These look like a dream come true. You can replace a copier, fax machine, scanner, etc. Just connect it to a common printer and you have a budget copier. Surely not good enough for a bank or other high volume application, but fantastic for a small office. Except that these devices don't actually work...ahem....at all. The firmware is so thoroughly hosed that they are door stops *fresh from the box*. Sure, it may work ok for 24 hours, but then it hangs intermittently requiring a reboot. Then it stops copying, saying the printer doesn't exist. Then it hangs sending your PDF scan to your email requiring a reset. Then (and this one is the best) it hangs during a fax with a "printing fax" message on the screen *permanently*. Yes. *permanently*. Restarting the device looks normal until it goes straight back to that screen, forever.Tech support has replaced this device 3 times already, and now it's hung on that screen again. EVEN overwriting the firmware does NOT get these units back in functioning order! You can even hold the "4" button when turning on the unit to clear the fax queue, but Visioneer tech support informed me this doesn't actually clear faxes in the queue. Nothing does according to them.
I've never seen a piece of hardware so thoroughly bug laden as this thing. Visioneer's tech support sounded like there was nothing they could do but send me another one every couple weeks like we both don't have better things to do.
BEWARE! Do not buy one of these. We bought 3 all at the same time.
We're going "Office Space" on the last one with the permanent fax error message.
