PRO-83 200-Channel Handheld Scanner
This scanner was recently on sale at Radio Shack for $79 dollars, and at that price it is an excellent buy! It uses two AA alkalines, or rechargable Ni-Cd/Ni-MH batteries (not included), or A/C wall current with a 6v adapter and "adaptaplug" (not included). It can also be powered through a vehicle's cigarette lighter with an adapter (again, not included). The rechargables can be charged in the unit by flipping a tiny switch in the battery compartment, but be sure to read the manual with regard to this topic, and under no circumstances should you attempt to charge alkalines. The unit is small, palm-size, with a backlit screen and keypad that turns off automatically after 15 seconds. You get 200 memory channels divided into 10 storage banks, in addition to preprogrammed weather, ham, police, marine and aircraft frequencies held in service banks. The scan function is quick and smooth, and you can scan between frequencies entered manually, as well as the stored memory channels. One interesting feature is the Signal Stalker, which detects and displays the frequency of nearby strong transmissions. It can be set to work in the background, or turned off altogether. Also, with an optional serial port cable and software, you can connect the Pro-83 to your computer and store or transfer data between the radio and the PC. Delay function, lockout, priority channels...they're all there. On the downside, there are no trunking features, and the little BNC antenna that comes with the unit should be replaced with something a bit more powerful. But overall, this is a fine radio that will serve you well up to the 956 MHz limit.

Bought this for my Kindle Fire HD that I just received today. Some pros and cons:PROS
-Fits Kindle Fire HD 7" perfectly, and is easy to remove and install. Clips hold the device firmly in place.
-Adds minimal bulk or weight to the device. There is barely any gap around the Fire, so you're only adding about a millimeter, on all three dimensions, by adding this cover.
-Has an elastic strap to ensure the cover stays closed. This is a nice feature that my old Kindle Keyboard's lighted case had, and I prefer an elastic closure, if possible.
-Great feel, smooth leather feels great in the hand. Inner liner is fuzzy and will protect the screen well. Love that I can get it in red, for the "fire" aspect of the Fire HD's name. :)
-Stands up on its own in landscape mode (though see my concern, below).
CONS
-Case is really stiff for stand-ups; I'm sure this will work itself out, in time, and I rarely use the stand-up feature anyways.
-Major issue with how you orient the Fire HD camera-right or camera-left. Depending on orientation, you'll have partial functionality either way.
ORIENTATION ISSUE
-The issue is that, basically, you have two installation options:
1) Camera-to-the-right: This puts the HDMI/USB on the left, and power/headphone/volume on the bottom. This allows the camera to be "up" when you stand the unit up in the case and allows for the auto-sleep to work. However, it prohibits the Fire HD from charging or displaying on HDMI when the case is closed or deployed in "stand mode," and prohibits use of non-Bluetooth headphones while propped on lap in portrait orientation.
2) Camera-to-the-left: This, I believe, is the desired installation option (and is, based on Amazon's case). However, when standing the case up, it results in the camera being on the bottom, and auto-sleep will not work.
If you look at the Amazon-branded case, it specifically uses the orientation I, personally, prefer Camera-to-the-left. They even have special cutouts for the USB and HDMI on the right. So I believe this is the desired installation method. Yet, in this orientation, the Marware case cannot auto-sleep or stand on its own and have the camera on top.
All in all, I recommend this case for Fire HD 7" users. The price is much more reasonable than the stock Amazon-branded case, which I think is absolutely horrifically priced. I fail to understand how Amazon can, in good conscience, sell a technological marvel that is the Fire HD for an obscenely-low $199, and then charge 25% of the cost for a case! All of their cases are like this, which is ridiculous. Maybe they count on it, and make some of the money up on the case? :)

Updated the above due to comments on how the case does, indeed, sleep the unit if you have it in the "wrong" orientation. Thanks to Leticia for making me double check this! Lowered stars to 4 due to the no-win situation this case presents, though it's still an excellent-feeling case and a good value.
I am delighted with the purchase. The case is well-built, and can be set either horizontally or vertically. There is a black elastic strap that easily stretches over the outside cover (from back to front) to protect the Kindle Fire HD even in a suitcase, backpack, or briefcase. And the case is anti-skid, so that it rests solidly on your table or desk.
And honestly? Although the Kindle Fire HD is a bit heavier with the case, it is far easier to grip safely and comfortably for long periods. That is especially important for me because arthritis in my hands makes gripping uncomfortable after just a few minutes.
The case is well made, it looks beautiful, and I am confident that it will protect my Kindle Fire HD even if I drop it.
All in all, I highly recommend this product, especially at almost half the price of the Amazon cases.

This is a really nice case. I like the fact the the Kindle goes to sleep when the cover is closed. It looks nice too. The one major fault is that there isn't any access for the power cord when the case is closed or in the standing position. You can change the position of your Kindle but it effects the sleep/wake feature when the cover is opened/closed.Overall it's a good case for a reasonable price.I ordered this with my kindle fire so I had a case to put it in right away. Its practical, looks good and easy to use, oh and should be protective! I choose the orange one, looks sharp. The kindle snaps into the case so its not going to slip out, folds to turn into a stand for viewing and reading. I've been looking for a while for an iphone bike mount that fits the handle bar of my bicycle and that tightly holds the iphone. I bought this one and was able to install it without any problem. I have a brand new 38GB iphone and luckily bought a hard case for it. After installing the bike mount I went for my first bike ride to work. The trail is paved all the way and there are minor bumps. When I got to the section where there are slight bumps I notice the vibration on the bike mount and then saw how the iphone went flying and fell on the pavement. Luckily, nothing happened to the phone. I thought that it was not tight enough, tried it again, and it fell again. I tired it once more two days later and it fell again. Don't recommend buying this product based on this very unpleasent experience.

The problem with the first shipment, I believe, was a bad USB cable (not designed for both data transfer and charging). I bought this unit at Target for about $21. I uploaded pictures of my unit to Amazon and it is different look as original picture posted on this site. The unit is light weight and very small. The package said it contains 500 mAh lithium polymer pack inside. I bought this package because I was in the emergency and needed my phone to work for extra 1hr. The package said the unit is pre-charged and ready to use, however I think the unit had about 20% of juice after unpack it. It charged maybe just 2~3% and it was very disappointing.After I return to my home, I charged the unit. It took about 2hrs to fully charge the unit. After that, I charged my phone again and see how much it can charge my unit. My cell phone (AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2) had 64% battery when I started and after I plugged this unit, it charged to 80%. So this unit can add about 15% from fully charged.
It is good buy for insurance purpose such as emergency phone call, however if you are thinking about buying this unit for backup battery, I think this unit is not powerful enough to make your phone alive for smartphone applications.

Got one of these because I use my phone so much on vacation, I figured it would be a good idea...not so much.This thing is AWFUL. First off, it gets WAAAAAAAY hot. On multiple occasions, I got a message on my phone saying the voltage was too high and that the phone would cease charging. And then, the charge that the device provides is minimal at best.
My recommendation: stay away from this thing, and invest in something more reliable, like the PanaTech A it's dookie, but it charges two phones at the same time, and you can get 4 full phone charges from one PanaTech A charge.

Alright, so with the onslaught of IPODs, PSPs, tiny phones, GPS' and all that stuff, I was trying to figure out EXACTLY what I wanted. I wanted something that could play videos, MP3's, cruise the internet, hook a GPS antennae up to, and play games. Eventually I decided on the dell axim x51V. Then Refurbdepot... well.. forget refurbdepot. I wound up with an iPAQ HX2750, which stat-wise, is pretty much the same. It connects to the internet pretty well, but isn't very good for "surfing" I can check my e-mail, and chat on MSN messenger, but the way the internet is, alot of websites don't support the windows mobile 5 browser. I picked up a foldable keyboard for it, and it's great to have around if I want to type something out. The battery is TERRIBLE. It won't stay charged for more then 24 hours even if I don't use it at all. After about 10 minutes of use, I have to reset it completely in order to turn it on. Syncing takes quite a while as well. HOWEVER, with a 2 SD cards, I have one for programs, and the other for songs, and a compact flash card for overflow, and pictures. I play old dos games on it (with pDosbox) I can type with it using a foldable keyboard I picked up. I have a pelican case waterproof case for it with a soft rubber front on it, so it's fine to take camping, even in extremely wet environments (I've used it in the middle of a sandstorm in Kuwait back in 03') I can bluetooth, IR, move SD cards around, and cable sync with almost any electronic device, which is very nice. I can put it in it's cradle, pop on slide show, and watch pictures of my son go by all day at work. It's very usefull, but if your looking for a toy, I don't think this is the device for you. If your a techno-junkie, well... you might like it. I would recommend getting some accessories to make life more enjoyable for you though: 1, holster. It's too big to keep in your pocket, and you can keep extra SD cards and whatnot with you. 2:some form of actual keyboard. There is a popup screen for one, but you can only type at about 15-20 WPM. With a mini-keyboard, you can type 'almost' as fast as you do with a normal one, until you get the hang of it. 3: 2 gig SD, and a 1 or 2 gig compact flash. 4:download pdosbox (it's free) if you like old dos games, like warcraft, Lands of Lore, or lemmings. 5: extra screen protectors.

If you own a HP iPAQ 211 Enterprise, this is a must on your screen. Some reviews were unfavorable because they were first time users of the product, but don't let that detour you from purchasing it. I always purchase sreen protectors, and this one is great, but you must take you time when putting it on your devise. It is clear, as if there was nothing there, you will like this screen protector.
Just to put some of this into perspective. I am a Tech and use the 210 as a quick reference tool and to pull tons of log/error files from the machines I service. I use the hell out of the touch screen transferring files and scrolling across expanded parts views or wiring schematics. In my off time I've used it for everything from an MP3 player to picture viewer. Cheaper film may work ok for most but these cant be beat in my book for there longevity and the sheer amount of protection they do give. As far as putting the screens on theirs not really much difference. Their all a pain and the best way I've found is to wait until my wife takes one of her lava showers and steams up the bathroom. The steam clears the air and makes putting them on much easier.

Good points: Obviously far longer wearing than softer screen protectorsAnnoying points: Harder to install/curl off backing paper, No chance to practice with the first protector and live with the second, Too expensive to replace if you DO get a mar on the surface.
Replaced this brand with a different kind from a 15 pack of softer protectors (i.e., 15 protectors for almost the same price as 1 protector), and the end effect was much the same, as far as bubbles and ease of use were concerned.
BTW, I've also installed a hard protector like this on a cell phone, however the phone did not have a raised case framing the screen so installation was FAR easier even with a stiff protector. Also, on the phone there is no stylus wear that will make me replace the protector.
However, I haven't felt any reluctance to replace the softer kind I now use whenever I feel like it, as opposed to when it would be absolutely necessary.

This thermal printer seemed like the right fit for my point of sale register. However, after hooking everything up and finding out that it only cut the first 5 to 6 receipts; I realize that you get what you pay for. Meaning, for another $100 I could have bought the work horse of this brand. (I historically have paid more than $400 for receipt printers and should have known better.)I have sent this machine back and I am waiting for my refund. I will, of course, buy the next model up and never by the light weight model of any brand from this point on.

Acer Aspire V5-171-9661 11.6-Inch Laptop (Silky Silver)
To start, I own a lot of Acer products. Every year or so, I tend to inch along in my needs and feelings for laptops. Prior to purchasing this, I had an 10" Acer Aspire One netbook which I was thrilled about and a 14" Acer Aspire Timeline. I was hoping that this machine would sort of be the bridge between the things that I really liked about a Netbook (light, good battery life, very portable, and low heat) and the performance of my more beefy laptop (higher resolution, better video performance, etc).I have to say that in many ways this meets my needs and in some others it didn't quite live up to my expectations. To start with, though, I will first say that I am pleased with this notebook, overall. I am not going to blame the product for having Windows 8 which is at times obnoxious and counter-intuitive because the product description clearly says it comes with windows 8. Some people are not going to like it though. I'd suggest you try to navigate around Windows 8 sometime with a mouse in a store if you want a feel for the experience. Everyone's going to differ on whether they think this is one step forward and two back, or the other way around. What I will say is, for what Windows 8 is, this thing flies through it and it displays everything in a slick manner.
This has had no problems running Netflix, not that you would expect it to. It can do all your normal computing, and the easy app stuff they seem to be trying to turn windows into. On top of that, this isn't a great system to play games on, but it can run the games that I have played with respectable stability. I routinely play World of Tanks on mine with middle-of-the-road type graphics, and I'm very satisfied with the mid-20's to mid-30's frames per second. If you pump it as high as it goes (or as high as it lets you) you will see the frame rate drop though to a humanly noticeable level. The same can be said for Skyrim.
Some of the things that aren't measured in the specs that you might want to be aware of. This can get rather hot. If you are doing anything complicated, this could be come a 'not-on-my-lap laptop.' If you're just playing with the internet, it usually seems to be fine. If, like I mentioned above, you're playing a game, definitely set it down somewhere else. Also, this is the first Acer that I've purchased where the sound that comes with the computer is noticeably bad. The speakers that are in this sound tinny and hollow. If you are planning on playing music, this would probably force you to headphones or a separate speaker system. I carry around an 'X-Mini II Capsule Speaker,' which is quite nice for what it is, so I can plug that in if I need pretty or more noises for whatever reason.
I had a budget of about $1,500, so I was considering the Asus Zenbook Prime in the same form factor, but I couldn't find one with the 256GB SSD. Moreover, it didn't have a full-sized SD card slot and didn't come with the old-school VGA port (this was important because many of the customers I visit do not have projectors with HDMI inputs). I finally decided that for the price, I would buy the Acer V5 because it had the same processor (Ivy bridge Core i7) and double the RAM of the Asus (8GB vs. 4GB).
It seems that the minor problems with the last notebook have been addressed and it is exceedingly fast. The only complaint is that I'm still adapting to the touchpad with integrated buttons as my last one had dedicated buttons. However, with the money I saved, I decided to buy a 256GB SSD for the computer (be sure to get one that is 7mm high most of them are 9mm and will not fit inside the chassis) and used Acronis True Image to clone the drive...wow. Screaming fast performance that takes about 15 seconds to go from completely powered off to booted and about 4 seconds to go from sleep to booted. Apps open almost instantaneously...and I still have about $500 left in the budget to buy more stuff!
A quick word to those of you that put an SSD in the device using Acronis: I used a USB enclosure to turn the SSD drive into a flash drive in order to do the cloning. I spent a couple of hours trying to clone and the only way it worked for me was when I created a bootable flash drive with Acronis and then changed the BIOS's settings from UEFI to LegacyBoot (otherwise the BIOS won't let you boot to Acronis' Linux image). The cloning takes about an hour and then you can swap the HDD and SSD. Once you swap the drives, you need to change the BIOS back to UEFI or it won't boot Windows 8. Good luck!

Just got the machine on clearence. It seems like a nice machine. The mouse pad is a bit unresponsive. I had to turn the touch pad sensitivity up to full to get reasonable performance.Windows 8: Wow, what an impressively hard to use operating system. I really hate Windows 8. As an engineer, I really did not think it would be that bad moving to Windows 8, that it would just take some getting used to. I am considering dropping back to W7 until the new W8 comes out that includes changes due to "user feedback". I hope they do that big time or its time to switch to MAC or Unix. It would be really nice if w8 came with a built in w7 fallback option.
I went to upgrade the hardrive and could not find how to get to the hard drive/memory. The bottom of the machine has a single, very large flat panel. All I had to do was to remove the one visiable screw near the front center and slide the panel off to the front. Very nice! Remove the battery before doing this just to be safe.
I found I could not upgrade the hard drive on this machine. A normal laptop drive is ~9.5mm thick. Some of the older drives are 12mm thick. I got a new 9.5mm 1TB drive (which is thin for a 1 TB drive) and found that it was too thick for the panel to fit properly back on the machine. It turns out that the WD 500 GB drive used in this machine (WD5000LPVX)is abnormally thin (6.5mm?), most likely specifically designed for thin ultrabook type laptops. Higher capacity drives just will not fit at this point in time. All I can say is that if you want to upgrade to an SSD, check the thickness first.
The battery uses an odd "slide lock" near the back. It was not clear to me that this was a slide and that it was for the battery.

Want Acer Aspire V5-171-9661 11.6-Inch Laptop (Silky Silver) Discount?
My V5-171-9661 would have been a great laptop, had it not suffered from the two following major issues:1) It delivers only SATA2 (3Gb/s max) speed with Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD (~250MB/s reads). The laptop has the latest BIOS v2.15 in AHCI mode and the latest Intel Rapid Storage drivers. Both Intel RST tool and Samsung SSD Magician tool report SATA2, while the laptop's HM77 chipset is known to be SATA3-capable (6Gb/s). The same Samsung SSD used to deliver ~520MB/s with my old Lenovo SATA3-capable system. Now I'm not sure if it's only this specific machine, or the whole line of V5-171-9661 is affected. I'd appreciate if someone with the same model + SATA3 SSD could post his/her results.
2) The laptop came with Absolute Software Computrace/LoJack feature pre-activated. The BIOS doesn't have any settings to turn it off or even see check its status at all. It survives the hard drive swap, complete OS reinstall and keeps creating a set of executable files (rpcnet*.exe, rpcnet*.dll) in system folders. Basically, it is a kind of controversial BIOS rootkit, which seamlessly reports your laptop location (along with other demographics) to Absolute's servers. I have no plans to subscribe to Absolute's services and I don't want my laptop to call any 3rd party without my explicit consent. So far I've been unable to find a way to disable or kill Computrace. I contacted both Acer and Absolute and I am still waiting to hear from them. However, from what I googled on that matter, the chances to get rid of this "feature" appear to be less than zero. Again, my old Lenovo also had this feature in BIOS, but it arrived in inactive state, and I was able to disable it permanently in BIOS.

I was really excited to get my new Macbook Pro and knew I needed a case, I love pink and this look like the best one for me. I was a little hesitant at first, you never know what you are going to get if you haven't seen something in person.I ordered it late on Thursday and it showed up Monday morning. I think the color is even more beautiful than the picture. It is not bulky, but still fits a variety of items. There are lots of pockets, and places to put pens, headphones, anything you might need with you, there are also secret pockets to put money, or things you don't want out in the open. I love it, it hold the laptop, a small textbook, 3subject notebook, and folders plus all the other small things that go in the pockets.
