other units this was extra as well as a case. I purchased the IPOD connector kit so I could hook up my Iphone. It looks awesome with video coming from my Iphone. Please note that the extra battery in the Ipod/Iphone connector kit is for the PK101/102 projectors and will not fit in the PK201. So bascially I'll ebay that battery. The Arcsoft media software I'm not so happy about. I tried converting a video to the PK201 profile settings in Arcsoft only to have it not work on the unit. If I convert the same file utilizing Arcsoft's PK101 profile (lower video bit rate) then the file will play on the PK201. I have a support case open with them about but its really an Arcsoft issue. I've worked around that anyway by utilzing other software to do the job. Long story short is that I've done a lot of research regarding the Pico Projectors, this is by far the best due to its brightness, input capabilities, resolution, and ability to play content on its own (built in media player). Those are some of the most important things to me when I was looking for a Pico Projector. Did I also mention it utilizes Micro SD so I you can have up to 16gb of storage. It's great just taking this unit out without having to hookup any wires and play a movie or project a powerpoint. I've never written a review before and I hope this helps you in selecting a Pico Proejctor.

Cheers

This little projector is a joy in the dark.

The ability to throw in a SD card and let it play is genius. It will even pick a piece of music off the card to play with your picture slide show.

Unfortunately, it is not bright enough to use in any but the darkest rooms. If you intend to use this on the road where you might not get a completely dark room, or you need to use it along with written materials, then this projector is not for you.

Had the PK201 for about 3 weeks now. 4 1/2 stars. The brightness has much improved. I love that I can now connect just about anything to the PK201. Hopefully the rest of the cables/adapter will be available soon. Battery life is poor, at about an hour. But I mostly keep this plugged in all the time. I wish the screen was just a little bit bigger. 70" easy with good clarity. The focus wheel is much better, not loose like previous models. Great for travel and hotel rooms. Even with some light ambient lighting you can see the picture fine. Best with complete darkness.

**** Update **** After a lot of use I've noticed a few things when compared to other PK models. First the projection screen on the 201 has a smaller footprint on the wall. I'm unable to get the entire screen to focus. Areas remain blurry no matter what. 101 had better focus. Get the PK301, really impressed with that model. Bought one myself.

Read Best Reviews of Optoma PK201, VGA, 20 LED Lumens, Pico Pocket Projector Here

1. VGA output from connection to portable laptop: Adequate due to focusing problems, i.e. unfocused image across the breadth of the projection which comes from a distance of approximately 12' in this case. Furthermore, focusing the image adequately with the focusing wheel is somewhat difficult. However, if the operator fiddles long enough with the focus, one can generally see a clear image over MOST of the projection if the projection is nearly perpendicular to the wall with minimal skew. Although 12' is outside the range suggested by the manufacturer, the Optoma PK201 has focusing problems even at shorter distances, e.g. 9'. The HDMI capability begs a user to connect the PK201 to a computer and project the desktop onto a wall as a replacement for a large screen TV. Currently, the latter process doesn't work well because not all quadrants of the projected image are in focus at the same time. Personally, I'd love to use this capability with my speech recognition system while browsing the InterNet, but a projected desktop consisting of text is very difficult to read. In order to read the fuzzier text, heavy use of the web browser's zoom capability is required which causes other problems. Optoma, you blew it here and I fully expect your next generation of micro projectors to precisely focus all quadrants of the projected image simultaneously. I won't be as forgiving if this problem reoccurs in succeeding generations. No excuses.

2. Thermal: A purchaser wouldn't want a micro projector producing greater heat. Personally, excessive heat might be playing a role in the focusing problems. With the current design, 20 lumens is about maximum for micro projectors using LED DLP (currently) and passive cooling. Employing laser diodes instead of LEDs is an option for micro projectors, but I'm unsure which option has the greatest luminosity per unit of thermal output.

3. Luminosity: The projector is barely acceptable at 20 lumens. Unless one restricts the usage of their micro projector to nighttime hours, don't buy a micro projector with a rated output less than 20 lumens. The projection from the PK201 can be seen in a room with some INDIRECT exterior light so the brightness is acceptable.

4. Battery life: Marginal at best. Buy another battery as a spare. You'll need it.

5. The power switch is too small.

6. One can replace the included conversion software with Handbrake if the user is willing to fiddle with the settings. Personally, I use AVIDemux 2 to convert video for the PK201, but Handbrake will work as well. Thanks to legondaree on the Handbrake forums for these selections for use with Handbrake:

a. Select the "iPhone & iPod Touch" preset.

b. Set output format to "MP4 file"

c. Set Video\Video codec to "H.264(x264)"

d. Set Video\Quality to "Average bitrate(kbps): 1500"

e. Set Advanced\B-Frames to "0"

f. Disable Advanced\CABAC Entropy Coding

g. Set Advanced\Motion Estimation Method to "Uneven Multi_Hexagon"

h. In "Picture Settings", select a maximum width of 720 and height of 480 and set Anamorphic to "None"

Although, I initially thought about returning the PK201 due to the difficulty in focusing and the minimal life of the battery, I've decided to keep it as one can get a readable image across MOST of the screen if the aforementioned precautions are followed and one can always purchase an additional battery. The PK201 is a good micro projector and worth $300, but the difficulty in focusing and the minimal life of the battery detract from its usefulness. Remember, technology will continually advance these micro projectors so one has to weigh various factors before deciding to purchase. Personally, I don't think either the PK201 or PK301 are mature enough yet although they are close. The next generation of these micro projectors will probably see much wider adoption of these devices. I suspect 30+ tested lumens will probably be the minimum output and at least 90 minutes of battery life before these devices see wide acceptance.

In conclusion, the PK201 will work nicely for displaying pictures and video as a slightly out of focus condition won't generally be noticeable in parts of the image. Furthermore, if the PK201 is used primarily in a room with INDIRECT light, e.g. ALL shades pulled during daylight hours, or at night, the brightness of the projected image is adequate. The PK201 can also be used to display text, but slightly out of focus text can be maddening after awhile. Personally, I'm able to use the PK201 to project my desktop while browsing the InterNet with my speech recognition system IF I heavily zoom my web browser to enlarge the text and precisely fiddle with the focus wheel. The latter can be done with some difficulty and the text is largely readable so all isn't lost. I've decided to bump my overall rating from 3 to 4. The PK201 is so close to meeting the requirements for many applications and it's a very good buy if the intended use is primarily for viewing pictures or watching video.

I was so excited when finally my PK201 arrived. I read the manuals before actually used it, charged it, connected to my laptop and watched one 20-min tv series. At the end of the series, I realized that white spots started to appear at the bottom of my screen.

Now these white spots have multiplied and black spots are also appearing and multiplying themselves. All in a span of 1 hour since my first usage!!!

I wouldve loved this projector because it's what I thought it would be, it was bright enough for my room. But a huge turnoff on the white spots. :(

If anyone knows how to remove these, please let me know. I am from Singapore and would be a big hassle to return it and ask for replacement.

Rose Pink Rubberized Snap on Protective Cover Case for HTC Thunderbolt 4G 6400 + Microfiber Pouch B

Rose Pink Rubberized Snap on Protective Cover Case for HTC Thunderbolt 4G 6400 + Microfiber Pouch BagI loved this cover initially, and I would recommend it to to someone looking for a simple and inexpensive phone cover. I just have one warning. I have a white nightstand, and I use my cell phone as an alarm clock. Much to my disappointment, the pink color of the cover rubbed off on to the nightstand. I tried cleaning off the color as best as I could, but it's still there. If it weren't for that, I would have given it 5 stars. I like the cover, but you just have to be careful where you place the phone.

PNY 1 GB microSD Flash Memory Card P-SDU1GB-FS

PNY 1 GB microSD Flash Memory Card P-SDU1GB-FSWow, this was the first time I had ordered one of these things, and I must say that it is very cool. I plugged it into my Samsung A707 phone, and I was able to add audio and transfer my pictures and videos to my CPU, which you can also do through a USB cable, but the best part is now I have tons of space on my phone so that I can use it as an MP3 player, which is great.

I bought 16GB MicroSD card. Product worked for a couple years, then failed. Customer service at PNY required 3 proof of purchase for the warranty and it is only 1-Year Warranty.

MATTE Decal Skin Sticker for Amazon Kindle 3 3G (no keys & for 3rd Generation model) (Matte Finish)

MATTE Decal Skin Sticker for Amazon Kindle 3 3G case cover MAT-kindle3-NOKEY-673I previously had the NOKEY #46 skin, to cover the keys on my second graphite Kindle 3 since the letters faded pretty quickly off of the keyboard of my first one. I didn't want the letters to also fade off of the new one so protecting the keyboard was important to me. I really had no complaints about the old #46 skin which worked perfectly for my intended purpose and was extremely durable, but that skin was rather shiny and I thought I would try the new matte skin, thinking it would mimic the look of the graphite Kindle. I just got my matte skin yesterday. Here are my comments about it:

1) it's not at all the same color as the graphite Kindle the color is pretty ugly kind of a battleship gray;

2) the material is thinner than the shinier skins so it looks and feels significantly cheaper to me;

3) I am going to order another shiny skin to replace it and I can't wait until I get rid of this one and get a different one. I may actually get my old shiny #46 NOKEY skin again, or the #98 for a change.

All in all, I do NOT recommend the matte Kindle #673 graphite skin. Put your money on a shinier skin if you want to jazz up your graphite Kindle 3 or cover the keys to keep them from fading off the keyboard. You will have a more durable product and it will look much better. (Sorry Invisible Defenders I'm just being honest)

I purchased this for my wife. My detail-oriented, skilled-fingered son put it on the Kindle. It has held up great for over a year. I recommend finding someone who is able to use skill and care to apply it on the Kindle. If put on the Kindle with care, it's a great product.

rooCASE Netbook Carrying Bag for Alienware 11.6-Inch M11x Laptop - Deluxe Black / Pink

rooCASE Netbook Carrying Bag for Alienware 11.6-Inch M11x Laptop - Deluxe Black / PinkAbsolutely love it! I received it 2 days after ordering but the wrong color was sent. I called and they sent me the correct one with apologies and a return package for the incorrect item. Very good customer service! Love the product and the company. Fits my Acer Aspire One perfectly and has room for the charger and my kindle and mouse and much more!

Nice product. It gets a little tight in that you have to make sure the laptop is all the way at the bottom in order to zip the case all around, which gets annoying sometimes. Because of that, I avoid putting other stuff in the main compartment besides just my computer. It has other pockets on the outside which are great for putting in your other needed items. I really like the pink that it came in. I lug it around everyday and I'd say it does a decent job of protecting my computer.

Playstation 2 USB Microphone

Playstation 2 USB MicrophoneIf you play Karaoke Revolution or American Idol video games, then this mic is for you! You can say goodbye to all the problems with the headset, especially when more than a couple people are playing. You can just pass the mic instead waiting until every player gets adjusted using the headset mic. Plus, it fits everyone! Some players fit the headset perfectly but the ones who don't suffer. They get the mic right but not the earpiece, or the earpiece right and not the mic. It registers your voice accuately. This handheld is perfect!

I first bought (yes I said `first') this item when I got the set of Karaoke Revolution disk. Boy did we have fun, then, at first it was just a little noise coming from the speakers. Than intermittent shorting out of the sound. Then nothing. This after just a few days.

Must admit Amazon was great in the way they handled the matter, they asked me to return the item, and sure enough shortly after a replacement came Boy did we have fun(of course we handled this new one with baby gloves), Did not help, within two weeks the same thing happened again, dead, kaput.

I had to buy another one (this time one that I saw in a store). So I am now on the third one within weeks. Other wise works pretty good (that is, when and while it works)

First two were very easy to go bad, hope I have better luck third time a round.

Will keep you up dated on how long this one works.

Spare Products (6 Pack) of HP TouchPad Screen Protectors (CLEAR)

Spare Products of HP TouchPad Screen ProtectorsThis screen protector does exactly what it is supposed to do, but I do want to point out that it is a very clear product. I cannot tell the screen protector is on and the cutout is perfect for the HP Touchpad. This screen protector is very smooth with no apparent imperfections in thickness. I have installed it by putting on one corner and slowly dropping the rest of the screen protector on, removing bubbles as I go along. I also wrapped my finger with tape so if there was a dust particle, I would use tape to remove it from the screen or back of the protector and then continue. I have no bubbles on any of my touchpads using this product and I have not had any of the edges buckle up over time (about a month using it so far). Most other products were about 3-4 times as expensive. This is a great product at an outstanding price!
