Original Review:
I had high hopes for this charger but my current unit unfortunately is just not living up to it's billing. First thing I notice is that it takes a LONG time to charge the charger. It will make it to 3 lights (est. 75%) within 2 hours but to get the last bit takes at least another 2 hours. Also, once that 4th light comes on it is not fully charged (at least my unit). If you disconnect after the 4th light comes on and then you test it pushing the button only 3 lights will illuminate. Charge it for another hour and then all 4 will stay on.
As for charging your phone, I have only been able to get about 1.5 charges even with the phone off. Starting at 30% then turning the off it takes about 2.5 hrs to get to 100%. I then used the phone till about 30%, then hooked up the charger again. It would only make it to 80-90% on the 2nd charge before going dead.
Finally, if you charge while you are using the phone it is very very slow, taking anywhere from 4-6 hrs to charge.
NOTE!! I contacted the company and they are going to ship out a new unit so I can see if it performs better. You can be sure I will update this review once I can test the new unit. They were very quick to respond to my e-mails and they did not expect me to ship this one back before they sent out a new unit. That is convenient!I used this often. It has bailed out my phone on many occasions. When you are stuck in the middle of nowhere this will charge your phone.This company, while offering many products as accessories to many different devices, does advertise and market products online that they know to be incompatible with the devices they claim their products will support. In other words, they are selling cheap, flimsy junk that does not work, in spite of the fact that some of their other products do work.
The kicker is that they are aware of these failings in their product mix, yet do not take action to rectify their web marketing or to satisfy customers. In other words, they are ripping some people off and not addressing the problem. This is considered theft by most law enforcement agencies.
My case was a battery extender pack. Gomadic was fully aware of their product's incompatibility with my device, yet continued to market and sell battery extender packs for the device on their website.
While I did get an email customer support response, the nameless individual did not have correct information regarding my order, indicated in writing that Gomadic was aware of their mistake, and promised to refund my money. No refund has been sent as of this writing, and quite honestly, I do not expect one.
My experience with Gomadic is terrible. They seem to be a shady operation that has little regard for overall customer satisfaction. Upon close scrutiny of their website, you can find spelling errors, incorrect info, and a slick, surreal, double-speak techno-babble copy style that equates to less-than-truthful advertising. While the $24.25 I lost on this deal is not a huge amount of money, the trust lost and market damage is considerable.
Honestly, I was surprised to find these guys on Amazon.

Although the size and shape of these batteries appears to be identical to the original batteries, there is some subtle difference with them I believe the 3 contact points are recessed *very* slightly more in the replacements. When I put them in my charger, they would not make contact without me pushing them in further. So, I added 3 pieces of scotch tape to the rear of the battery (the side facing out from the charger), and that was enough for the contacts to reach. No problems charging now, and the charge is holding quite well now running several days on one battery, rather than 2-3 hours with my originals.

First off, i have never written a review before but it erked me that i bought a product expecting to work with out having to MuyGuver the damn thing. I bought these bateries to replace my old ones for my G7 mouse. I charged them and then tried to use one and it powers the mouse for a split second, and then goes dead. I know it turns on because the power button turns green for a split second. Confused about why this was happenening i decided to test the batteries with my meter. when charged it should have about 4 point something volts in it. The batteries were good. I had no idea what was wrong with them. After comparing the old ones to the replacements i noticed that the replacements had slightly deeper recessed contact points then the original. I had to put tape on the back of the battery to make the mouse work. I sent a complaint to the company but its to much trouble to return them plus the batteries were cheap and now i know why. I must admit one thing i figured out that the battery wasn't getting a good contact point due to the examination of them ( I pushed the battery in as far as i can and when i let go it turned off) but ranger1 gave me the idea of putting tape on the back of them to make them work. So far so good. I got it for my MX Revolution, and it was a direct drop in replacement. Very easy. As I've read, though, you'll have to be careful of the little white connector, it is definitely fragile.In the past I used the mouse for a lot of online/offline gaming, but not so much any more. So, it doesn't quite get the workout it used to. We'll see what happens down the road.
I am satisfied with its performance thus far, though.

The first Palm I purchased was an m105 last summer. I immediately purchased a Palm folding keyboard for m100 series PDAs. Now, a bit less than a year later, I've purchased an m130 and Palm m130-compatible keyboard. I have quite a bit to say about the folding keyboards Palm sells.1. Price: The keyboard can be pricey (current retail price is three-quarters of the current retail price of an m105), but, if you're a student or find yourself in situations requiring you to take extensive notes, it's more than worth shelling out the cash. Amazon sells for a great price, so buy from here as opposed to retail stores.
2. Durability: I am a sophomore in college, and I use my Palm and its keyboard to take notes every single day. My keyboard has never been damaged, although I must note that it could break if you're not careful. Since it is a folding model and not one solid piece of machinery, the keyboard could snap if bent the wrong way. You also need to use this keyboard on a flat surface, as other reviewers have noted. If you don't have a desk nearby, though, just prop the keyboard up on a clipboard, notebook, textbook, etc. It's not that big of a hassle.
3. Ease of use: The biggest complaint about PDAs is the pain of using Graffiti to enter data into your device. Graffiti is indeed tiresome; I don't know how many times my Palm has incorrectly identified letters, requiring me to delete and re-enter. Very time-consuming, especially if you're taking notes during a lecture! Obviously, this keyboard eliminates the problem. I don't know about the average joe, but I type a heck of a lot faster than I can write with Graffiti, or even write with a traditional pen and paper. Taking notes in class is a breeze with the keyboard-no hand cramps, no crossing out errors, no scribbling in the margins because your teacher forgot to mention something earlier... It's great.
4. Quick copies: As others have mentioned, after you take notes using the keyboard, simply HotSync your data with your PC and print. Eaaaaaasy and fast. When friends at school are sick and miss class, they don't have to copy notes from others by hand-I just print them off a copy of mine.
5. Portability: This keyboard is very, very portable and surprisingly compact. The keyboard is broken into four parts, loosely connected. Just slide the clasp to pop open the keyboard, unfold, slide the outside two pieces along the connecting tracks until they lock with the inside two, and stick your PDA in the cradle. Ok, maybe it sounds complicated without the keyboard in front of you, but it's incredibly easy. When the keyboard is folded and closed, it's just a bit bigger than the PDA itself. Truly awesome.
6. Coolness: Finally, I have to mention the "cool" factor. I must say I enjoy the stares I get from classmates the first time I whip out this gizmo. It's a great way to break the ice with new people, and it makes you seem cutting-edge when everyone else takes out a pen and paper for lectures.
I give this product 4 stars out of 5 because of its price and the potential for breaking. I do point out once more, however, that Amazon has a great price for this keyboard. Also, I do acknowledge that there might not be an affordable way to make a sturdier folding keyboard. I would suggest to Palm that they include some sort of small, sliding plastic pieces on the underside of the folding pieces to perhaps provide some sort of braces so the keyboard couldn't bend the wrong way. Other than these minor flaws, this is a solid investment. Parents, get your kids this great tool.
1) Data Input -Here's the obvious. The Palm keyboard is usable for inputting data into all of the major Palm applications; calendar, address book, memo, to-do list and e-mail. Typing is always faster -and more accurate. (No surprises here.)
2) Word Processing and Printing -This one isn't so obvious. If you add Docs to Go (from Dataviz) on to your Palm, this will enable you to modify and compose new MS Word documents directly on your PDA. If you also add either BtPrint or IRPrint (from ISComplete.com), you can then print these documents to any number of Bluetooth or infrared capable printers (such as HP's 995 for Bluetooth, or HP's 350, 990, 995, or 1315 printers for IR). Syncing with your PC becomes less necessary. And why lug around a heavy laptop to word process when the Palm and Palm keyboard are as easy to carry as two small paperback novels?
3) Address Book -Here's a fun one. Open the address book and type in the first 3-5 letters of the name you're seeking and hit "enter." And, voila! You're there! I use the Palm keyboard when I have a lengthy list of people to call. (Scrolling with the stylus is, by comparison, very slow -and for the birds!)
4) E-mails and Voice Mails -Here's another less obvious one (but a biggie!). I use my Palm keyboard to write down information -and action steps -while reading or listening to e-mails and voice-mails, respectively. Then I delete them (or never look at them again). Why print out, file, shuffle and re-read or re-listen to e-mails and voice mails? This is so time consuming. With the Palm keyboard, I can record more info than on a note pad, and I can put my next steps directly into my to-do list so I won't forget. (To make this even easier, I always listen to voice mail using a speakerphone -my company's at work, and my Siemens 4200 2.4 ghz at home. All of the Siemens 4200 series phones have a speakerphone built into both the base and remote units. Very handy.)
5) Taking Notes in Meetings -This is another biggie! Why use paper and pen -when typing into one's Palm is so much faster? The data also becomes much more usable. After the meeting, I can print out a hard copy if I'd like to file the notes or distribute them phsycially. I can also upload them to my PC (normally as a MS Word document) if I want to file or disseminate them electronically. If you're worried about the "geek factor" of taking the keyboard to meetings -there isn't one! The Palm keyboard is an engineering marvel. I get only "oohs" and "aahs" when I unfurl it. (Taking a laptop to a meeting -now, that's geeky!) Other's are even more impressed when I arrive -without any paper!
In terms of computer power, the Palm is really a mini-PC -but hardly anyone uses it as such! The slow speed of data input (with a stylus), I believe, is a major factor. With this remarkably compact keyboard, the Palm can become a major productivity-enhancing tool. See how much faster you can go! I highly recommend it!

Ok, i lvoe this thing. I can type 80 wps and can tke notes maybe around 40 wps with a pen or pencil. I always hate sitting at a lecture and missing stuff cause I can't write it down fast enough. This thing solves my problem. I type the stuff, and cna READ IT! When I write notes really fast they are illegiable, this thing solves all of my problems!It is light, small, and very efficiant. You'll love it.I was considering buying a laptop, but hated the weight and the thought of protecting it from theft. I take this to meetings/seminars/mountains and write there. I waited for several months before I finally purchased this keyboard. First, I tried to save money with the attachable thumb keypad for the i705. This turned out to be quite a waste of money compared to the benefits of the full-size Portable Keyboard. I used to slowly enter one letter at a time with the stylus, then with the thumb keypad. Now, I am surprised at how fast I am typing with the Palm Keyboard. Not only is it fast and easy to set up, but it is also VERY high quality. I actually like it as much or better than my home computer keyboard.If you regularly type large amounts of text into your Palm, then you should definitely save yourself a headache and buy this keyboard. There's not much to review on a case like this. It's purpose in life is to be a case.It fits perfectly with the new MacBook Airs. Closes shut with magnetic button things like on purses. It's not too bulky but padded fairly well. I wouldn't be worried with it in my backpack pressed against some textbooks. The open slots is a nice design, i have yet to implement its use.

Hitachi 4gb Digital Microdrive High Speed Memory Card
After 40,000 shots, 2 cameras, 1.5 years and many drops, this chip still performs perfectly. I've used it heavily and aggressively and have had a great experience at a great price. Its almost as fast in write speeds but slower in read speeds during computer upload. There are some myths about the chip that its slow and fragile, which I'll explain below is just totally wrong.Speed:
On my old Canon 20D, I got its full claimed buffer in RAW and JPEG. On my newer Canon 5D (12.8 megapixel), I get 17 instead of the 19 claimed RAW pictures during continuous shooting, and I pretty much can't run out the JPEG (well over 50). I've used the Sandisk II, and after some testing, I found that the write speed was almost the same, but the read speed is about 1/3 slower when loading onto the computer. Not a big deal, since the write speed is a bigger priority while shooting. Yesterday, I loaded the whole 4gb chip into Apple Aperture in 14 minutes.
Space:
On the 20D or 30D, you'll get almost 500 in RAW, but on my 5D, I get under 280, so I'm now shopping around for a 8gb chip. You might try the 6gb rather than the 4gb since its getting cheaper.
The "Fragile" Myth:
People always say that the microdrive is more "fragile" than the compact flash, which I can say with absolute certainty is B.S. Most people who criticize the microdrive have never used it or known anyone who used it last time I checked, judging without knowing is called ignorance, no offense.
Anyway, I shoot my college football team, for the college newspaper, and frequently I do landscape and wildlife photography, so I'm frequently taking the chip in and out of my camera and dropping it on occasion. I've have used the camera at 20 degrees, in the hot and humid Florida sun, and have had a light sunshower, but yet the chip keeps going after 1.5 years.
Also:
All microdrives are made by Hitachi, even from Sony. Hitachi bought the division from IBM a few years back, and Hitachi will sell under other names for more market share. Don't waste your money on stupid brand image, just buy the one you find cheaper, which is probably the Hitachi.
Many people say, this chip doesn't work with this camera, especially on older reviews. If the firmware on your camera is old, it may not support any large chip, so update your camera first.
My drive needed formatting. I read somewhere that its better to do it attached directly to the computer. So, I plugged the drive in a memory adapter plugged into a USB port of my computer. Worked like a charm.

I bought two of these 4 GB drives from different vendors and about a year apart, yet I have had the same problem with both of them. At just over 1 gig of photos it starts giving me 'corrupt image' notices, and I have gotten to where I can tell when it's going to happen, because when it does, the camera's display stays on too long after I have taken a shot and then all of my manual settings are reset. I am trying to find research on why it does this, because the reason I bought 4 gigs was so that I did not have to worry about backups while traveling. Now I have to take my laptop or a secondary backup device with me on long trips, which can be cumbersome when travelling internationally, because when these errors begin to happen I have to backup the drive immediately and re-format the card or I can't even continue taking photographs. 4gb microdrive, batteries all charged up on my Canon EOS 20D. Excited to use the camera at my nephew's graduation. Brother, wanted copies of the pics that I had taken. Much to MY DISAPOINTMENT, went to download the images to my computer, and there's NADA, nothing. I've use a dozen different programs to 'recover' loss data/images, but nothing. Its too bad that the GOOD VENDORS, likethe folks at BoxWave who sell the Cleartouch Screen Protector had to take flak from me when I tried, in vail, to get magellan to solve my issues, and the one time Amazon kind of let me down also. I wrote a negative review against "Magellan Maestro 4250: without noting it was the ClearTouch Crystal I stumbled on. Some how it appeared I was negative on BoxWave. BoxWave, perhaps, would be better served if they promoted their fine products name BEFORE connecting it to Magellan or anyother GPS mfg co.
I communicated to and fro with BoxWaves very "on the ball" customer service rep and she worked WITH me to clear up the confusion. magellan could learn a lot about customer service from BoxWave, in my opinion...meanwhile, I would suggest that the heirs of Ferdinand to seriously consider redress against whomever has besmercted the navigation skills of their famous ancestor!.

SMK-Link Wireless Ultra-mini Touchpad Keyboard (VP6364)
First we had a full sized bluetooth keyboard and mouse combo for our HTPC, but that was just too unwieldy and bulky (this is in our closet now). Then we had a "gyro" mouse controller similar to this, but returned that since the mouse was really awkward to use and inconsistent. We got this instead and have stuck with it for almost a year, so that's why I doubled the stars given.I can't recommend it to anyone. We don't sit that far away from the HTPC; maybe 12-14 feet. Even if I stand up and walk close to the receiver I might have to press buttons repeatedly to get them to work. Maybe 20% of the times we try to use it the connection will be stable and it'll work like a dream. The rest of the time you have to press 1 button, check to see if it registered which could take up to a second, then repeat the press, or press the next key. We mostly resort to using our XBox (as a media extender) instead and try to avoid typing things into this PC.
This market is still wide open as far as I'm concerned. Maybe that Lenovo thing will be the next try, but I'm very hesitant to drop another $60 on this HTPC controller experiment.
For reference, I'm using it with a Windows 7 machine that has a 1st gen core I5 and 8GB of RAM. The machine runs like a dream except for our wireless keyboards so far.
What does this have to do with the Wireless Ultra-Mini? In a word, everything. When I am sitting at the console, or getting ready to record a track, I can use the Wireless Ultra-Mini (WUM) to key in a track. I don't have to race across the room and pick up my instrument. If I want to stop and do a retake, just hit the mini for complete control. I can create new tracks, redo old ones, everything a full blown keyboard can do and from across the room. The WUM is small enough to sit on the side of a music stand. Since I am viewing the recording controls on a 46 inch big screen as my PC monitor, across the room computing is a sweet option.
Also when I am in bed and want to watch a movie, I have the WUM sitting on a night stand not taking up much space. It's a Windows Media Center controller. I can conveniently surf the web on the big screen also is to pick up the TV remote and choose the PC input. I have HDMI output on the PC, and then from the bed the WUM acts like a full blown keyboard and Windows Media Center controller. If I am importing recorded TV into the bedroom Media Center PC right from the living room WMCPC I can control that from the WUM as well. So all of the options are open.
Ok so that is a few of many options that are opened up and made convenient from the WUM. Now about the function. It sits very comfortably in your hands. It has replaceable batteries and an on-off button on the back so you can preserve battery life when you are not using it. I have another unit like this that only has a built in rechargeable in it that you cannot access and that requires you to constantly recharge it which takes an overnight charging; so you could be stuck without a remote when you need it most. The WUM is only a quick battery change away.
I find the built in touch screen mouse pad to be ergonomically positioned properly and has a very nice feel to it with the mouse behaving just the way you would hope it would. I am not a fan of laptop mouse pads with their touch sensitivity but this one does the job so well you wouldn't mind using it.
Some of the features built in will take some getting used to, but I find the form and function to be very intuitive. Of course, just like anything else there is a tiny learning curve to working any keyboard with lots of remote functions. So the WUM is just the right size for kicking around on top of the covers, and it has a range of 30 feet so that will suit all but the largest rooms in range. I love it and for the price I am thinking about getting one for the living room as well. Highly reccommended.

If wanting to use this in place of a larger, wireless keyboard as a "remote control" for your computer, as I do when I stream wideo to my TV, it does just about everything well EXCEPT the touchpad does not have the capability to tap or double-tap to select an entry, such as opening IE. You always have to use one of the "mouse" buttons at the top. Rather than just comfortably resting the devise in the palm of your hand, this makes you have to grasp it with your left hand in order to click the left "mouse button." The ability to select and tap is what touchpads are all about and to not have that capability, again IMO, makes it an imcomplete product design. I tried using it for several weeks with my Android PC-on-a-stick for my 50 inch TV I have setup in my livingroom with a few disappointing performance shortcomings. The problem was the range was not good at all. I had the receiver out in the open but still could only get a couple yards/meters. I found that I had to walk up to the TV to get closer to the receiver.I also found the buttons on the front edge of the keyboard was not a good idea. I often would accidentally click them. Then when I handed it to my non-technical wife she had no clue what the buttons were for as they are not marked.
The other buttons were a good layout but they are kind of too small. When I handed it to my father in-law he could not consistently press the right button ... and it would often register the key press mulllllllltiple times, if you knnnnnow whaaaat III mean :)
I am sorry but I don't recommend this product. But I do give it three stars because it is a good first revision.

If you are looking for a small keyboard / mouse to run your HTPC then this device should work for you. If you need something to not only run your HTPC but use for general web browsing activities this probably is the wrong product.Pros Small, works out of the box with Windows 7, mouse pad is very functional and if you play console video games it will feel very comfortable in your hand.
Cons Limited range and easily blocked by objecs such as your computer case, your leg or your small child. I have the nMediapc HTPC 8000 case (very nice, looks like an old radio) so I had hoped to have the usb receiver in the back of the case. Unfortunately that is not possible as the signal gets completely blocked.
If you plan on surfing the web for long periods of time or general computer usage then this device is not ideal. Due to it's size your hands will start to cramp (say after 35-45 minutes of use). It's also important to note that it is not back lit so if you keep your room dark while watching movies it may be hard to navigate.

Now, onto the REVIEW This case is amazing. Period. The color is rich, the zippers are thick and durable, the case is VERY strong & holds up to drops and kids, and not to mention the inside of the case is simply amazing! It has a stylus/pen holder, pockets for notes or business cards, a large pocket for sliding in papers, a note pad or something else to take notes with, which has proven to be quite handy! It also has a special cover that can be removed and used by itself, or used with the case via the magnetic stand on the back of the case. So, when you have to take the Acer A500 out of the case, it will always have a protective cover on it, which I have found is hard to come by! Most places sell rubber cases that aren't very good. I have yet to find a solo leather cover for the Acer A500 like this one. This inner case surrounds the tablet and is very sturdy. All ports and buttons are accessible, and the rear and front cameras can be used with this cover on it, without obstructing the lenses. The pink inner cover does go over the rear speakers, but it does NOT reduce sound quality, which is important to me. It has small holes on the back of the cover, over the speakers. So it protects very well, but doesn't affect the sound. It can be take out and placed back inside the large zippered case via a big Velcro oval on the right side of the large zippered case. On the back of the removable tablet cover that I spoke about above, it is soft like fleece, so there is no scratching or annoying backing to mess with the feel of the tablet. It does not add bulk to the tablet & I love the option of taking my tab out of the case and a full size cover still being on it, or using it with the case and the stand on the back.
Overall this case has met every single one of my needs! It's pink (and for a 23 year old girly girly, it's heaven!), strong, cute, efficient & well made. This is one tough case, but cute & elegant at the same time. I just LOVE being able to grab my tablet off the counter or dock, slap it into the large zippered case, throw it in my purse and go! And, I have gotten so many questions on this case! When I'm waiting at the doctors office, grocery shopping with my shopping apps, playing Angry Birds on the plane, checking my bank status, sending a e-mail or just shifting it around in my purse to reach something at the bottom, someone ALWAYS ends up seeing it and saying something nice or asking me where I got it. Ladies just love it! And for the men, they make a red version and a black version. It's the same exact product as the one shown here, but in "manly" colors. I even bought another one in black for my husband, since we both have Acer A500's and he LOVES his just as much as I do. He is a Full-Time Trucker & he is always using it on the go. He said the case has come in handy more than once that's for sure! He tends to drop things a lot, and the case still looks great & the tablet has yet to be damaged in any way! All-in-all, we LOVE this case.

Highly recommended if you want ultimate protection, portability and ease of use.I'm new to tablets and I don't know what cases are out there for the Acer Iconia. I only know that I love this one. It has what I wanted, which was a removable sleeve-type protection that I can take out of the zippered case.
The zippered portfolio is excellent protection in real leather (and padded leather, at that) and with thoughtful touches like pockets for cards, memory cards, cleaning cloth, etc.
The double zipper (another thoughtful touch) is heavy duty, and the lining is a soft, velvety fleece.
The workmanship (stitching, zipper, rear stand, details) is flawless. The sleeve fits perfectly with all the cutouts exactly aligned.
The rear stand and velcro backing of the sleeve enable both horizontal and vertical viewing. What I didn't expect and am so happy about is that the velcro used isn't the type to pill easily, which is a complaint I've had about some velcros.
The only drawback that I can see is that it does add thickness to the tablet since they didn't stint on the quality leather (there's also the padding), so it will take twice as much depth in a bag. But since the case exists to protect the baby, I can't complain. And I can see this case protecting for years.
I cannot imagine a better product designed to coddle a baby (your baby device, that is) than this rooCase.I have been scouring places looking for a case for my acer Iconia Tab that also had a stand. HUZZAH! This case does it all! I use my tablet for both pleasure and business so the fact that I can keep business cards and other material with the tab is a super plus. I also love that there is a partially detachable part so I can take the tablet out of the huge zipper part when I need it. Overall it is a great case!

Reading reviews on the Cruz reader from Best Buy and elsewhere I was initially weary. However, I soon realized the majority of bad reviews were due to the over reaching expectation of an iPad clone. That being said, the Cruz is NOT meant to be an iPad or full fledged tablet. It is what it is, a chimera of an eReader and tablet.Once purchased and unpacked I was surprised and elated to see that the battery was >75% charged. This allowed me to assess my new toy right away. Out of the box I was able to flawlessly connect to three WiFi networks, home, work and a coffee shop. I was also able to easily download a free eBook from Borders. As many suggest, I then updated the firmware. Once updated, I began to download, install, and personalize my Cruz.

I wanted an eReader that wasn't tied to a single source for eBooks(after playing with my wifes Sony 505). This works for me. I have downloaded and am reading books from Borders (app included), Barnes & Noble (Nook app) and of course Amazon (Kindle app). THEY WORK GREAT! Yes, the screen seems a little "clunky" at first, but you do get used to it. I played with the iPad foe a while at Best Buy, and the screen seemed TOO sensitive. It's less a matter of pushing hard than being accurate with the touch, a stylus helps, especially with web browsing. All three reader apps are GREAT. (no stylus needed for those) The wireless connected to my home network easily. Firmware update was simple (you need a separated sd card and a pc to download the update to do it yourself) or take it to Borders and they can do it. It only takes few minutes. Battery life can be extended by turning off the wireless or by shutting it down, but is seems to recharge quickly. Coming from the world of the old Rocket EBook, I was looking for a "right" priced replacement that could give me more flexibility than just a reader and not become obsolete. The Cruz Reader does just that. Using the Borders e-reader app is simple and free books abound. Not only are they free, but they look good. I never thought I would start reading the classics like "Treasure Island" but I am. Color is good and diagrams mean more when the author intends for photos to be seen. I haven't been able to figure out how to zoom in on a graphic or photo though within the Borders e-reader app. Battery life is mediocre but given the state of other readers, it's right up there 6 hours in stand-by with the Wi-Fi on, turn off the Wi-Fi and you'll get a standby time of 10-12 hours. I mention stand-by because booting the device from powered off takes about 2 minutes. Ugh, for a reader, you would expect/hope for instant. Wi-Fi Signal is weak as-is from the factory. I found that when I opened the back of the reader there is a mini-PCI WiFi card readily accessible. Further examination showed that there are two ports for antennas to be attached but only one is being used. I purchased these antennas ( Laptop Notebook Wifi Bluetooth WWAN/EVDO/HSDPA Broadband Internal Antenna), separated them, and attached one to the extra port. I then configured the antenna in a large figure-eight pattern inside the back cover taking care to not come too close to the edges or interfere with any cover attachment ports. Used cellophane tape to hold it down and put the cover back on. My WiFi connection quality nearly tripled. The screen uses resistive technology which means you press two membranes togther to register a screen touch. As a reader, this is a good thing. Accidental touches and grabs of the device do not register. All in all, get for the reader qualities, but do not expect to use it like an Apple IPad. Browsing the web, E-mail, and Twitter functionality is acceptable. Seems a bit under powered. I love the 4x3 portrait display format, seems more a like a book than the Cruz Tablet 16x9 landscape which actually has fewer pixels available than this model.Want Velocity Micro Cruz Android Tablet PC, MID and Ebook Reader, Black (R101) Discount?
Color screen tablets should be the thing to give for this holiday season..I don't recommmend this for those that cant do computer things..If your still using floppy disks and windows 98..dont try...Out of the box, it needs to have the software updated..and 3 programs loaded..slideme, alkido and act1 (a market,bookreader and videoplayer).Print the pdf manual...read it.. things are easy to do..its a great machine once you get it updated...Its not as polished as an ipad.buts its small and easier to handle.
Look on ebay, they sell a case with a keyboard for those that dont like the resistaive touch screen.(look under: android tablet keyboard case...i paid 30.00 post paid.
This model comes with a stand..the 299.00 one doesn't..
Video needs to he formated as if this were an ipad.. I use Magic dvd ripper..i set the file output to ipad and the movies play fine..you can also buy them already in ipad format from MOVIEDIR.COM
