Palm 3199WW Cradle Kit for Tungsten E2/T5/TX and LifeDrive
I would suggest this to anyone who plunks down the cash for the Tungsten T5. The cradle is reasonably sturdy/heavy/unlikely to fall over when your PDA is sitting in it and looks reasonably nice on your desk. I also think it is much easier than messing around with the cheap adapter and USB cable which comes in the box.The only thing I don't like about it is the annoying light that is ALWAYS on! If you look in the picture, it is the light gray/non-silver part. It catches the corner of my eye and has been surprisingly distracting -so much so that I have had to unplug it. Otherwise, I'd have to say it's great and give it all five stars!
I've used the older Palm cradles, and felt they were much better designed and much more durable. Although attractive and sleek, this cradle appears to have suffered from excessive cost cutting. It's good, but could have been much better.

Own a Palm TX? Avoid this at all costs!As others have noted, and as documented on the Palm support forums, this cradle has a major incompatibility with the Palm TX. It will cause the Palm TX to lockup, requiring a soft reset (using the reset hole on the back). There is unfortunately no solution, and no predicting when the lock will occur. Sometimes, after one HotSync it will lock, sometimes if the computer is placed into sleep and then reawakened, other times just sitting there.
Palm has a patch on their site that supposedly fixes this problem, but it actually makes matters worse with the patch installed, the TX will lock when not even docked. DON'T install the patch!
Interestingly, the problem appears to be a hardware design flaw of the cradle itself. If you plug the TX into the included connector, and NOT the cradle, no problems! I suspect it has something to do with the silly LED light that always stays on perhaps a static discharge problem.

The cradle is a very simple device it merely extends the sync cable to allow the Palm to sit upright and be viewable next to your computer monitor. That's nice. The trouble is that the connection between the palm and the cradle doesn't lock. Also the connection between the sync cable and the cradle doesn't lock either (it's exactly the same connector). Palm designed these connectors to be easy to connect and disconnect which is great when connecting the Palm to the sync cable. The problem is that the connection between the sync cable and the cradle need to be secure and it isn't. When the connection becomes loose you get bad syncs, data corruption, freezes, etc... We've had no end of trouble with these on our network because of this issue. The fix is to unmate and remate the cable connections easy enough, but the periodic problems have led me to ban these cradles from our list of supported gear.Some others have complained about the blue LED light. You need this light to tell you when you've got the Palm properly seated in the cradle otherwise you might not know you've got it down onto the connector far enough. I think of the light as a feature not a problem.
The ultimate solution would be a pair of wire bails on the back of the cradle that you'd use to lock the sync cable on. Too bad they didn't think of that.

Hewlett Packard Jornada 540 Color Pocket PC
This is a follow-up to my report of my Jornada 540 connector damaging both my USB cable mating connector and serial cable mating connector. The socket on the Jornada had a very sharp edge that gouged pins on both cable connectors and made them useless. I have since found that some other Jornada's have had this problem. While HP has no toll free customer or tech support, I was on hold for only 1 minute and on the phone for 15 minutes. I still think that the support should be free for in-warranty products, but the rest of the service was excellent. The customer support person (Bill) was very helpful and gave me options for resolution of the problem (entirely my choice). FedEx picked up the package at my door and delivered the repaired product back to me 4 business days later. The tech (Greg Liston) called me to tell me that my Jornada had been repaired, but that that location did not have replacement USB cables. He offered to send me a USB cradle as a replacement, and I of course agreed. It appears that this is still the HP of old that gave them one of the best reputations in the industry.For my purposes (financial analysis on Excel, tracking expenses on Money, reading books and AvantGo downloads and loading street maps for vacations), this is the best choice of any non-keyboard handheld. The iPAQ is probably better for games because of it's speed, but I do not use it for that. The cover and metal case make the Jornada more rugged and it looks like a professional tool instead of a toy. I would buy it again. The ability to use CF cards without an adaptor is important if you want to load many maps or music. The ability to close the cover and turn off the screen is also a plus to listen to music; just carry the Jornada in your pocket. You probably couldn't go very wrong with the iPAQ, but I know you can't go wrong with the Jornada.

I finally upgraded my Sharp Wizard OZ-9500 organizer,(I know its old!), to a Pocket PC. I shopped and read reviews for months before I bought it... and it's probably the best purchase I've made in a while. Rather than repeat everyone else's comments, I'll ditto them and add the following:-It's not a Palm, it is truly a Pocket PC. -I waited for the iPaq, but didn't like the add-on CF port which added size and $$ to the unit. Casio was too bulky. -HP works flawlessly, Active Sync was easy to install and works by itself. Perfect sync all the time. -Bought a Sandisk 48MB card which is a great option when considering MP3's and Windows Media.
The only negative is finding accessories in the store... You'll find things on the net, but things like leather cases, you really want to touch it in a store and try it out. Hopefully this will improve in the near future.

I got my Jornada and it really blew me away. As an owner of a Palm VII and V, my Jornada really just made them look stupid. It comes with Word, Excel, Money, Outlook...and that's just scratching the surface. It can play MP3s and, with the right software, even movies. Granted its short on memory; I strongly recommend buying more. I bought a 128MB CompactFlash card (maybe an overkill) and it doubles as an awesome MP3 player. I always have it in my pocket, so I just plug in my headphones and I walk around campus with music.I downloaded Microsoft Transcriber (which is free) and I can't say enough about it. 10 times faster and easier than using graffiti, you just write as normal. When you're done it converts your writing to text. It even reads cursive! I have pretty mediocore penmanship and it can read things that even other humans cannot.
It has a built-in microphone and speaker. It comes with PeaceMaker to exchange contacts and business cards with Palms. It has Internet Explorer so it can view regular web pages; not just preformatted AvantGo pages. I like the flat stylus better than the skinny Palm one...its wider, so you can grip it more like a normal pen than a toothpick.
Here are the downsides: like every color screen, its hard to see in daylight, though there are preset brightness settings to help you out a bit. It needs more memory, so get a compactflash card. The serial cable is a bit slow; a USB cradle or cable will save you a LOT of time, especially if you transfer a lot of MP3s or web pages. It WILL crash every once in awhile. Its really not a big deal. All you do is take your stylus and tap the button on the back. 3 seconds later its up and running again.

I finally closed my eBay account because I was so sick of crooks who listed items for 99 cents and then made their money on exorbitant shipping and handling charges. (one guy listed a USB flash drive for 99 cents and wanted EIGHTY-FOUR DOLLARS in shipping/handling)This seller is almost as bad. I added five of these $1.99 SD cards to my cart for a total of $9.95, then cancelled the order because the shipping would have been almost thirty bucks.
Needless to say, this is ridiculous. I can ship five SD cards anywhere in the country for less than ten bucks. Why is Blue Proton charging thirty?
This is just another way for unethical sellers to try to rip people off and make them think they're getting a good deal when they're really not.

Item doesn't include the standard American lifetime warranty that Kingston products usually come with. I can't read the "Taiwanese" that this product ships with...maybe there's a Taiwan warranty. You're better off spending a bit more and receiving an item that's guarranteed for life. I purchased this to scan client records instead of paying for copying since I use electronic databases anyway. I was hoping this would be a time saver. Not at all. First, as stated, it does not come with a micro SD. Since it did not say it was required to operate the device I was okay with this. Well, it needs one to function. That was a trip to Best Buy and $12 extra. Second, the WiFi connect is slow so I had to wait several minutes to ensure my documents scanned correctly. I tried both my cell phone and computer. Using the connector to my laptop was faster. Third, the paper has to be completely flat on a completely flat surface or you get crooked lines and unreadable text. Literally a crumb throws it off. Papers that were folded were very problematic and turned out hard to read. Fourth, I lost a whole bar of battery in under an a half hour just practicing using it. So I can only imagine how many batteries I would need for this.My smartphone works much better; it takes better pictures of documents, the images are readable even if a folded paper, I can crop image easily and I can instantly send them via email. I'm going to continue to use my phone!

This portable scanner has worked great for me. I was able to scan 100 pages from a document and it only took 15 minutes. The clarity is of great quality.With a steady hand and reasonable expectations for a hand held scanner you can expect some reasonably good scans. I usually scan some articles off science magazines for my Evernote library. This scanner works well for that. You can simply hook it up to the USB port of your computer and simply drag and drop the scans into your Evernote notebooks from the microSD folder. However, this scanner has some serious usability flaws! First, the small LCD screen makes it difficult to read the current settings which all appear at the periphery of the screen within the shadow of the bezel. The format button (which erases the microSD memory) is middle and center and too easy to press by mistake! In a few occasions I had to remove the batteries to abort an accidental formatting of my memory card. There is no cancel button. Setting the date is a primitive process that needs to be repeated every time you change the batteries!(I've discovered that you can preserve the time settings if you hookup your scanner to the USB before changing the batteries). And you will change the batteries FREQUENTLY. Even if you don't scan anything but leave the scanner OFF for a few days your will almost certainly need new batteries when you come back to reuse it (and that is with the WI-FI off!)For transferring to the computer the Wi-Fi is functional but impractical. I no longer use it and I always favor the USB cable which is faster and easier to pair with my computer. Instead of the scanner acting as a router I would have liked the Wi-Fi to permit the scanner to connect to my home network and transfer the files automatically to my computer, like the Eye-Fi 4 GB Connect X2 SDHC Class 6 Wireless Flash Memory Card (EYE-FI-4CN-FF). I am an IT Manager and have access to a lot of products but this is by far the best scanning tool ever. I take it with me to meetings, shopping, when i visit relatives etc. I have scanned items in stores such as fabrics, greeting cards, and pictures. This scanner is fast and produces very high quality jpegs and PDFs. It uses 2 AA batteries and a micro sd card. If I could improve this product I would change the battery to a rechargeable lithium battery. I highly recommend this product. It's the gift I'm giving to my nieces in college. Working nicely on my Dell Color laser 3110cn. You need to use it on a printer that has both a parallel port and a USB port which the description does not make clear.Attached the adapter to the parallel port of my printer, and also into the printer's USB port. The adapter has it's own power supply too, which needs to be plugged in it doesn't get power from USB. Added the device like I would any other bluetooth device, however after installation got a message stating installation failed because it could not find a driver for device "UNKNOWNUNKNOWN". I went into device manager, selected the "UNKNOWNUNKNOWN" device, selected update device driver, browse my computer for driver software, let me pick from a list of devices on my computer, then browsed to the printer driver for my printer, and selected it. I had to acknowledge a warning that they didn't recommend installing the driver, but then it completed the install, and I print perfectly. Looking around, it seems like I could have gotten the adapter for around $55 if I had shopped around more, but it's definitely worth it to have a bluetooth color laser printer...

I can not get the laptop/printer to load my printer driver (HP 990cse).
I tried to load the CD.
It would not load because my system is a 64 bil.My entire purpose in getting this was to print from smartphone or tablet over Bluetooth to printer where USB or Wi-Fi didn't work or wasn't available. This device requires special Windows-based drivers to function instead of relying upon Bluetooth as an open standard. Therefore, it may work if you want to print over Bluetooth from a PC (which I did not test). But I definitely doesn't work when attempting to print over Bluetooth from either an Android smartphone or an Android tablet. I tested with three different printers also, using both USB and parallel port connections. No go in any of those scenarios. I didn't test any printing from Apple devices because I don't waste my money on such things.

Wow, you can hook up to the school networks! Wow, you can download stuff whereever you are!Well, guess what... all of these great ideas that pop in your head of what you can do with this card... toss them out the window. The product is so inpractical, that I can honestly say that I've only used it ONCE. Not only do you need to carry around a cat 5 cable around whereever you go, but you also have to lug around that tether thing that's attached to the card. Ugh. It turned my sleek and sexy jornada into a clunker.
I can't actually think of a real-world situation where I would use my jornada instead of a real computer that I had at my disposal (i'm assuming that where there is an ethernet port there are also computers available).
Just maybe, if this were priced around 20-30 bucks, i'd get it, but that probably isn't going to happen anytime in the near future.
As an ending note, I usually never write negative reviews, but this is one of those that I had to write because I didn't want people to get suckered in like I did.

Additionally the top that is the cradle for your device pops out each time you turn the device upside down although it is a rather easy fix with a tube of crazy glue.
If the USB ports are not an absolute necessity, I would recommend the Belkin 3 outlet adapter. It is much more compact device.We now have 7 of these around the house. They converted regular outlets into mini-powerstrips and phone chargers. When friends come by, there's usually a charging station waiting somewhere near them.What makes this better than other similar power stations is that it has the groove in the top. It is a very handy feature that gives your phone/MP3 player a place to sit rather than laying on the floor while charging.

The product in general cwas a pretty good case as far as protection goes. Though, the seller is not very honest when it comes to how it really looked. I was looking forward to a lavender, very great color and it was dark poop purple. Very ugly!! All and all I was disappointed and I order all the time!! The phone case looks good! Not quite purple, more of a magenta/pink color. The front of the case (the part that goes around the screen) was difficult to get on, but once on, it fits nicely.

I'm sorry the person below had a terrible experience with their Axim, but I could not be more pleased. I previously owned a Palm handheld and it sat mostly unused except for reading e-books during long waits. The switch from my bottom-of-the-line Palm to this bottom-of-the-line Dell was like going from a Yugo to a Ferrari for me. I have absolutely no problems with crashes, lost files, or otherwise. I use it constantly to note my appointments and it is so easy to synch with Outlook on my desktop. I love that it easily recognizes "normal" handwriting, unlike my Palm which required special characters, and that it includes Windows Media Player which is also incredibly easy to synch with WMP on my desktop. I have a 1GB memory card just for music, and 250MB card for games. They easily switch out. In a few years when I'm ready to upgrade, it will definitely be another Axim.

I have owned several Axims previously and thought that I would again be pleased with this PDA. The Axim X30 contains all the features I was anticipating and it appears that Dell had improved the unit from it predecessors. The trouble came in trying to get the unit to sync with my PC which is running Windows Vista Home Premium. First, the installation disc does not contain the software that allows you to create the appropriate synchronization links (it is outdated for Vista). You have to go and load Windows Mobile Device Center. After loading the new program I could get the units to acknowledge one another existed but I still could not get the 2 units to transfer data. I found that Dell no longer supports Axim units and Microsoft was no help either. First off, do be aware of the following:(1) The operating system on the Dell Axim X30 is Windows Mobile 2003 SE (Windows Mobile 4, Second Edition). This version of Windows Mobile isn't supported by Microsoft anymore. The current version of Windows Mobile is 6.1.
(2) The Dell Axim has been discontinued by Dell since 2007. You will have trouble getting any support from Dell if you run into any problems.
If you're not yet deterred from getting the Axim, read on.
Over the course of nearly 5 years that I've owned the Axim X30, it has been plagued with problem after problem. Sure, there are many users who are satisfied with it but there are about an equal number us who have been dissatisfied with it as well. I've been through countless hours searching through newsgroups and Googling to seek answers for troubleshooting problems on my Axim. What I've found is that the problems I have with my Axim are not isolated instances that are specific to my Axim:
1) A problem commonly reported is the backup battery going bad or burning out. There is no way to replace it unless you want to venture into cracking the case open and soldering the right kind of battery on.
2) A lot of users, like myself, have the problem with the built-in storage spontaneously disappearing. The PPC doesn't "see" the drive anymore; it's like it doesn't even exist.
3) Activesync frequently fails to sync some task and calendar items.
4) Pathetic battery life. I can squeeze about 2.5 hours from the battery it comes with and that's with Bluetooth ans WiFi turned off and the screem dimmed down. Although there are batteries with higher capacities, these are slightly bulkier and jut out from the back of the unit.
5) The power/data connector completely broke loose.
The Final Straw

The final straw came when the data connector broke completely loose. Enough is enough I decided that I had simply wasted too much time and effort (and money) into trying to fix the problems on my Axim and that it was more trouble than it was worth. As a replacment, I got the HP iPAQ 111. I've had it for a few months and so far, I've been pretty happy with it.

It would seem that Dell has a quality control problem with the Dell Axim. There are probably some good units floating out there, but taking the plunge to get the Axim is akin to playing Russian Roulette. Do you feel lucky?
