ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD MotherboardI used this board in a recent build with an FX-8320, 16gb 1600, gtx 560 and Windows 8. So far the build has been very low drama and everything has worked perfectly. Do make sure to update the bios using the usb flash back feature before you start assembly as my board came with a bios 4 editions old and I bet yours will too (The bios flashback feature is a great selling point by the way).

The first board that I got ran fine, but the sound card was DOA. Amazon easily shipped a new one to me that day, and within 3 days I had my second board. The new one worked beautifully and has been working beautifully ever since. The BIOS is lovely, and the temperatures of the board never exceed 40c. I am very happy with the purchase.

However, the board doesn't recognize Corsair Vengeance Ram as having 1866 as it's default frequency, and it is running it at 1600. When I first installed the board I could manually set the ram to 1866 but it caused instabilities, and after a BIOS update the 1866 option on my ram disappeared, and I can now only go to 2000+. This is probably just the RAM itself, and I am not blaming the board for it. I guess the lesson to be learned is to make sure the RAM is on the list of approved RAM models.

I bought this motherboard because it is ready for 8 core processors out of the box and it works brilliantly

I've used an assortment of brands over the years from msi, asus, gigabyte primarily but usually come back to asus. The only problem is their support, it's overseas and good luck getting help from one of them at times. My pet peeves on this board include NO motherboard speaker for bios posting, not a big deal, but still you'd think spending this kind of money they'd include the 50 cent speaker and didn't come with motherboard screws, again, you'd think for the cost of this board it'd get included. I knew about this prior to purchasing and bought the separate screws & speaker etc so not that big a deal.

The board itself is working with an amd fx8350 no problem, flashed the bios before installing any hard drives and I was good to go. The flash back feature is awesome, plug in the flash drive with the bios file (.cap file named correctly) hold the button a few seconds, vuala, few minutes later it's flashed and good to go. I'm not saying everyone needs to flash the bios, but I needed to for the amd fx8350 because the onboard bios version was 1302 and I upgraded to 1502 for the sake of support.

4 Ram slots, 4 pci express 2.0 slots which support xfire and sli, generous amount of sata ports, everything is labeled and includes multiple internal usb 2/3 hookups for usb in the front or extra plugins in the back. I'm very pleased to get this board, did everything the more expensive sabretooth can do (minus a sata port and the ceramic heat coating) for $20 less. If you're planning to put a good cpu in, don't skimp on your motherboard, get something reliable like this and be happy you did when you go to assemble it.

Also, the UEFI bios is awesome, get to use mouse rather than just keyboard, by default auto sets all timings for memory and properly recognizes everything. There's so many features, the UEFI is like a mini os within the bios!

Finally got this MoBo to work. If you are having issues with your video cards and the Video LED is on... don't trust it. I did a search on the net and its the RAM recommended default configuration. After testing every part and wasting about an hour, I seated the ram in slots 1 and 3 and it worked like a charm. No clue why the memory triggers the LED for the video card.
