It performs extremely well. In a silent room, you will hear a very low sound of fan blowing. When a movie sound is on, you won't notice any sound from the fan. When it is dark outside, the picture is very clear, though I have to say it is my first projector, so have no parameter to compare against. But the clarity is very good to me. It can be hooked with media player, cable receiver, PC through HDMI, RCA cable, VGA cable, S video cable. It has a USB plug for picture viewing. The keystone technology allows some small vertical distortion correction, though very limited (15 degree), but if you project from a distance far enough like 10 feet, that is sufficient. Otherwise, there are many other ways to tilt the projector up or down. Two minor downsides: the button for adjusting vertical distortion is at the bottom, that means you have to lift it to make the adjustment, the screen will move when you adjust. The other is I wish it could adjust horizontal distortion as well. But given the price, it is a terrific deal for basic picture and movie projection.

Update: I saw the new review mentioning about volume control. I was having a hard time too then I contacted the support, here is what I found out: when the screen is on, press the left or right button to in/decrease the volume. and to answer one of the comments, it has an aspect ratio option. It plays 16:9.

**UPDATE** Thanks to the comment from corbra, I now know how to control the volume on my unit (left and right buttons on the remote while the screen is on), so I've changed my review to 5 stars. So the unit has good picture, and acceptable sound once you know how to adjust it. But the placement of the volume control is incredibly non-obvious. Even knowing exactly how to control it now, I went back through the manual and found nothing that mentioned it. Still, I'm rating the product's capabilities, not the user interface. I figure you can learn to use a weird user interface on an otherwise good product, and be happier than if you had a perfectly intuitive user interface on a lousy product.

One other thing though don't lose the remote. There is exactly 1 button (on/off) and one adjustment wheel (keystone correction) on the unit itself. Everything else is on the remote. And the remote takes a specialty battery size 3V CR2025. Fortunately, it's included with the unit, but once it dies, you probably don't have one lying around to replace it. Just FYI.

I've left the original review below:

*********

This might not matter to most of you setting up home theater systems with separate surround sound speakers, but for me, I just wanted a single unit to project movies and sound, which is what I thought I was getting. And while I love the picture quality, and the brightness is really impressive for an LED lamp, my one complaint is that even though it has built-in speakers, they're very quiet and have no volume control. So, you can mute or unmute it through the remote, but that's all. It's weird. Who ever heard of speakers with no volume control?

So, this line from the product features, "... Audio (built-in speakers give a home theater experience anywhere)" is a massive overstatement.

Still, the picture really is bright, sharp, and vividly colored. So, if you've got your own speakers, this is probably a great unit for you, especially for the price.

My expectations for a $200 projector were low, I wanted something that would suffice for the occasional outdoor movie w/ the kids. The unit arrived very quickly after placing the order and I was anxious to test it out.

Pros:

Excellent picture for the price.

Several inputs for audio/video

Lightweight and small

Internal speakers worked well for such a small device

Cons:

Extremely loud fan (ended up being defective)

I contacted the seller to inquire about the fan noise. They were extremely responsive, confirmed the fan was defective and processed a replacement unit. They sent the new unit before they received the original back. That is great customer service. Received the second unit and it fired right up. It was night-and-day with the fan noise. After thorough testing, I found that the internal speakers were not working in this unit. I notified the seller/amazon and returned the second unit and received a full refund. Very quickly. I decided to spend a little more money on a sturdier, well-known brand.

To summarize, if you get a fully working unit, you really get a lot of bang out of your buck. The problem seems to be getting a fully functioning unit. BUT, they do have very good customer service (Retail Ace) so if this is what you have budgeted; it may be worthwhile to try it out, since you are covered by a 30-day guarantee. If you don't have the patience for potential issues, spend a couple more bucks on a more known brand.

Want FAVI Entertainment RioHD-LED-3 Home Theater LED Projector (Black) Discount?

I am an artist and I use a projector to enlarge my sketches so that i can transfer and trace them onto a large canvas without losing any of my detail. I used to use an old school overhead projector where I had to use transparencies to project the image and i couldn't get the size right or clear enough to trace, it was such a hassle. I love this projector, my images are clear and there are many sources i can use to display my images, I have not used this for video yet so I don't know how well the sound quality is yet. I wasn't expecting too much, but I totally think it's worth the price.

I really wanted to give this 2 stars, but I couldn't bring myself to do it.

The projector arrived, and I was so excited to use it. The price was certainly a selling point. I wanted to watch a movie on a projection screen outdoors, so I waited until it was pitch black and powered up the machine. What happened next requires bullet points;

1. The remote didn't work.

2. From a distance about 12ft away, the projector threw a dull lifeless image onto the projector.

3. I was worried that it wasn't going to be bright enough, but that wasn't the problem. The lens is AWFUL. The top 1/3rd of the screen was so out of focus, that it made watching the movie almost unbearable. I understand that I paid very little for the projector, but I was at the very least expecting a useable image.

My advice to anyone wanting to buy this would be that if you're projecting in a bedroom, over a short distance, and are already partially blind, then it is probably a good deal. Anyone else... spend a little bit extra for a projector with better reviews and you won't be disappointed.
