I recently bought my first GPS unit, the Tom Tom One, and quickly found out that mounting it on the windshield is illegal in the state of California. So, out goes the suction cup holder, which was flimsy and mounted it too far from my reach anyway.

I tried using velcro, which worked okay, but the GPS unit was wobbly and hard to use. I'd have to take it off, input the location then stick it back on.

The Krusell Carholdic Kit, in addition to the Krusell Phoneholdic Kit, was the perfect solution to mounting the Tom Tom on my dashboard. I can't stress enough how well it works.

The Krusell Carholdic Kit is the mount that goes on the dashboard. It's the female half, whereas the Krusell Phoneholdic Kit is the male half. You stick the Cardholdic mount on your dashboard, which looks like it should be there and has a sturdy feel. You just peel the backing off and stick it on.

The Phoneholdic Kit contains the mount that sticks to the back of the GPS unit. Peel and stick then use either the round Swivel knob or the MiniClip by snapping it in place (both come with the Phoneholdic Kit). I used the MiniClip because it provides the best hold.

You're done!

You've made your Tom Tom into a portable unit that can clip on your belt or onto the Carholdic mount on your dashboard. It looks and works great!

MicroVision SHOWWX+ Laser Pocket Projector

I want to chime in given the overly optimistic reviews listed for this product. We've had the device for a couple of weeks now and I want to point out a few things that haven't been mentioned by other reviewers.

The image quality is good given the size of the device and the brightness set to its highest value is sufficient. The projector suffers from severe pincushion distortions, and there's no way to correct for this via any of the limited menu settings, which is quite surprising. There's also no keystone adjustment, or any other image geometry adjustment for that matter. This includes the size of the image. When other reviewers say that the size can be adjusted, that simply means that you can increase or decrease the distance to the screen to change the image size, since the projection opening angle is fixed. Somewhat annoying, but not a deal breaker.

While we are at missing features, the device doesn't have a threaded hole to attach it to a tripod or any other means of attaching it to anything. This wouldn't be so bad if the device wasn't that lightweight due to the plastic housing (which could be considered a plus, but it feels cheap) and came with a very short and stiff iPod connector cable. The moment you reposition the iPod / iPad, the projector will move; there aren't even rubberized feet underneath the device. Clearly, not too much thought was put into this. According to the Microvision website, the VGA connector comes with a threaded hole for tripod mounting. I would have hoped that there was some sort of mounting plate available as an accessory to mount the actual projector as well. Right now, I'd recommend using a universal iPod / iPhone car mount.

The really bad part is, as somewhat feared, the battery life. Set to the highest brightness (there are 3 brightness settings) and standard color mode, one gets about 60 minutes out of a fully charged battery. That's not enough to watch a full-length movie, obviously, and we are considering returning the device for this reason. Yes, you could plug the device into the wall or buy an extra ($30) battery, but that takes away some of the ultra portability. We'll test it once more on the next lower setting to see if we can make it through a 90 minute movie. If not, the device goes back. The specs claim up to 120 minutes of battery life ... maybe when you display an image of a black panther at night;-)

Update: We tested the battery life on the next lower brightness setting and still only got 60 minutes of continuous play out of a fully charged battery. We'll try to return the product.

One reviewer pointed out that since the device uses lasers to operate instead of an incandescent bulb, he would never ever have to replace a bulb again. Well, true, but lasers do have a MTBF as well, and there's no way to replace them in this unit. I wouldn't count the absence of a replacement option as a plus.

Just our two cents. Think about the money you are about to spend and whether you really need such a portable device. Laser projectors are certainly the future, but maybe there needs to be some more competition to perfect the product.

I received this projector for Christmas and I am utterly blown away. The disclaimer is that I have long been a fan of projectors and we have the excellent Panasonic PT-AE700U, a spectacular home projector which was incredibly well-received when it debuted a few years back.

That said, I did not expect anything too remarkable from something 1/4 the price of my home projector and 1/20th the size... but, boy was I wrong!

A few things about this unit:

First, it's about the size of an iPhone and that includes the battery. This is absolutely incredible and showing it to people, they say: "Where's the rest of it?!"

Second, unlike my home theater projector, this uses laser technology so it is always in perfect focus. Let me repeat that: IT IS ALWAYS IN PERFECT FOCUS. This is mind-numbingly cool and is a game-changer in and of itself! Focus is one of those things that you fiddle with almost every time you start the projector, but here it is always perfect. Amazing!

Next, because of the lasers, there are no bulbs to burn out--an expensive and annoying feature of traditional projectors.

So, in theory, this is an astounding piece of technology, but what about the image quality? Well, I am delighted to report that it is superb! Crisp, clear, with eye-popping colors and very good resolution. It also fortunately looks great with video, with a rapid response that really looks perfect.

What are the negatives?

Well there are two: the first is that it is bright but could be brighter. In a dark room, it looks amazing, even projecting to over 100 inches on the ceiling! But if there is some ambient light, it gets faded fast at larger sizes. That said, keeping a small and concentrated image--say 30 or 40 inches, it looks pretty great and would be a much better way to show photos, videos or slides than on your phone or even iPad.

The second is that the resolution is really good, but not quite as sharp as a home projector. Given the source material (phones and even iPads), however, this works out well.

I am thinking that this is the direction things will go. With low prices like these already, and with increasing brightness each iteration, I am wondering when these will replace LCD and Plasma TVs--I think it really is just a matter of time. For now, this is an incredible unit for anyone who needs to present to small groups on the go: sales folks, executives, and even teachers for smaller groups. For just a few hundred dollars, you are a totally self-contained AV service. This is going to make a very big splash, I think.

Pretty happy with this upgraded version. Using this toy mainly for watching streaming video movies from Netflix. Good for up to 40 in. on the wall in semi-dark env. Linked via s-video from laptop to composite video on the projector. Bought an s-video to rca convertor.

Pros:

-ultra compact

-adjustable image size and color

-always in focus

-no noise

Cons:

-poor for viewing text (almost can not view any words in MS Word doc from VGA docking to laptop)

Looking forward for HD and brighter laser pico projector in the future.

I just purchased a ShowWx+ from Amazon for $199 a spectacular price break, particularly compared to the ShowWx I bought last March from a European retailer for $630. I was excited about the technology and couldn't wait to get my hands on one, so $630 was worth it to me.

I wasn't disaappointed vivid colors, infinite focus, small, lightweight portability the ShowWx is an absolute revolution in display technology. And it never ceases to amaze those I show it to. They cannot believe such a stunning picture can be produced by such a small device. I have literally stopped traffic at night with 30-foot diagonal videos on the side of my house.

So I was more than willing to pay $199 for an "improved" version of the ShowWx. The plus model boasts 15 lumens output (versus 10 lumens for the original Show), and I was anxious to see the difference. So I lined up my Shows side-by-side in a dark room in my basement and hooked them up to iPods containing the same music video. I then tried (and failed, somewhat) to run the videos simultaneously. I made a video of the experiment, but since they won't allow me to post a link to YouTube here, if you wish to see it, just go to YouTube to my channel, "hendersonbay1" and it's the only video on there. It's about 5 minutes.

Quickly, the limitations of both the ShowWx and the Plus model are about the same. They perform best in darkness or very low light, and the battery life is limited to 90 100 minutes not plugged into a wall outlet or USB port. I noticed other reviewers complaining about not being able to display the menus or screens on their iPhones or iPads, but that is because Apple has locked their devices so as to prevent them from using alternate displays. If you "jailbreak" your Apple devices, this limitation goes away. But videos or pictures on Apple devices look great via the Show.

Putting the ShowWx and the ShowWx side by side, I can say that the colors and picture overall from the Plus model are better richer colors and color contrast. What I can't say is DRAMATICALLY better, because the picture on the original ShowWx is so good. But it is an improvement. If you take the time to view the video I posted, you should understand that the difference on the video was somewhat more dramatic than the difference I noticed in person. I'm sure there's a technical reason for this, but I don't know what it is.

In any case, the pictures from both Shows were spectacular. I had the projectors 63 inches from the wall, which translates into an over five foot diagonal projection. The colors were rich and bright, the focus was flawless, and the "wow factor" was doubled with two 63-inch projections filling the wall.

I could go on for many more paragraphs about all the potentially fun and productive things you could do with a Show, but I'd start sounding like a salesman for Microvision (which I'm not). I think this technology is amazing and, if you've done your research and understand the limitations, you will not be disappointed in either the Show Wx or ShowWx+. It'll knock your socks off.

After reading all the reviews and compared to other brands, I ordered this projector with high expectation. After tried it, I decided to return it. Thank god I bought it from Amazon where the return policy is straight forward and painless. Below is what I experienced:

1. I understand this is a tiny projector with dim light but I was not expecting it to be useless in a normally lighted office. I tried to project in a room with blinds closes, one ceiling light and projecting it to a white wall about 4 feet away; can't see anything. I had to get closer than 2 feet to get a decent image.

2. The battery life is short, but I can connect the power cord so I don't rely on battery. The device can be powered by USB so you can connect it to a laptop USB port to power it while you're using the projector.

3. I purchased the VGA adapter. It works with my Sony and Alienware laptops. However I had to reduce the resolution to 800x600. It does not support anything higher. The problem with my Sony is my Sony is a mini P model with 16:9 screens. When I changed it to 800x600 made the Sony screen is tiny and difficult to operate, at the same time the projection turned to 16:9 ratio, so the image looks bad.

3. I connected it to an iPhone 4, iPod video and movie play well, but it does not project iPhone photos or Safari. I used an Altec Lansing iM-237 speaker, which works great with the iPhone and projector.

I purchased this projector as a carry in bag at all-time device for both personal entertainment and do quick demo of applications and internet to customers via iPhone/iPad/Laptop. I can deal with the dim light and the 800x600 resolution, but I was disappointed that I can't display applications, games or Safari from iPhone. I have not tried iPad yet and will test it tomorrow. I will also try the composite video cable to see if I can display photo and Safari from iPhone.

This is a beautiful piece of hardware and does one thing, play iTunes video from iPod/iPhone/iPad. The reason why it does not display Safari or games from iPhone 4 may be an Apple software issue, but unfortunately I was hoping for more than playing iPod video.

I am returning this and will try an Optoma PK301.

None of the ones at B&N.com do all of that. They do one or the other. If it zips and protects, it is a pocket and you have to take the NOOK out completely. If it holds it at the corners, then it doesn't zip/protect.

My only complaint is with the product description. It says that the handles are magnetic, but they are not. They are held by snaps. It doesn't matter to me if they use snaps or magnets, but the description should be accurate.

The case sides are very thin, which was fine. But the fit is SO tight around the edges of my Nook that it was hard to fit it into the corner straps, and makes it hard to zip as well.

I ordered these because they were described as OEM. The photo pictured 2 earhooks with OEM Hologram stickers attached. I recieved 2 earhooks with no OEM Hologram stickers. And when compared to the OEM earhooks that came with the Bluetooth headset, it is clear these are not OEM.

These fit my Bluetooth headset and are working OK. My issue is I paid extra for what I thought was OEM – I wanted OEM – and got aftermarket copies. I could have ordered the same type of aftermarket earhooks from another vendor, paid half the price and received twice as many earhooks.

I bought this body suit in red and blue. Nice case, fits perfectly, the openings for speakers/connections/etc. all just fine, bit of a lip to give some protection if Fire is laid face-down, nothing about the case interferes with anything. Adds a nice zip of color around the edge, just enough to be good-looking, not enough to be obtrusive.

Just like everybody else considering this particular kind of case I wanted something that would protect my Kindle Fire without getting in the way. This case does that job quite well.

The case fits snugly on the Fire adding a little bit of thickness, but just enough not to be annoying. I bet that Kindle with this "skin" on it still will fit in most of sleeves and pouches designed for that device. The "skin" is made of a plastic material that has rubbery, elastic quality to it. It's not as elastic as rubber would be but it's not rigid either. To give you an idea let me say that it is softer and more elastic then the "rubbery" back of Kindle Fire. That is a bit of disadvantage in my opinion. While the "skin" is easy to install and wraps around the device in tight fit, it is very easy to pull on its edge with two fingers and give you a scare that it's about to come off. It won't and instead it will promptly snap back on the Kindle as soon as you let go but it makes me wonder how many accidental stretches of that kind it can take before it looses its "memory" and starts hanging like a loose shirt? It is of course very easy to avoid pulling it but if you keep your Kindle in a protective sleeve you should get into a habit of grabbing it on the bezel to take it out.

The openings cut out in the "skin" for the speakers, on/off button, headphones and the power cord are well aligned. Well, maybe those for the speakers could be done with slightly better accuracy but they are still good as they are. And yes, the on/off button does not stick out (!) no more turning off the Kindle by accident. Before I used the "skin" it was becoming a major annoyance.

The back of the "skin" is made of a harder plastic material adding more protection. It relieves you from worry that you can scratch, stab, moisten or damage in other ways your Kindle Fire while putting it aside. The "skin" is tough enough to take the brunt (if not all) of damage on itself. It won't protect the screen of course but that's the choice you've already made if you are considering buying this.

The sides of the "skin" are grooved making it easier to hold. The "skin" is not a piece of art as you can clearly see from the pictures but it blends with the Kindle very well to become almost unnoticeable. Just like I wanted. I'm looking at the back of this cover and seeing the smudges and microscopic scratches I am thanking myself for buying it. Life happens. For $5.95 it's a winner (I see that the price has gone up since then).

Every once in a while you find a product that really makes your life easier. I travel all the time and I used to carry all sorts of power adapters. I tried the Targus AC/DC adapter but it was far too heavy, did not work with my Dell work computer, and did not have all the tips I needed. I finally found this product. I power my Dell laptop, Toshiba laptop, blackberry, cell phone, dvd player, and psp now with this one device (not at the same time of course), on plane, from the wall, or in the car. Two of my co-workers have purchased this since they saw mine. My only wish is that they would make an elbow tip adapter to make the tips take a right angle leaving the device being powered. I don't mind the short wall cable because it saves weight, but yes it does make it hang out of the wall plug sometimes.

This adapter is amazingly slim, which is perfect for my laptop case! There are a variety of tips included, and best of all, if the package is missing a tip for your machine, you are entitled to one free tip from Kensington! I have a Dell XPS m1210 which requires an N19 tip which wasn't included, so I gave them a call and a week later, got it free in the mail. Can't ask for more.

This is a thin (relatively large foot print) attractive unit which can be used to power many different devices via the "smart-tip" adapter. The unit runs quite warm (hot) from the AC supply, but seems to me, to run much cooler from a DC supply (which is my primary mode). As stated in other reviews, the AC cord is so short that I use an extension cord rather than let it hange from the wall outlet as suggested by Kensington. The unit powers my Toshiba with no problem (just give the unit plenty of space to radiate the heat). The only down side for me is that a "smart-tip" is not available for my digital camera (would have been a nice added use). Kensington web site indicates smart-tip adapters available for Sony digital cameras only. I am happy with this product. Check the Kensington web site for smart-tip availability for all your current devices.

I also bought this for my Dell M1210, just before a trip from the US to Japan. It powers and charges my laptop just fine, plus it is lighter and thinner than the Dell power brick. It doesn't get noticeably hot, either even after many straight hours of operation on the plane. The smarttips are a bit expensive, but they work just fine and are worth the investment.

Aside from the price, the one negative point is the short plug connecting the adapter to the wall outlet, which leaves the adapter dangling in most cases. other than that, however, this is a great travel adapter.

Belkin G700 PDA Keyboard for Sony Clie T-series Handhelds - Black

The basic design of the G700 is in fact ingenious. When I show the device to onlookers, they gasp at the expansion mechanism of the actual keys. Concession: It is damn cool. Sadly, I must confirm previously addressed grievances, primarily with the space bar, which is every bit as flakey as described. You think there's a trick to making it work better, but there isn't. It's just flakey, which is surprising. The expansion is so exactingly well done, you can hardly believe they would goof such an obvious quibble. One thing I will add in contrast to earlier reports is that it is possible to switch the location of the shift and up arrow keys. True, this is not entirely intuitive, and less than gracefull in usage, it is there.

For those of us with Clies, the Stowaway is the way to go, at least until there's a Stowaway XT ported to our platform. It's a shame, because the Belkin really has a lot going for it.

I just got my Belkin G700 Sony CLIE T series Keyboard today. I bought it through ebay and paid less than 40 dollars, which included shipping and insurance. I have to say, after initial use on my T615C (OS 4.1)...it works wonders! I really like the structure of the case and how it holds the PDA very securely. I am still amazed by the mechanism it uses for opening/closing of the keyboard. It does this very smoothly, but I am a bit worried that it may fail because it feels rather flimsy...but from what I've heard it's very dependable.

I heard that there were numerous driver issues with the keyboard but after loading the most recent (June, 2003) drivers from the Belkin website I had very litle problems. The driver failure after PDA sleeps has also been fixed. On almost all my word processing programs, I am able to type VERY fast and have an instantaneous response on the screen. The programs I was successful in typing were: All of Sony's built in planning functions (Memo, Address, etc.), SheetToGo (like Excel), and BugMe.

The feedback on the keyboard feels just like a full size laptop keyboard. The only problem is that the right shift key feels just a tiny bit too far to the right and the spacebar must be hit close to the center in order for it to work. However, this keyboard has many advantages compared to other keyboards like the Targus Stowaway Ultra-thin. The Ultra-Thin lacks a whole row of numbers at the top while the Belkin has a seperate one. This allows the keyboard to have more functions and type much more naturally. The adapter port for charging the PDA is a bit difficult to insert, but again that's a minor issue. Other keyboards I have seen also have been too small or the keys too tiny, or the feedback too low. Belkin seems to have got it just right.

The only software that I have problems with is WordToGo from the DocumentsToGo suite. It seems to crash (Fatal Exception) with keyboard use no matter what I've tried, whether it's editing an old document or creating a new one. The menu function on the keyboard also only works to bring down the menu but doesn't allow me to use the arrows on the keyboard to select an option. However, after talking to both the DocumentsToGo (DTG) and Belkin technical support, I have pretty much concluded that Palm OS 4.1 is the culprit. It looks as though the all problems have been fixed in OS 5.0 and the best thing to do is upgrade DTG to the most recent version (6.0). I'm still hoping I can somehow fix the WordToGo crash issue by getting better keyboard support for my 4.0 version of DTG. I found a relatively easy way to compensate for this though...I just use "Memo" to type everything I need and I just copy and paste it into WordToGo! *I heard WordSmith may have better compatibility*

This sure is one cool keyboard and I highly recommend especially at the ridiculous cheap price you can buy it through ebay. It's safe to say that you CAN use this like a laptop. I just wish I had a newer model of the CLIE, since it looks as though those models have no problems with WordToGo. :)

Atari Retro (P10934U)

If you're 30+ years old, you may have fond memories of playing with the Atari 2600 -the home video game system that was popular long before Nintendo, Sega, or even Microsoft were household words. This card takes seven of the games from that old system and puts them...well...in the Palm of your hand. This card is also supposed to work with Pocket PC and certain cell phones, but I've only played it on a Palm Zire 71.

The most important thing to note is what games are included -the "Features" section of the listing on Amazon is incorrect. This card does have Asteroids, Breakout, Centipede, Missile Command, and Pong -but instead of Combat and Tempest you get Adventure and Yar's Revenge. The Editorial Review includes the correct combination of games.

So what are the games like? As nearly as I can tell, they're identical to the old console version. In Adventure (one of my old favorites, and the grandparent of games like Legend of Zelda), the screen flickers if you have too many objects on the screen at once, just like it did on our television set years ago. Pong is...well...Pong. The games look, feel, and sound exactly like they used to years ago -I'm not certain, but I suspect they're using the exact same code, running under an emulator.

It's important to note, however, that these are clones of the 2600 version of the games -not the arcade versions that were out at the same time. So Centipede is just a square block, not a little mushroom shooter. Missile Command has one missile silo, not three. But unlike in the arcade, in this version of Asteroids you can choose to play with your choice of special options -hypserspace, shields, flip, or nothing. If you're expecting clones of the arcade, you'll be disappointed -the 2600 had nowhere near the power of the arcade games of its day, and that's reflected in what you'll see here.

I do have a few complaints about this implementation. You can only adjust the volume level before you start a game -if you want to change it in the middle, you have to quit your game and start over. There is a pause option (as there was on the 2600 console), but if you end up back at the application launcher, you'll lose your place in whichever game you were playing. Two of the games included -Pong and Breakout -are almost impossible to play with a joystick (which is why the 2600 had paddle controllers for these games -too bad they couldn't have let you use the stylus to simulate the paddle).

Speaking of controllers, there is no configuration option available -your 5-way navigator is your joystick, but I've accidentally pressed it down when I didn't mean to, and fired at a bad time. Your four application buttons are also fire buttons, though they all do the same thing (the 2600 controller was a single joystick with a single button, so this is just fine). Still, I'd love the freedom to remap buttons if I want, if only to prevent a press on the 5-way navigator from firing unexpectedly.

CONCLUSION

If you grew up playing the Atari 2600, then this will be a trip down memory lane. I spent an hour playing Adventure -I just couldn't put it down, despite pitiful graphics and simplistic gameplay. Nostalgia buffs will love this!

But if you're part of the Nintendo generation, or the old 2600 games hold no special memories for you, then you'll probably be disappointed in this release. Look for modern versions of some of these games from iambic and astraware to really take advantage of the horsepower of your modern platform.

PalmOne P10960U Mobility Kit

I purchased this item as a means to charge my Palm while on the road. The old Palm V charger worked wonderfully for this, but unfortunately the Mobility Kit doesn't. The kit consists of a nifty car adapter to USB power converter and a four foot (1.5m) USB Type A to Mini-B cable. Neither the car adapter nor the USB cable connected to a PC provides enough power to charge the Palm appreciably over the length of a normal commute. (under 60 minutes)

The only reason this doesn't get one star is the USB cable remains useful, albeit quite pricey compared to the equivalent product elsewhere.

Basically, this kit comes with two items. a USB cable, and a plug for your car adapter.

I purchased this so I can sync my Tungsten E with my laptop as well as my desktop. I have only used the cable so far, and have not tried the car adapter (dont think i will). The cable also provides a trickel charge if the PDA is off while connected.
