I purchased this item based on the description ,however when I received it I found some major short comes. There is no enter or send it I wanted to use it for texting and some of the keys are not explained to use. there are some keys that I believe can be used to the missing features but there is no way to know without a direction how to do it. I think if the idea of making this keyboard good but whoever got the job to write the guideline for it missed a lot and frankly wasted it.

I'm giving it 3 for the good idea and 1 star for the quality and the workman ship of the item. If I knew this I would not bought it and look around more.

rooCase Apple MacBook Air MC233LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop Carrying Case - Dark Blue / Black Deluxe Bag

rooCase Apple MacBook Air MC233LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop Carrying Case - Dark Blue / Black Deluxe BagI ordered this case after reading the reviews. It fits my MacBook Air perfectly. It also holds my kindle and all necessary cords without being bulky. I did not have any problems with the shoulder strap and I like having it be a bright blue so I can spot it immediately as it comes out of airport x-ray machines. The case is made of a thick sturdy material, but is not heavily padded, so if you are the "hard on things" type, this may not be for you.

I bought this carrying case to take my new ultrabook on a trip. I put my (ultralight) laptop in there and a few other items, but nothing wildly heavy. No sooner had I gotten off the first plane than the strap broke on one side. Luckily I noticed before the whole thing crashed to the ground. Since I was in transit I couldn't send it back, so I had to take it to a shoe-repair shop and have the strap resewn (for an additional $10). It's a nice enough case otherwise but breaking within 24 hours seems to indicate shoddy construction.

Belkin 15 AND 1 MEDIA READER/WRITER ( F5U249 )

Belkin 15 AND 1 MEDIA READER/WRITERI've been using this card reader for 2 years. I use it daily and enjoy it very much. I bought a 2GB SD card for my Treo and unfortunately this card reader will not work with it. The 2GB card works in my Treo and on my Compaq Laptop (Texas Instruments chipset). So I called Belkin tech support and the rep was very familiar with this type of call. He said there is nothing he can do for me at this time, Belkin products do not support 2GB yet. Oh well.

Belkin now has the Revision 3 (three) of the product available which supports 2GB SD Cards. Check if you have a little sticker on the bottom of your cardreader.

I contacted technical support if the product number and asked "guess what my problem is", Support guessed right and assumed its the 2 GB SD problem and offered an exchange free of charge.

I give Belkin a big plus for the hassle free exchange, however a similar big minus for selling outdated products in the first place and hoping no one notices. Therefor, three stars.

With the size of memory cards going up and up, you don't want to be stuck with a reader that doesn't support > 1GB size cards. And no, they don't tell you that it doesn't support > 1GB in their product literature or manual. Note that I checked with Belkin Tech Support (who I must admit replied relatively quickly). See below:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Belkin Technical Support. Unfortunately our media readers do not support media over 1Gig. If you have further questions or comments, please feel free to contact us at (800) 223-5546 ext. 2263 Between the hours of 6:00 am 5:00 pm Pacific time.

Compact, fast and looks good on my desk. Works well for all cards but doesn't recognize SD cards 2GB and larger. I wish I would've known that when I bought it last year. I contacted customer support to see if I could exchange for a newer version or if they had a firmware fix. No on both. They just said it doesn't support 2GB or larger cards.

I needed a reader for SmartMedia cards and this one works perfectly. Just stick the card in and it shows up in your folders correctly identified. It also reads all the other cards I use just as easily. Usb port hook up is as simple as you can have also.

Cricket ZTE Score X500 Hawaiian Flower Vine on Green Design (B-HFL), Rubberized Coated Surface Impa

Cricket ZTE Score X500 Hawaiian Flower Vine on Green Design, Rubberized Coated Surface Impact Defender Hard Plastic Case Skin Cover Faceplate + Peace Charm and Strap ComboI really like this case for my ZTE Score Android phone. I like the rubberized feel and protection that it gives my phone. The reason I only gave it 4 stars, was because it did not come with a tool to take the case off, so I have worn away some of the rubber stuff on the sides of the case where the front and back pieces snap together. Other than being kind of a pain to take off, this case is gorgeous and I would buy it again! =)

HP iPAQ 5455 Pocket PC

HP iPAQ 5455 Pocket PCWell, let me begin by saying that I researched all of the PDAs on the market including Palm products and came away that this unit would be the best choice out there due to its 80211b connectivity. I primarily use Windows and as such though it would be a great tool to use to keep track of my contacts, Outlook messages, and to even sometimes use the IE browser capabilities remotely. After getting the unit, setting it up, and using it for several weeks I ended up returning it. Here's why, 1) The battery power is horrible if you use BlueTooth or the 80211b. I primarily wanted the unit to connect to my Outlook both at home and at work and I found the battery lifetime to be just short of two hours when using the 80211b (with BlueTooth turned off). This made it really tough to be able to attend a long meeting and rely on the 5455 for my email. Yes I could have carried optional battery packs, but I didn't want to do that. After all if this unit is supposed to be all encompassing then I shouldn't need to carry gear with me to support it. 2) The reliability of the wireless is not without its faults. Quite often I had to do soft resets it got to the point that somewhere between 20-30 percent of the time a soft reset was required. 3) The Pocket PC operating system, particularly the aspects related to wireless connectivity and connectivity with the AutoSynch mechanism are not flawless in their implementation you'll find problems connecting, you'll lose connections, and if you have more than one email service/account then you'll have to manually switch each time to get mail from each of the accounts. 4) I noticed the current incarnation of the Pocket PC OS have problems with slowing down in CPU speed when adding more applications to the unit. This is somewhat expected that as you add apps the OS will slow down, but adding just a handful of standard apps to the 5455 brought the peppy default speed of the unit down to almost intolerable. Again, since these were my primary reasons for purchasing the unit if the synching and wireless didn't work perfectly then there was little point in keeping the 5455. After three weeks of giving the 5455 every effort that I could make a case for keeping it I came to the conclusion that it did not meet my needs. A few weeks later I still do not in any way regret the decision of returning it. Taking into consideration the cost of the unit and the poor reliability and short battery life it just didn't make sense for me. I'll wait till HP come out with better battery technology that actually lasts with wireless and I'll wait till Microsoft come out with their next implementation of the OS which will hopefully synchronize and generally work more reliably. Perhaps by the time this happens then we'll have a version available which is built into a digital telephone this would be an even more practical and useful real-world solution.

This should have been the ideal PocketPC for me. With built-in Bluetooth and Wifi, it is a networking powerhouse without the need for sleds. Unfortunately, there appear to be severe production problems with this unit.

I purchased one and had to return it due to frequent lockups. Sure, it's Windows it crashes, but this was obscene. I booted between 7 and 20 times per day! I returned the unit assuming that I had a bad unit and the other one was the same way. Another collegue bought one and it went totally dark after two weeks. We are zero for three.

The CompUSA store looked it up on the computer and noted 13 returns in 22 days. This unit is a disaster. Perhaps in a few months after a ROM pack is released this will be good, but the current (23-Feb-2003) version of 1.00.45 should never have been released.

Buy HP iPAQ 5455 Pocket PC Now

While an attractive package with built in wireless (Blue Tooth, 802.11B), fingerprint recognition (for enhanced security and easy login), HP has in fact delivered a mess.

The saga thus far: Upon delivery the unit was delivered with a stack of supplement manuals and addendums describing the add-on features, however there was no manual for the Pocket PC 2003 operating system. The manual is 160+ pages, and hidden on the CD as a PDF file (although my first round with tech support couldn't find it on the CD, and pointed me to the web site where he couldn't find it either!) It was explained to me that the O/S is provided by a third party vendor (Microsoft), and therefore HP isn't responsible for it! Right... (Never mind that it is essential to the unit, and is useless without it!) Further, attempts to move the PDF to the iPAQ so it can be read with Adobe Acrobat Reader for the Pocket PC when needed proved useless. I personally think this is inexcusable I shouldn't have to download the file to a PC, keep the PC with me at all times, so I can have access to it when I have a problem with the Pocket PC or print out a 160 page book on 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper and figure out how to carry it with me. (Kind of defeats the purpose of having a pocket PC!) The unit needs to be delivered with this basic tool.

Next: The unit filed after 2 hours of use. It turned itself on while in my briefcase, got extremely hot, and completely locked up. The 5450 would not reset. Turns out that HP will not send a replacement (unless you want to pay for an additional warranty), so it disappeared for a week and a half (vice the 3 days that were promised when I called technical support). When it was returned, I was informed that they couldn't duplicate the error, so they did nothing. I have since determined that the optional leather executive case sold by HP was designed so that it can readily touch the overly sensitive power switch turning the unit on so it will overheat and run the battery dead. If I don't use the ... leather case (sold by HP for the 5450, it is much less prone to turning itself on and overheating!

The handwriting recognition is poor and difficult to tailor. As often as not, the unit will not exit the keyboard mode without a system reset. (BTW, I find I do 7-8 resets a day at this point between this problem, memory card problems, and wireless problems.)

As for the wireless I have gottent it to work exactly once. After numerous calls to technical support, I have managed to get it to work with one of four wireless networks. According to tech support, the unit will not tolerate 802.11G in the area. They consider it a problem with the 802.11G standards, never mind that my other 802.11B devices are working with no difficulty! It gets worse! The configuration for each network involves multiple control panels that are scattered throughout the O/S, counter-intuitive and poorly documented. You won't gett any help from the FAQ's or technical support web site either. For instance, if you should manage to get the wireless to recognize a network, you then need to go through the network settings control panel, and indicate in three different drop-down boxes that you are connecting at "work" (rather than the "internet" or "home"). Use of any other setting will effectively prevent the device from using the wireless, and requires you to configure a modem (never mind that the whole point of wireless is to avoid using a modem, or you may need different wireless configuration settings at different locations)! (Why work=wireless has yet to be explained to me by technical support.) Clear yet? I thought not...

The latest saga has to do with the SD memory card. It cannot be written to or have the existing files deleted. Suspecting a corrupt file, I tried to find information on formatting the card (or any other information on the memory cards) on the HP web site. There was none. When I called technical support, they informed me that every SD card needed to be formatted before it was used. (Again, nothing in the user guide or the web site). Further, there was no utility provided by HP to do this! I needed to go to a another vendor's web site, and BUY this utility separately (even though it was REQUIRED before I could use the card even the one HP sold me with the 5450!. Despite my better judgment, I bought the utility and low and behold it doesn't work either. Again, how HP can justify not including a basic utility that is required to use the device eludes me.

Finally, this was one of two units I bought for evaluation in my laboratory. The other I gave to my network systems engineer. His story isn't any happier. In addition to the issues I have encountered, his problems have centered around that expansion pack, and the fact that they are such a poor fit, that the unit constantly sees the battery in the expansion pack as going dead (because it fits so poorly) that the unit keeps shutting down. Any devices plugged into the expansion pack are constantly seen as being removed and installed requiring numerous resets as things try to reload.

We have also bought the new Viewsonic pocket PCs and Casios for evaluation. They have been an order of magnitude more reliable that the HP iPAQ 5450, despite (because) fewer features, and further came with complete documentation. None of these have failed to date, nor have we had an issue requiring our contacting technical support.

Our conclusion: the HP iPAQ 5450 is a poorly executed design, lacking basic documentation, with poor support, and should therefore be avoided at all costs.

I've been a long time Palm user starting with a Pro and owning 6 or 7 since, most recently an M515. The screen was what first attracted me to this unit plus the wireless network, well, it 'sort of' worked for a month, but I've had enough. This unit seems like it would be a good idea, but isn't. Installation and initial sync went very smooth, but that was only the beginning.

DAY 1: First day carrying it, it locked up solidly it wouldn't turn off or soft reset, I didn't have the CD w/the manual on it (bad idea) with me, so I didn't know how to hard reset. I tried taking the battery off, but the unit just came back on (in it's locked up state) when the battery was reinstalled so I just let it die. I spent that evening getting it running again and trying to get the wireless networking to connect to my Linksys WAP11. After fiddling way too much, I finally got my mail and MSN Messenger to work, but not the browser. Finally I called HP's support site and was warned that any help he gave me was on a 'best try only' basis no promises we couldn't get the thing to work.

DAY 2: I left the wireless networking enabled and went to work the battery was completely dead by Noon with wireless enabled the battery seems to have a painfully short life. So I spent that evening restoring it again. I went to HP's website and found an external battery ...

Perfect huh? Ordered this puppy immediately only to find it only works with the expansion pack which adds expansion slots, but also a LOT of bulk just to have a reasonable battery life? I called HP to return it and the agent sent me to the parts department for a second battery to carry. .... he assured me that I didn't have the skills to replace the battery. I told him that it just had a little latch on it and it flipped out and I was quite sure I could handle it. He replied that the case was sealed and that no one but HP was authorized to open it. I told him that tech support had asked me to remove the battery to retrieve the serial number from the label under it and didn't see the problem with removing it. He was then VERY annoyed, told me that I didn't know what I was talking about, and hung up. I figured that there will be higher capacity batteries in the aftermarket soon.

Now it's over 3 weeks later and although I haven't missed any meetings or anything because this thing failed me, I've come close, and instead of just grabbing my Palm and using it without giving it any thought, I find myself reaching for it and wondering if it's going to work. I finally decided I've had enough. I picked out one of the new [brand name] Palm OS units w/MP3 and ordered it. I then decided to call HP and see if they would consider a return for a one month old order they did so without hesitation they looked at their records and saw that I had several tech support contacts on it, appologized that it didn't work out and even sent FedEx with a pickup tag.

The Palm is by far a better platform for simple organizer tasks, but the PPC 'horsepower' is great when using spreadsheets and the like I thought I could have both.

Want HP iPAQ 5455 Pocket PC Discount?

I purchased the iPaq 5455 one year ago, directly from HP when it first hit the market, paying $649 plus $200 for a 3 year top of the line warranty. I have had several problems with the unit. Starting with the display on the unit going out only after a month or two of receiving it. The next problem was with the battery loosing its charge. Most recently, I have been having the recurring problem of the unit locking up not powering on. And like others, I have never been able to sync my info wirelessly.

I have placed several calls to tech support. I have troubleshooted the unit while on the phone with them and even sent the unit in for repair a month ago, in which I did not get a replacement unit, although my extended warranty states that I should. I received the unit back from repair and the documentation stated that no parts were replaced. Knowing that I definitely had a problem with the unit, I called tech support to see what was repaired. I was told a big lie that the battery was changed and the ENC part was replaced. Looking at my unit now, I see that it is the same battery that I had when I sent it in for repair.

Thinking that all was fixed with my unit, I downloaded all of my information. The next day I experienced the same problem with the unit not powering on with the power button. I placed another call to tech support in which the tech and myself troubleshooted the unit. The tech told me to hard boot my unit which erased all of my data. I was told not to install the one 3rd party software that I had installed to monitor the situation. I once again reinstalled my information without the 3rd party software. Again, my unit would not power on. Again, I called tech support and angrily described my situation.

Finally, the tech tells me that I will be sent a REFURBISHED unit. I received the refurbished unit two days ago and encountered the same problem once I loaded all of my data on to it. HP tech support has you to hard reset the unit to erase all data, which appears to make the unit work properly, but once the data is loaded, the problems begin. Today I called tech support and told them I am returning the refurbished replacement unit and keeping my original to see what their customer care department does to satisfy me.

I purchased the unit because I felt it would be an asset to my busy professional life, but it has been nothing but a hassle. I have sent several email complaints to HP customer support and finally to the CEO Carly Fiorina. I got a reply email from her address stating that someone would be in contact with me.

Each call and every email, I have gotten the same script of "we apologize for your inconvenience". The tech support department located in India is very unhelpful and they speak to you as if you were an idiot.

The unit has some slick features, but right now I am very dissatisfied and frustrated.

HP 110 Handheld Classic iPAQ - FA980AA#ABA

HP 110 Handheld Classic iPAQ - FA980AA#ABAMuch faster than my iPAQ 1945 and about 50% better battery life. I can work 15 hours straight (excluding WiFi use) and still have about 35-40% battery reserve left. The program buttons don't turn the unit on any more, you have to push the "on" button first. WiFi reception is excellent.

I recently got a Samsung Smartphone which can access the Internet and receive Email. I was ready to get one for my wife when she said she didn't need to be on the Internet when out. I still wanted to update her PDA so the HP iPAQ 110 fit the bill. It's Windows Mobile 6 Classic which means it's the same Windows Mobile 6 as on the Smart Phones but the Classic means it's not part of a phone. It's a great product at a good price.

I have had my ipaq classic 110 for a little over a year now and I use mine for work. I work in the public and medical industry and utilize programs related to medical. It is amazingly easy to purchase and download programs. The only complaint I have is that if you let the battery run down you lose all your information and have to reload from scratch. However, what I really like is that I can load to programs onto a memory card and use them from that. If the battery runs down, they are still there. I haven't figured out how to get the blue tooth to work with my computer or cellular phone, or the wifi, for windows updates or internet. The speed is very good and the battery life is good too. One charge will last me 3-5 days depending on usage.

That I bought a 2nd iPAQ at a time when everybody is buying tablets shows how much I love this marvelous invention. The reasons are easily understood: smarts, size and overall convenience. You can do wordprocessing and spreadsheets and surf the net at hot spots or at home if you have a wireless router. It comes with an expansion slot for standard SD cards. Text input is done with a stylus; once you get used to it you'll be hooked and writing all sorts of memos and notes and love letters to the universe if that's your thing. Now for the bad news: HP has discontinued this line of products and finding one is very difficult. Too bad because here's a product that thinking people everywhere will appreciate.

VuPoint Magic Wand Portable Photo & Document Scanner with Auto-Feed Dock (White) with 16GB Card

VuPoint Magic Wand Portable Photo & Document Scanner with Auto-Feed Dock with 16GB Card & Reader KitIt did everything I expected, and much superior to other similar products I've tried, and had to send back. One caveat, though. I am scanning old photographs for restoration using Photoshop. When a 1200 dpi scan requires maximum blow-up for repair, there are some longitudinal linear artifacts in white or very light areas. Reducing back to normal viewing, they seem to disappear. Occasionally I have a blown-up section I want to extract from an enlarged portion, and the lines make it unsatisfactory. For that 1/2 of 1% of the time, I re-scan on my flat-bed, and the line artifacts are not generated. Certainly, given the speed with which I can now run through hundreds of photos, this is an excellent product.

One other minor item some of these old photos from the 1920's, 30's and 40's have wonderful descriptive comments penned on by the original owners two or three generations back, and for those, I scan both front and back, so I will be able to complete a pictorial history on CD's that I can share with family. When scanning the back of a photo that has a very dark area in the upper left corner, the sensor on the scanner does generate the signal to pull the photo through. It starts with gripping the edge of the photo and then stops. To get around this, I hold a white business card over the sensor window and the pull begins. Have to be careful not to let the business card get too close, though or the card will also be gripped and pulled through, giving you lots of scans of the business card. Little tricky to get it just right, but well worth the trouble to capture those wonderful personal annotations to accompany the photos.

Did a lot of research on this product or ones like it. I like the detachable feature, works very well. I thought I received good value.

It's extremely easy to use, just press the button on the serial cable and the software will sync your Palm m100 with your computer. You'll save wear and tear on you serial port also.

rooCASE (Black) Leather Case Cover with stand for Motorola Xoom 2 8.2-Inch Edition Tablet

rooCASE Leather Case Cover with stand for Motorola Xoom 2 8.2-Inch Edition TabletI bought this case for a 8" NextBook tablet. According to Amazon search it would fit.

Height wise it was fine but it was a bit too short in the width by at least 1/4 inch.

This is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars.

I do plan to return it for exchange.

I would love any recommendations for a case.

The tablet is a "Nextbook Premium 8se.

I also purchased this case in the 10" iPad size.

I LOVE it!! Got it in bright green so that I can find it easily!

It makes me smile every time I look at it!

Sony MSXM8GS 8 GB Memory Stick PRO Duo (Retail Package)

Sony MSXM8GS 8 GB Memory Stick PRO DuoSo I ordered the 8GB memory card from a retailer on Amazon. It came in, and everything looked as it should. Then as I started to use it in my Video camera, I was getting error messages and data corruption issues. I did some searching around on the internet and I found that the error is usually do to counterfeit memory cards. So I looked on the page and they gave a great list of things to look for. Biggest giveaway that mine was not really from Sony:

* There was no product information paper on the inside in several languages

* The UPC had MSX-M8GST/X, the valid UPC does not have the "T/X" at the end, and the actual number under the UPC was for a 1GB memory card.

* Obviously the bad performance of the card.

I talked with Amazon, and got the seller to refund my money and I ordered it directly from Amazon. When I looked at the two packages side by side, there was an obvious difference. On the card, the print was very faded (and incorrect) versus the legit card.

So the card itself is great, but buyer beware of the fakes. Here is a good article that talks about spotting fakes:

I'm totally dissapointed, i bought two Sony MSXM8GS 8 GB Memory Stick PRO Duo (Retail Package)from two different sellers, and they are fake totally fake, i wrote to the sellers and they said that they can't do anithing about, this is so bad, that this people be allowed to sell in Amazon, since they are fooling people, and taking our money just that easy, i tought that since was Amazon, this things would not happen, i was wrong, now i'm afraid to buy any other thing, cause i don't know if i'm going to get what i bought.....

if you are buying this for a psp, then YES IT WORKS! It is awesome! People are saying that its slow loading movies, but I've had no problems. I had more wait time loading movies on my 4gb then on the 8. Have no doubt this is the real deal, an 8gb for the psp. movies/pictures/songs can hold it all!!

Verrryyy Niiiccee as Borat would say, this product rocks. 8 gigs is huge for a PSP or digital camera. I use mine for my PSP and I have 3 movies, about 250 songs, 1000 pictures, every demo game made and all of my game saves and downloaded content on the stick! It is excellent, however it is not quite as fast as my old 4 Gig Sandisk card, but you really only notice when opening the videos folder and while transferring from a PC. It is still fairly quick and I definitely recommend getting one if $200 sounds like a good deal to you!

I have two of these 8GB babies and use one in my PSP Slim and the other in my Sony VAIO UX280P micro PC. On the PSP I loaded 5GB with movies and TV as well as my favorite MP3s, and leave over 2GB for game saves. The speed of the memory stick on both devices (the PSP and the UX280P) is quite good. (Sony also sells "high-speed" cards with red markings, which are about 50% faster but also 50% more expensive.) I don't know if this 8GB memory stick is ReadyBoost-capable on Vista; I have a 4GB version which supports ReadyBoost in my Sony FE-series laptop at work.

I own quite a number of Sony memory stick media and they've always been reliable. I've dropped them, stepped on them (actually my son did that more often), and they still work.

HQRP 1100mAh Battery for Palm ZIRE 71 , 72 PDA Replacement + 2x Screwdriver and Installation Manual

HQRP 1100mAh Battery for Palm ZIRE 71 , 72 PDA Replacement + 2x Screwdriver and Installation Manual plus PDA Screen Protector
  • HQRP Li-Polymer Rechargeable Internal Battery plus PDA Screen Protector;
  • 1100 mAh Ultra High Capacity, 3.7V, with Longer Runtime;
  • 100% compatible with original batteries and chargers;
  • CE and SGS-ISO-9001-2000 Approved;
  • 200 days warranty!

I purchased this battery / torx driver / manual with a bit of skepticism. 10.00 for a battery that's 50.00 everywhre else.

My overall experience

1) Initial -

My product came with 2 torx drivers ( T-5 & T-6 drivers ) and my palm Zire 72 had 2 different screw sizes ( T-5 and Philips 00 size ). Neither of the included screwdrivers fit my Palm device's screws so I had to get an inexpensive multi-bit mini driver set from Harbor Freight. Their T-5 driver should have worked but was too large the T-5 bit I got in multi-bit set worked perfectly.

2) Installattion the instructions were pretty clearly written but I did find it helpful to search online to get some more detailed photos of my device being opened. It was a bit tricky getting the case apart I was concerned it might break but the additional photos I found online gave me a better idea of how the case was attached toward the top of my Palm Zire 72 and worked the case apart without breaking anything.

3) The OEM battery was glued into my device had to pry it slightly but was pretty simple. After the new battery is out new one is put in with ease. I borrowed the adhesive from my old battery to affix new battery into the case for re-assembly. Closing the case was also a bit tricky but closeable.

4) Battery impressions it works great. I've had mine for 2 months and it holds a charge way longer than the original battery which had a lower mah rating.

Overall I'd recommend this battery for a Palm Zire 72 replacement just know that it's not as simple as removing a cover and replacing the batteries in your remote. A bit of patience and mechanical inclination helps and having a set of precision screwdrivers which can be found online pretty cheap might be needed.

First I didn't get the torx screwdriver as promised. When contacted, the company did give me a partial refund that didn't cover the price I paid for the torx screwdriver at a hardware store. It was an unanticipated extra hassle, but not a huge deal, and the company did make an effort to make amends. Now, though, just over two months later, the battery is flat out dead. I charge it nearly every day. Suddenly, the battery will not hold a full charge for even an hour. It goes completely dead in that time.

The kit works well for the Palm zire 71 (can't say if the screwdrivers are meant for the Palm 72) but do fit with the Palm zire 71. Just hope you have a little patience to take the palm apart, and get the old battery out and replace it with the new one. Luckily my husband is good at this kind of thing and thus it was definitely worth the money and having the tool with the battery definitely helped.

The battery seemed to get a favorable review so I ordered it in November 2009. The instructions were clear, although I agree the screwdriver didn't fit. I've done the replacement before, so it was very straightforward.

However, it's now July 2010 and the battery will not hold more than a 30 percent charge. I read e-books on my commute and my Zire 72 won't even last through the 25 minute ride! Unfortunately, I'm 25 days past their 200 day warranty, so I'm out of luck. I emailed the merchant, but they're sticking by their warranty. Needless to say, I'm not at all happy or satisfied with the battery!

Late July: I just want to add a follow-up to my review. I received another email from customer service and they agreed to send me a new battery at no charge; I haven't installed it yet, but they indicated that this is an improved battery over the previous model. They continued to follow up to make sure I was satisfied. I was pleasantly surprised and very happy to get the replacement battery.

Customer service was very responsive to my needs and I'm happy I can continue to read books on my Zire 72!

Micca Slim-HD 1080p Full-HD Portable Digital Media Player w/ 2.5-Inch HDD Drive Bay

Micca Slim-HD 1080p Full-HD Portable Digital Media Player w/ 2.5-Inch HDD Drive BayThe Micca Slim-HD is a good little portable media player. I purchased the device for a recent conference overseas the intention was to connect it to a large HDTV screen through a HDMI cable and run it continuously for 4-days with a looping video from a 500Gb Western Digital internal disk-drive.

As time was running short, I decided to purchase 2 devices one to use as a primary device and the other as a redundant fall-back should the first one fail. When the shipment arrived I noted that the design was a little flimsy. I would have liked to see a tougher enclosure particularly given that it is designed to be portable and can easily be knocked around. In any case, I inserted the internal drive and went to power it up as per the instructions. Unfortunately, the first device did not work so I was relieved that I had purchased the second as a redundancy. I contacted Micca support using the form on their website and in a relatively short period of time "Jack" emailed me and suggested that I buy a 3rd device and return the other through Amazon. I did that and within days the 3rd device had turned up only to find that the power supply did not work. I emailed Jack again and he sent me 2 new power supplies. While there were issues, I found the customer support to be very impressive. Jack even called me at one stage to talk through the issues.

As for the functionality The device will play most popular video formats. I found that some perform better than others. Jack suggested using the MKV file format which I found performed the best out of the many formats I tried. Out of these I found a couple that did not work including the high-end Apple ProRes codec . For most users this won't be an issue unless you're planning to use a professional editing studio to produce your own video content.

The most annoying thing about the device is its speed. At this stage I've only used the internal drive which Jack tells me is the quickest out of all the interfaces but it's still very slow. Finding video on the device isn't convenient but it's not too painful. It's about 3-4 clicks to find a video. The slow responsiveness may also be due to the remote. I find myself clicking buttons several times before the device responds to a command. This is probably due to the limited angle on the remote (you must be directly in front of the device for the remote to work) and the slow responsiveness of the device. As an example, several times I've tried to fast forward through a video only to have the screen message tell me something different the actual video is fast forwarding but the onscreen display is telling me it's rewinding. Also, I've also found that on occasion video files do not appear in the folders, so you have to re-copy the file to the device so yes, there are bugs in the software.

I consider myself a demanding user of the device and expect a lot. Keeping this in mind and given that it's more intended for home use, I was impressed with the system it does what it says it will do. The hi-resolution video looked impressive on the big screen and it performed will over the 4-days of continuous use. There are some limitations that are annoying but easily overcome. If you're looking to use this for a simple portable video player you won't be disappointed. I think the price point is a little high given that new devices are constantly entering the market with internet connectivity, more functionality and better interfaces, so I'd expect to see this drop some time soon.

All-in-all it's a good device which is well supported by Micca's customer service team.

This little unit plays all the major video files and plays them well. With the bonus of being portable. One connection using HDMI and your good to go. Remote is very well desinged and the unit looks fantastic. I added a 320GB hard drive but also tested both the SD card and the USB for playing video. I tested every format that is listed except RMVB and all played with top quality full HD. (Did not have an RMVB file to test). None of the other players I've owned could do this. I've been building HTPC's for about 10 years and have experienced the progress of many portable media players. I have the Xbox and used it to stream video: Too much trouble. Owned the Avox JukeBox by Vantec: Very limited file formats and remote is terrible. I've owned the Dlink DSM 510: Great product but very finicky. Locked up a lot and no internal storage. Owned the Galaxy Metal Gear Tvisto Mini: Nice product but limited formats and took a mess of cables to connect.

Nothing beats a Home Theater PC for quality and usefulness but this Micca slim is kick ass for a portable player...

I would recommend for anyone needing a portable video player. In fact, if you don't need the full features or expense of an HTPC then this unit would make a good HTPC alternative.

Buy Micca Slim-HD 1080p Full-HD Portable Digital Media Player w/ 2.5-Inch HDD Drive Bay Now

I give the Micca Slim HD 4 big stars! A super small, portable, capable media player. I updated to the latest firmware available. I withheld the last STAR for:

1: A few playback issues It cannot play older DivX codec and WMV8/7 codec.

Re-encoding those older files will be a waste of time.

It cannot play VOB files at all

2: The remote Micca needs to improve or boost the IR signal of the remote control. If you

don't point it correctly it's very sluggish. If you're going through contents of

a 1TB external hdd, you will soon find your arms getting tired because of the need

for you to point the remote just at the right level.

Micca also needs to add more functionality on the arrow buttons

(up,down, left, right). I would be nice if you can use the left/right button move

forward/backwards within directories, instead of tirelessly depressing the

"Exit" button to move from one folder to the next. Also the exit button

needs to be just as big as the OSD button since it's constantly being used.

Powering "OFF" the device with the remote is fairly easy but for some

reason powering it "ON" via the remote can be quite a challenge . I have to

point & press at least 3x before it powers on.

Lastly, for some weird reason the DOWN arrow button of the Micca remote

can power ON/power OFF my old single DVD player(I removed the old

DVD player to solve the conflict)

3: Micca's LED power light should turn on/off, a better indication to let you know if the unit

is on or off. Instead it remains on 24/7.

4: File description function does not work: When browsing files, on the top left there is a file

attribute section. Good idea but it does not work. Selecting a file does not

display any information on that file. It would be nice if the file info section

would actually display file info, an icon or a thumbnail for easier browsing.

Back to the Micca Slim HD: This tiny device is an excellent media player it can play many different video formats that you throw at it. Contrary to other reviews, the player itself is very responsive and quick to locate files on a USB external hard drive, flash drive, or an SDHC card (have not tried the internal drive yet since I don't have a 2.5" drive)

Without an internal drive, the Micca Slim HD is very light. I have to twist the HDMI cable so it doesn't keep the player slightly tilted to its side.

I tested several 720p/1080p video contents ranging from 5mbps 35mbps(HD-WMV,HD-DivX,HD-XviD,HD-MKV) all files played without a glitch. Many SD video contents played very well.

All in all I highly recommend Micca Slim HD player if you want to watch all your media collections on your HDTV via internal/external HDD.

On a side note: It would be nice if Micca included a simple HDMI cable instead of the very useless composite cable.

05.28.2011 -

UPDATE: I finally bought a 2.5" 500GB Western Digital 'green' hard drive. I copied all my encoded mp4 & mkv files on it, installed it in the Micca slim HD player and I'm glad to report that it recognized the 500GB internal hard drive with no problems and played all my movie files just fine...

11.07.2012 -

Another UPDATE: THE GOOD: Yes, my Micca HD-Slim is still alive and kicking...THE BAD: It's sad that I cannot update the HD-Slim firmware to the latest one because the one posted on the Micca site is just a patch for v120107.. The instruction said I need to have v120107 installed before I can install the latest update. Micca support is unresponsive. I contacted them 3x but no luck, they will not send me the download link of firmware v120107.

NOTE to MICCA Store --Why in the world are you guys hiding the firmware updates?

This is a hard one, because the product is really great. I do read among the other reviews that there are quality control issues, however I haven't run into that.

This is a product I have long dreamed of. A portable device that I can use as a good travel hard drive and also plug into any hotel TV and watch my media with a remote. I say any hotel TV because some hotels have LCD TVs and HDMI but some have old TVs and need composite. Before the Micca, I was using an Archos for this duty, along with a Wii controller for remote control. Before that, a SageTV HD200 and portable hard drive (bulky as heck). Before that another Archos with no remote control (really long cables instead) and before that my laptop with a bulky MCE remote and an expensive bulky box to convert VGA to other output types. So you can image, seeing this product was like a dream come true.

As a Portable Hard Drive

The Micca excels as a normal portable hard drive. It plugs right in and uses USB for power, no power brick needed. I put in a 1TB hard drive and this fit fine. Be careful, as there are hard drives that are too thick. You need to make sure the hard drive is 9.5mm thick, no more.

As a Media Player

It will not play everything, but it plays most things. A bit annoying that it doesn't play mts (HD camcorder format), but if you have a laptop, you can just change the extension and then it plays (no need to convert format). It plays most mkvs and handles 1080p well, however you will run into some it won't play for whatever reason. My SageTV HD300s don't play all my MKVs either, so I expected this going in. There are some advanced sound codec support missing, but again, as expected. Subtitle support is great (PGS missing of course), but I wish I could control the size of the subtitles and I wish embedded subtitles were supported.

The interface is unattractive and plain. Its also a bit annoying, requiring more clicks that it should, but its functional. I'm not a big interface person, I just want to watch my media on the road, so not a big deal for me.

The Bad

The remote range is very short. I don't care which way you turn the unit, some of these other reviews are way off base on this issue or my unit is malfunctioning, because I've tuned it every which way and the range is short. I can prove its just weak IR because I use an IR adapter for my phone and control it that way and do not have any IR issues any more.

It gets hot. I carry a portable laptop cooler with me when I travel (for my laptop) and I stick this on top of it to keep it from overheating. I am not saying it will, but everyone knows heat is bad for electronics.

The biggest problem is Micca! This company is totally unresponsive. I emailed them before I bought the Micca, they did not reply. I emailed them after I bought it, no reply. I emailed them again, no reply. I emailed them again and warned them that I had not written my Amazon review yet, and then they replied! Sheesh!

I do not expect any firmware updates or improvements, as this company is totally unresponsive. You can buy this device from a huge well known Chinese internet vendor for 1/3 the price. You won't get any support when you buy it there, but then Micca doesn't give you any either.

A 4-star product ruined by a 1 star company. Such is the world. However, this device fills a dream product for me, so I couldn't take off any more stars. I wish I was happier about it though, why do good products have to be ruined by bad companies?

Want Micca Slim-HD 1080p Full-HD Portable Digital Media Player w/ 2.5-Inch HDD Drive Bay Discount?

I can't understand why the bigger brands are getting more raves and kudos, when a cheap, unknown chinese brand is able to pull all the strings effectively. I had trouble running certain mkv and flv files on both the Patriot Box Office AND the Western Digital Media thingi. This thing plays every damn file on the planet, I kid you not! Granted, the UI may not be too flashy, but it is adequate and easy to use. Very rarely, there may be a video/audio sync, no issue, just stop and start the file from beginning. Doesn't heat up, is very portable, I am using it as en external HDD enclosure too, and it's a brilliant utility when you need to show something to people on TV.

Plays .m2ts, MPEG4s, MKVs, DVDs, FLVs, WMAs, AVIs and every other video file extension I am yet to come across. You can believe the reviews for once, and if there was anything money can buy best, pick this up!! Don't loose the remote folks, or it's a gonner (no physcial buttons).
