Optoma PK320, WVGA, 100 LED Lumens, Pico Pocket Projector

Having never owned a pico projector before, I was intrigued by the idea of them. My old projector has a blown bulb, and instead of spending another $300 for a new bulb I decided I would give this a whirl. I spend a lot of time at work or traveling, so I wanted something to have handy if I ever wanted to play a game or watch a video on the go. I just received my pk320 today and here are my initial impressions:

Pros

1) Very small

2) Lightweight

3) Still feels durable despite 1 and 2

4) Bright picture....this one shocked me. In my living room with the lights on (granted this took place at night) I could clearly see the picture when projected onto a wall across the room. I imagine the result with my projector screen will be better.

5) Built in card reader and decoder work well. I loaded some avi's onto a memory card to test out how this would work. Not only did it work quickly, it also was able to find the avi's I nested within a folder.

6) Built in speaker works surprisingly well

7) Seems like optoma listened to some of the feedback from earlier models and included a remote and some accessories with this model.

8) Padded case seems nice

Cons

1) There is no keystone adjustment feature. This is actually a large issue, in part because of the size of this unit. If you put this on a table/desk/furniture/etc... there's a high chance you will not be directly centered from where you are projecting the image. The tilt up/down/to the side causes very visible distortion in the image shape. It's still watchable, but this seems like a huge oversight for a projector that cost $400+

2) Fan is loud when on "bright" mode (100 lumens). Fan noise is most definitely audible when the projector is running at 100 lumens. This isn't a deal breaker, and honestly it's not terribly loud.

3) Even though the padded case seems nice, there is no spot to put your charger or any accessories.

4) Unit heats up quickly. I haven't had it on for prolonged periods yet, so I'm not sure how this will effect the picture quality or processing. I can tell you that during my 10-15 minute trial runs today it became warm to the touch. These were all during 100 lumen "bright mode" tests, so perhaps the effect is not as great on the normal mode.

5) Cords for accessories are short and move the projector if you are adjusting the input device position. To fix this (and help fix problem 4), I would recommend getting a good mini-tripod. I wouldn't skimp on something in the $1-2 range. I personally went with Joby GP1-A1EN Gorillapod Flexible Tripod (Grey and Black). It was still relatively cheap, and does an excellent job holding the projector firmly in position. I imagine that tripod will also come in handy when I want to bring the projector outdoors along with some external speakers to have a movie night with friends.

6) No lens cap for the projector. The lens appears to be made of plastic and is recessed, but this still seems like an area for concern. A small modification to add a lens cap, which I can't imagine would cost much, could have corrected this issue.

I'll try to do a more detailed review soon, and maybe a video review if I get enough time. Overall I am pleased with the projector, but I still have some other tests I want to do before rendering a final verdict. If you go into this purchase expecting to get high definition, movie theater quality images...you will be disappointed. If you go into this realizing you are trading off movie theater quality picture and a huge projector in exchange for ease of portability while still maintaining a good picture, you will likely be happy.

*Update 3/10/2012*

After having some time to play around with this, I have some additional comments:

* The sound is not nearly as loud as I thought when you are in a large room. It is still better than nothing, but you will likely need an external speaker of some sort to fully enjoy this. Not a deal breaker though, this is a small projector so this shouldn't come as a shock.

* The unit is not as bright when played for a long time. This was expected, as Optoma has admitted their projector dims itself slightly if it gets too hot. Mainly mentioning this so others are aware this is normal behavior.

* I have had some severe problems when playing media directly off the projector (either via micro SD or internal memory). In a handful of cases, the audio is out of sync. In one case, the audio did not play at all. Other times when moving from one video file to another, the projector simply will not play the file. If I restart the projector, the file plays fine. These examples are all using files that meet the Optoma specifications for what the projector can play back. I thought that there may be a chance the firmware was outdated, but when I went to the Optoma site I couldn't even find firmware for this model. Seems to be a big oversight. I plan to call tech support tomorrow to find out what is going on.

* I'm going to do further testing on this issue, but yesterday I started up my projector and after the "Optoma" logo, I got a blank white screen. It did not take me to the menu. This continued several times until I plugged the projector into the charger. I'm not sure if this is normal behavior for when the unit is low on battery, or if there is a bigger issue. This is another item I plan to address with tech support tomorrow.

Overall I am still happy with this unit, but a lot will be riding on my interaction with Optoma tech support tomorrow. I'll keep this updated with the results. Also, I did get a chance to take some pictures in full fluorescent lighting as well as dim lighting. I'll post those in a future update.

*Update 3-18-2012*

I contacted Optoma tech support and they confirmed that my unit is faulty. They said it either has bad software, or a bad battery. Strangely, they advised me to return the unit to Amazon and have Amazon fulfill a new unit. Strange, specifically because the paper inside the box says "STOP! Call tech support and send your unit in for repair before returning it to your place of purchase".

At any rate, I have my new unit now and I'll be testing it out during the week.

I am on the road a lot visiting people in their offices or with small groups. I live by Powerpoint. Before the Optima PK320 Pico Pocket Projector, I was carrying a small laptop, a lightweight projector, a screen, and all the cords needed to power stuff and hook it together. I reduced my weight significantly by getting an iPod Touch and putting my presentations on it, but I was still burdened by cords, projector, etc. Enter the Pico Pocket Projector. It has the ability to project my presentations from a microSD card or usb stick and it can run from battery.

If I am doing presentations in a large room to a lot of people, I still need the big projector, but the PK320 is plenty bright enough for someone's office of small meeting room. Some of my meetings with people inspire ad hoc presentations. I have many preloaded on microSD card in the projector. Now I can whip out the projector and say, "let me show you...". Within seconds, I am able to shine the presentation on a wall. I carry a bright white piece of paper that allows me to throw a 50 inch image. The paper folds down to 8 X 10. No cords. No waiting for extensive warmups. The PK320 is ready to go quickly. Buttons on the top allow me to find the presentation I need quickly and easily. POW I'm off and running.

I have received comments from some I have given presentations to that they were impressed with my preparedness. When I said, "I have a presentation I would like to show you." I merely reached in my pocket and pushed the power button while I was still talking.

The PK320 has 2 brightness modes. Most of the time, I find that I need the high brightness mode, which eats up battery life or depends on external power (from an external battery pack or wall power). I use the external battery pack because its small size is less that the space required for power cords and adapters. The low brightness mode really requires a dark room. The high brightness mode (150 lumens) gets washed out by direct sunlight or bright room lights, but it is bright enough to have moderate lighting on sufficient for people to take notes.

Because of the brightness issues with any pocket projector, I have adjusted my presentations to use high contrast colors. I have not encountered any problems with readability or washout. I do, on occasion, also show some videos with the PK320, and some of those do get washed out if lighting is too high. However, I find myself leaving the old notebook sized road projector at home 95% of the time now that I have the PK320. No more cords to mess with. Everything is in my pocket, literally.

I was very excited about this item for two reasons, its portability, and the fact that the bulb would last a very long time so I wouldn't have to worry about replacing it as I travel internationally. Unfortunately the projector started malfunctioning right off the bat. Within three months I had to replace the cord, it cost sixty two dollars. After I received the cord, within a month the new cord doesn't work correctly. I don't think there's anything wrong with the cord, it appears that at the junction point of the cord going into the projector is a malfunction in the design, as it does not want to sit straight for very long, causing it to not connect correctly, which causes the projection to cease in midstream. Can't watch things very long before this happens.

Also, within six months the pixels I think, the screen started showing one white dot, then after another month it was three, and after a year it's like sixteen white dots on the screen from the lens coat falling apart or something. Bottom line, within one year this thing is a piece of junk, and at four hundred dollars, it s a big disappointment.

It was brilliant while it worked. I bought this unit about a year ago for business presentation while on the road. I used it less than 10 hours in total. Last month I was about to give a presentation to a small group of people using this projector only to find out 100s or maybe 1000s of pixels were dead. It was so bad that I had to use my small laptop screen to continue the presentation. It was a great idea to pack many features and LED light sources in the small body but terrible quality although, I admit, it feels solid. I would not recommend this unit at all. If you can live with a projector that is a size of 13" laptop instead of pocket size one, I recommend Casio XJ-A256 3000 Lumens WXGA DLP Projector with USB and Wireless Projector or Epson PowerLite 1776W Widescreen Business Projector (WXGA Resolution 1280x800) (V11H476020). These are 'real' projectors, not compromising brightness or features at all. 3000 lumens is high for regular projectors you can use it in lighted room no problem and they will probably last many years. If they are too big or too pricy for your need, I would suggest View Sonic series, such as View Sonic PLED-W200 WXGA Front Projector, 300 Inches Black or ViewSonic PLED-W500 80-Inch 720p Front Projector (Black). View Sonic PLED-W200 WXGA is a direct competitor of Optoma PK320 Pico Pocket Projector, but it's much brighter and let's be honest, View Sonic is much more established (trustworthy) brand. Brand name really matters IMHO. I ended up buying a Epson PowerLite 1776W Widescreen Business Projector (WXGA Resolution 1280x800) (V11H476020). Ass-kicking performance! No comparison!

So I just purchased this item a couple of days ago, and I was concerned about 2 things:

1/ The brightness. 100 lumens is nothing compared to the full-size projectors that are in the 3,000 lumens range, so I was really worried that the room would have to be pitch black in order to make anything out. I was wrong I got an EXCELLENT picture, even in my living room, with several light sources present. The clarity was perfect too!

2/ The noise the fan generates when connected to a power source. I read that it can be deafening at times, but that's rubbish. I barely noticed the sound, and it's nothing more than you'd get with a typical laptop anyway (which you're skipping by storing stuff directly on the SD card).

pros:

great scanner for the price, once you finally have all your frequencies saved it works well. very durable unit that will give you years of use will little to no trouble. allows 25 frequencies off your choice to be stored. you can store 100 if you are saving in a particular band of frequency's, IE 2 meter or police band. green screen is easy on the eyes.

cons:

by far the highway patrol warning feature. when the unit is turned on it emits a very loud beep 3 times as it tests the alert feature. i really wish this could be disabled, after the unit has tested you can mute the alert but it only lasts until the scanner is shut off. it does not have alpha numeric labeling like the new scanners on the market do, an example would be instead of 155.5950 it you could make it say duluth pd.

if you don't need 11m citizens band coverage the bct-350x series scanner will work well for less. they don't have the alert feature so you don't deaf when turning the scanner on. if you are going to be using this in your vehicle make sure you check state laws as most do not allow scanner in vehicles unless you are a ham. also the included dipole window antenna is useless. a cheap scanner 2m antenna from radio shack will really increase the performance and makes a worthwhile purchase, if using as a base antenna a simple long wire antenna can be made or a discone antenna can be used. the higher the better and outside makes a big difference.

This is the first bear tracker I have seen that did not come set up for 12 volt.(And, I was not informed of this by the seller.) I had to buy a converter. For the first week I used it, it never alerted at all. Then after one week it stopped working altogether. I will never buy used electronic items through Amazon again. I tried, unsuccessfully, to get some kind of return label for this item. It is currently sitting in my garage.

Toshiba e330 Pocket PC Handheld

Over the past two years, I've used iPAQs, Jornadas, and most recently the Audiovox Maestro Pocket PC. The Toshiba e330 outperforms them all as far as I'm concerned.

First, the e330 is small, thin, and ultra light. It has the same form-factor as the e310, but with some noteworthy enhancements. Most notably, the e330 has the new 300MHz XScale Processor from Intel. Although the individual programs don't seem much affected by the increased speed, when you're using multiple programs, you can really tell a difference in performance. The e330 also has 64MB of RAM, giving you more room for programs, games, files, etc. The scroll-wheel on the upper left-hand side of the unit makes flipping through web pages and eBooks a one-handed affair. Last, but certainly not least, the e330 has the MediaQ video chip. This not only makes on-screen animation less jerky, but also makes writing on the screen appear without a lag.

I highly recommend the e330 Pocket PC from Toshiba. Five stars without question.

I absolutely love this Toshiba Pocket PC. I had been a Compaq IPAQ user over the past 2 years since dumping the Palm OS and thought I would be an IPAQ user forever. That is until I first saw the new Toshiba e330.

My Toshiba Pocket PC e330 has the latest Intel XScale processor running at 300MHz with 64MB of RAM, Pocket PC 2002 OS and the familiar tools like Word, Excel, Outlook and Media Player. The device also has a built-in Secure Digital (SD) media slot for additional storage space. I've used my SD card to backup my PDA as well as a holding place for my MP3. The built in Media Player makes this a great portable MP3 player.

I bought this unit about 2 years ago and love the features it has. Unfortunately some days the battery and the unit works fine, the next day it loses the entire battery and the unit is completely dead with no data left. Basically on good days the unit uses about 10% battery life, on bad days the entire battery will go all at once.

Further research has shown all the Toshiba PDA's suffer from the same problem. Never will I buy one from Toshiba again.

I bought the e330 and about 25 days later, the unit refused to turn on. The battery had been FULLY charged. I had noticed the unit started to shutdown by itself a few days prior. Eventually it just refused to turn on. I had babied the e330 since day one and tried to give PDAs a chance, but I went back to a notepad and pen. It only cost me $1 max.

The e330 did offer decent screen quality, fast operating speed, and worked fairly well limited as it may be. It played videos very nicely but I wasn't too happy with this power-on failure.

It isn't the latest and greatest, but you get good value for your money. If you can live without WiFi and Bluetooth this is the way to go. The battery life is enough for about six hours of hard use. There are a few recommendations that I have, upgrade to ActiveSync 3.7 and do a soft reset before syncing. Also, get a 256M SD card for backups and possibly music. If you're into music headphones are a must and download a copy WinamPAQ, which is a freeware WinAmp for pocket PC. For software development either get Visual Studio .Net ($), eMbedded Visual Basic (free) or eMbedded Visual C++ (free). SQL Server CE is also available for free.

Transcend 16GB SSD, 2.5- Inch, IDE, SLC

I bought this SSD for an 7 or 8 year old 'project notebook' that someone gave me a little over a year ago. I call it a 'project notebook' because it's not something that I need day to day, but it's something that I get to run Linux on that I add various improvements and tweaks over time to see what it can do. Before installing this SSD, I was running Ubuntu 9.04 on a 7200 rpm traditional hard drive with 512 MB of RAM. After installing the SSD, I decided to go with the 9.04 version of Xubuntu, and witnessed a big improvement in load times, but nothing overly dramatic. I think the PIII processor and slower bus hold the system back slightly, but I would definitely describe the system as having more "snap". AbiWord and The Gimp both open in a second or two, OpenOffice's word processor definitely opens far faster than the OS X version that I run on my Mac's (but it has always been slow to load on OS X). The only 'apples to apples' comparison that I have is that Xubuntu runs at the same or slighter faster performance than the same type of configuration running in a virtual machine on either my MacBook or XP-based Dell notebook so as far as I am concerned it has brought my 'project notebook' up to par with modern system for *basic* computing (web, email, word processing). I have not noticed any battery improvements to date, but the machine is whisper quiet at least until the fan kicks on (which is not as often).

One last note, my 'project system' is a Dell Latitude C510 which I only bring up to explain that the mounting holes on this drive are on the reverse side of traditional HDD's that I have had in this system. This is only significant if you are mounting this in a notebook that has you secure the drive to a caddy-type door as Dell and Compaq does basically the drive mounts upside down in this configuration and in my case would not make contact with the connector inside the system. I had to forgo mounting the drive to the door and just pushed the drive into the system until I could feed it make contact with the connector inside (hopefully I never need to take it out!).

Basically, if you can overlook the price and don't have needs for large amounts of space on your system, I would say that this drive was a good investment for an older system. Most older notebooks typically have 20-30 GB PATA drives in them that run at 4200 rpm, and you are likely to see a large jump in performance with this in your system if making that upgrade.

This is a great boot drive for an older Mac (pre-sata) like a mac mini or ibook, though I'm using it as the boot drive for my first generation macbook where it is installed in the optical bay (pata-pata caddy) as I write this review (tip: you must disable smart sleep for this configuration to work).

I bought it new and the quality is great.

Speed is OK compared to the current generation of SSDs, though it is a vast improvement over a hard disk drive and I am thoroughly pleased with how snappy my laptop has become. I have had no problems after several weeks of use. With a minor bit of application and feature trimming during OSX installation, 16GB ends up being just right for a general purpose laptop that is used mostly for email and websurfing, and at this size SLC is a must for Mac OSX since it doesn't support TRIM.

Though I have seen mixed messages regarding the need for TRIM when running OSX, the fact that this is SLC and not MLC should give great peace of mind. I have seen many, many reports of MLC SSDs run without TRIM where performance goes from blistering fast to molassas over a period of months.

HP® iPAQ 211 Enterprise Handheld PDA, 624 MHz, 4 inch TFT, 128 MB SDRAM, Black

My previous PDA was a 4 + year old Palm TX, so this review will largely focus on comparisons between that device and the HP 211.

General Observations:

A bit bigger and somewhat heavier than the Palm.

Seems well constructed and is nice-looking. I notice many reviewers rave about the screen, but to me it didn't seem noticeably better than the Palm. I didn't care for the case that came with it. The Palm had a cover over the screen that could easily be flipped open or shut and left me with something still slim enough to carry in a shirt pocket. The 211 came with a very close fitting case from which it cannot be easily extracted. It is nicer looking, but I lost the stylus the first day, due to the way you have to hold the PDA and pull on it to extract it. I have since replaced this with a Boxwave cover with magnetic clasp. But too bulky and heavy now to carry in my shirt.

Faults:

transition from portrait to landscape mode is slower than the Palm. You have to hold a button down for a few seconds, whereas the Palm only needed a single tap on an icon.

Documents are much slower to open or close than in the Palm. Also the Palm would remember my location when I closed a doc. The 211 always opens it at the beginning; so for long documents, it is a pain to find where you left off. Also in the palm, I could put book marks to easily find important sections in a long document; can't do that with the 211.

In the Solitaire game, which I play a lot, the cards seem a bit smaller and less distinct than on the Palm.

On the Palm, I could encrypt a single note; handy for storing credit card numbers and so on. Can't do that on the 211, although you can lock the entire device. This is a nuisance, so I had to figure out an alternative method of securing that type of information.

On the Palm, if I want to do a picture slide show, the orientation changed automatically as needed for each picture. The 211 doesn't do that, so if you start in landscape mode and come to a portrait-type picture, it will be displayed quite small. Also, the device doesn't seem to recognize that it's being used during a slide show, so it turns off after whatever time limit you have set for auto-off. Then you have to turn it back on, navigate back to the pics, find your spot again, etc.

Good Stuff:

Love the chime for calendar reminders. Pleasant sound and gradually gets louder. I use this now for my alarm clock, as it is not jarring to wake up to like a typical alarm clock.

Voice recorder. The Palm didn't have one. However, you have to hold the mike pretty close to your mouth if you want a decent recording. This wouldn't work out well if you wanted to record a meeting.

Game "Bubble Breaker." A screen full of different colored bubbles. Find 2 or more touching and double tap to remove them. The remaining bubbles above drop down. Get larger groups of same color bubbles together before removing and increase your score.

Removable battery. But the Palm battery (not removable) gave very good service the entire time I had it.

Voice recorder. I mention this twice because of a really nifty feature: you can append a voice recording to a note. This can be very useful, for example: I see a recipe I like but don't want to type the whole thing into my PDA. I can type a very short note, like "chicken pie" and then record the recipe as an attachment to that note. So later, I just look up "chicken pie" and then listen to the recipe.

I will not comment on features like the wireless, memory cards and so on, as others have done so more ably than I.

Then use your TV remote to select the video source. It's either HDMI 1 or HDMI 2. Then open up a video or Netflix on your computer. You should see a window pop up on your TV and you can move it around using your mouse pad. I'm very excited that the sound worked great too. My Mac is a 2009 model. OfficeRunner Wireless Headset

I am running Toktumi on a Mac with Snow Leopard.

I started off with the Plantronics Wireless Headset, connected via USB cable to the computer.

The sound quality was so poor on the Plantronics that I tried the Sennheiser. The Sennheiser is a far superior product to Plantronics:

Sennheiser has a better footprint on the desktop,and is more aesthetically pleasing

It is easier to see when it is on and connected

There are more options in terms of different broadcast channels

More options to control mic and ear piece volume

It is more comfortable to wear

Most importantly, the Sound quality is superior. I can hear what people are saying MUCH more easily with Sennheiser than I could with Plantronics.

This is definitely worth the price.

I've been using this headset now for about a year. I absolutely LOVE it! Finally something that is aesthetically appealing and works as well as it looks. Fantastic comfort and sound quality. I got it with the lifter and am very glad that I did. The only complaint I have is that once or twice a month I will need to re-sync he headset by disconnecting the power cord and the usb for about 10 seconds and then reconnecting. I can certainly live with it given how well it works for the phone and also with the computer as a Microphone for training applications and the like. Aewsome Awesome Awesome. And did I mention Awesome! I didn't even get this through Amazon but am a frequent Amazon shopper. I thought that everyone here should now this isa great product. (And no, I don't own stock) :-)

Our receptionists have been using headsets for about 5 years and they wireless ones have really allowed them to be more productive. We have used the Plantronics CS55 and CS70 and were happy with those devices because we had never really tried anything else in the wireless family. Absolutely crystal clear. The headset is lighter weight and the over the head band is actually comfortable enough to wear for several hours at a time. The plantronics over the head bands are not.

All the rest that make this the best wireless headset. In this day an time we expect functionality and appearance to both be high quality. The Officerunner is an excellent looking headset that is very contemporary in its style and color. The base is even unique and trendy looking, which means Sennheiser cares about all aspects of the device. Range is excellent, but honestly the one feature that if you can get 200ft then who cares that is enough. We don't have enough building to test the max range. Ease of setup. This is the first model I have ever taken out of the box, charged up and just started using it. No adjustments needed to be made at all. Our Administrative Assistant using this headset is very excited and pleased with it. This will be the headset for our company moving forward.

I use Skype exclusively. This phone/headset works with a pc or with an analog phone system. If you are going to use it with an analog phone system you will most likely need the optional lifter. I ordered the Plantronics CS50-USB first and was very disappointed. It had the usual background noise associated with cheaper wireless devices. Call me crazy, but I don't want to sound like I'm on an 80's cordless phone with the antenna not extended. The Sennheiser looks cool, sounds great on both ends and has incredible range. Don't even think about bluetooth unless everything you need is 10 feet from your desk. Here is the bad news. If you use Skype exclusively, it has a major flaw. You can't accept an incoming call from the headset if someone is calling your Skype phone number. It does work if someone calls your Skype account(Skype to Skype). However, if you purchased a phone number through Skype and someone calls you at your phone number, you have to run to your pc to take it. It's a real shame because the voice quality and range is the best. Of course the Plantronics was able to take the call but the voice quality wasn't any good. I called both headsets.com and Sennheiser. Headsets.com wasn't even aware of the issue. Sennheiser was aware of it but didn't seem like they were interested in doing anything about it. The odd thing is that you can accept a call from the headset if someone does a Skype to Skype. I didn't realize there was a difference between accepting a Skype to Skype or someone calling your Skype phone number, because either way a pop up comes up on your pc notifying you of an incoming call. It would seem that this issue could be addressed with a software update. Anyway, if I wasn't using Skype I might have a more favorable review.

I've been using wireless headsets since they first became available and have experience of several of the Plantronics and GN Netcom models. This one cost me a little more but is by far the best performing wireless headset so far, for several reasons.

1) The microphone is superb quality and I actually sound better at the other end of the phone line.

2) The noise-canceling feature works very effectively, so that my callers think I'm alone in my office when I'm really working in a busy/noisy office environment.

3) The speaker is very clear and I reckon I can hear people's voices more clearly than I could with my old Plantronics CS55.

4) The practical wireless range in use is by far the longest I've found. I can continue calls and walk my entire office building as I go get information and conclude my business in one call. I once continued a call in the coffee shop next door but that is just posing. Never again!

5) It's more comfortable to wear than my previous headset.

6) I use the headset with my landline and with my PC. The sound quality then becomes even more awesome. I used the headset to record myself reading from my book. An audio professional told me he thought I was in a studio. Actually, I was sat at my desk and in the next room there were people talking.

rooCASE Netbook Carrying Bag for Acer Aspire One AO722-BZ 11.6-Inch HD Netbook - Classic Series Bla

Overall I like this bag. The zippers track well. There aren't a bunch of loose threads on the stitching. The outter pocket is padded and the main netbook pocket is padded. I would have liked to see the inner pockets have some sort of padding though. These are the pockets that live inside the main area where the netbook goes. Every laptop bag I own pads these pockets to prevent objects scratching your laptop while being carried in the bag. These are just really thin nylon.

It holds the netbook nicely in place with an elastic strap, and has padding all around the bottom and sides. The shoulder strap that is included will actually extend long enough to go over a shoulder. It fits my Acer One 11.6 but nothing else in that compartment. It has maybe half an inch of space on the side and thats it. Strangly there is a lot of room above the netbook, about an inch of space between the top of my netbook and the case. I would have rather seen this space used for something like a zippered pouch or something to hold pens, flash drives, headphones, business cards etc. I'm used to seeing that in laptop bags and this extra space would have been perfect for it.

My preferences aside, it is a well built bag offering more protection than a sleeve and avoided looking like a purse. The big outter pouch holds the power adapter and a medium sized mouse and has a little room left.

It's a great looking, well designed case. I'd say protection is plenty sufficient for my purposes, but don't plan to run over the bag with your car and have your netbook emerge unscathed. I really like it for the airplane because I can carry it inside of my airplane carry-on (usually a backpack), throw the backpack in the overhead container, and keep the RooCase at my seat with all my other small gadgets tucked in the side pockets. Good buy.

This is the first rooCASE I had purchased. I have purchased cases from other manufacturers but this one seems to have had just a bit more design and engineering attention than some of the others. It is durable and stylish...and well-padded. A restraint strap holds things securely. There is room in the main compartment for both a netbook and a small keyboard (sitting atop the computerI put a thin layer of foam between them to prevent scratching)...without cramping or "bending" the compartment that is perfect. In the outer pocket there is room for your mouse, a hub, a couple of usb cables and a few other useful items. The zippers are of very good quality and the shoulder strap is comfortable. I can carry everything I need for using my computer to a remote location, including an extension cord, in this bag without having it look "over-stuffed." Don't hesitate to purchase this sturdy case. The other bags I have purchased are also of good quality, but they always were bulging with the same amount of equipment and it worried me that some component I was carrying would be damaged by the compression. There is nothing astounding in the design of this bag, it is just well-styled, sturdy, well-planned and designed to carry a lot of gear without looking like it is carrying a lot of gear. I like it.

I have had mine for a year now. It is a must for the teacher on the go. I create emails, spreadsheets, memos, even final exams while listening to music. I have been very pleased with this little PC.

I use my computer as an entertainment center for things like watching movies from my couch. Wireless functionality is important to allow for relaxed viewing. When my wireless mouse and keyboard needed to be replaced, I replaced them with this single device that is the size of a remote. The product was immediately usable after plugging in the wireless adapter and works great. My big hands make the keys slightly difficult, but the keyboard is bigger than that of a flip phone.

One problem occurred that is so unthinkable that it made me laugh. The battery slot was missing a component, specifically the one that completes the circuit to allow for the device to be powered. This issue was too silly for me to go through the trouble of returning the product, so I shaped a piece of foil to allow for the current to flow. I am sure this was a rarity, but it certainly does not inspire confidence.

Overall, a good product and worth the reasonable price.

Item arrived quickly and worked as stated, but only worked a few hours before it died. Item was returned. I repalced it with another brand.

Worked for a few minutes, and then just stopped working. Junk. Unit is totally inoperative, although the blue light does work, but is not bright enough to be a night light and unit is not heavy enough to be a paperweight. So a total loss.

Lenovo Multimedia Remote with Keyboard N5901

I bought the Lenovo wireless keyboard to compliment my Dell Zino HD as a hometheater pc. I even waited to set up the Zino HD until this keyboard arrived.

What I do Like:

The size is right. Installing was a complete breeze. No drivers required. Worked right out of the box on Windows 7. Keys on the keyboard are quick and responsive (if you're pushing the right one). It aesthetically compliments the Zino HD with the Tangerine lid flawlessly.

What I don't Like:

While the size maybe right the weight of it is not. It's very light and it almost gives it the feeling of "cheap." The scrolling ball for the mouse is ultra sensitive to the touch. While the device is light enough for one hand, the mouse feature makes it feel like a two handed job when resizing a webpage or moving things around. It would be much better if the Left Click and right click buttons were on the back of the device, like a trigger and or if the mouse scroll ball could be tapped to execute as well.

For crying out loud, if you're going to push it for what I know everyone is purchasing for, "a home theater PC," the keyboard should have been backlit. Who can search hulu in a dark room with this device? I found myself continuously using the on the screen keyboard because I couldn't see in low light situations. The key buttons have a slight beveled feel and aren't raised, which makes it a little harder to type. I have small hands, so I know the fat fingered person might want to skip this one. There are no function keys, (F1,etc...) at least as far as I can tell. I had to plug in another keyboard to access the F12 feature of my computer. Picks up fingerprints easy on the gloss part of the finish.

Overall, it's just "OK." I wouldn't spend $60 on it, so I'm glad I got it for half price. If they added backlight (this would give it a little extra weight, thatI think it needs it to be more comfortable in your hand), moved the mouse buttons to underneath, and increased the tension a bit on the mouse scoll ball that so it doesn't feel so loose, it could be a real gem.

This might work better in a conference room for a light presentation type setup because you will have some level of extra light to see it. The concept is perfect for Boxee, Hulu Desktop, etc...

I bought the Lenovo mini keyboard/mouse to use as a remote with my HTPC, after a few days of use here is what I have decided.....

First of all the tracking ball is too light on its feet. If you try to operate it with one hand you end up moving the mouse while attempting to click the button. Which moves me to my next complaint; as others have mentioned, the left/right click buttons should have been placed underneath for the nice video game "trigger" functionality that we all love so much. Also the unit is extremely light, which makes it feel like a kids play toy.

My biggest problem is the range. I have my computer mounted behind an LCD on the wall and sitting about seven feet away I am constantly fighting for signal. To make matters worse the keys are tiny and the unit is not back lit, so navigating in a dark room is pretty much impossible.

Despite my complaints, there really is not much else out there at this price point. I think I may take the advise of another review and just use my Iphone with the logitech app, which is far from perfect, but it is free. . Note: for 30 dollars the lenovo unit is fine, not worth 60 dollars though, wait for V2 with back-lighting and trigger mouse and bluetooth for added range.

I am also considering purchasing the Logitech dinovo mini, which runs about $120, or the gyration air remote

I bought one of these for my HTPC to replace a larger wireless keyboard/trackpad combo that was getting in the way. First off, the form factor is fantastic. It fits perfectly into your hand and, when it works, makes for easy navigation of menus and the web. That said, "when it works" is the issue. I have a small media room and sit about 6 feet from the entertainment center containing my TV and HTPC, and at that range I am constantly fighting with this thing to get my commands in. The mouse pointer lags or stalls completely and key presses are missed repeatedly. If I walk over next to the computer, it works fine, but since the whole point was to control the HTPC from my easy chair, that's mission failure.

I'm surprised with the reviews here. I normally don't leave them, but I figured I'd try to set the record straight about this remote. It's awesome. It's a keyboard and mouse IN ONE HAND! Who the heck is complaining here? For what it is, it works flawlessly. Maybe it's just me, but the only alternatives I see are a FULLSIZE KEYBOARD AND MOUSE. Am I crazy here? I love this thing, and was honestly surprised with how cheap it is (I'm used to buying Harmony remotes, which aren't the cheapest).

As I said, I love this thing, and was definitely glad to replace my Logitech S 510 wireless keyboard/mouse combo.

Unfortunately we're not getting the desired charge out of this battery...If we're taking a trip we "need" the vehicle charger in place. With the GPS on it'll drain the battery in an hour or so. Regular talk time is not much better...any usage will drain this within three hours or so.

eForCity Hotsync & Charging USB Cable for HP iPAQ

The two connectors I had for my iPaq h1945, aka h1940 (one cable for the PC connection, another for charging alone) started messing up (specifically the metal catches on the sides got bent -be careful about this as it can happen with any of these, but it did take some years for it to happen to me.) One started making my PDA produce a buzzing noise if I didn't plug it in just right, which is obviously more than a little bit worrying, so that one is in the trash now since I want my PDA to continue to last for a long time yet. I ordered this because it's the only one not at a ridiculous price. One little oddity though. The part labeled "up" goes down! It took me a little while to figure out why it wasn't going in and just as I got worried it was the wrong thing I tried it the other way and was surprised to see it work.

Pros:

Snug fit probably won't mess up as easily over time assuming it doesn't break the interface in the PDA...

Rolls up into something more convient that the ordinary to carry around.

Universal compatibility with charging systems since it's plain USB (you can buy adapters to plug into a wall or car -in fact, there are systems that can provide power to a USB device via a rechargable battery and this works with those as well as any adapter.)

Great price! Well, actually, it feels to me like it is priced at what its worth, but for some reason the usual price is around $20 or so which is ridiculous for just a charger/sync cable...

Cons:

Cable could be a little longer. I like to leave my PDA charging on a dresser, but I'm going to have to use an extention cord just to do this now.

USB ONLY. You can't plug in the standard charger that comes with the PDA for power. This wouldn't be so bad, but USB only allows up to 500mA per bus. I don't know exactly how much power the PDA uses while running, but it seems to be enough that you don't really get much if any of a charge while plugged into USB whereas the charger provides 2A of power so it easily lets the PDA run purely off of external power AND charge at the same time. But then I'm not entirely certain it can't still do this as the PDA surely can't use all of 500mA or its little 940mAh batter wouldn't last very long at all...

I got this for my iPaq hx2795 and it works good for transferring files. but it needs activesync and it doesn't charge. it is the same speed as the dock that came with the Pocket PC. the main advantage over the dock is it is more portable, it is 3 feet long. I was hoping that it could be used without activesync but you can't, and that it was faster then the dock but it's not, and that it will charge my PPC but it doesn't.

The cable works fine, and the price is excellent. The only reason I did not give this a 5th star is that I ordered 15 of these and they each arrived 3 ft -not the 5 ft as detailed in the technical specifications. Since our field sales people will be using these for customer presentations, the extra 2 ft would have been really helpful. But, we are in a time crunch and need to work with what we have in hand. Overall, this is a decent cable at a great price.

SANOXY Unlocked 3G MiFi GSM Mobile Router Hotspot WiFi Wireless N Mobile Broadband Router with SIM

Pretty disappointed in this. First of all, it seems like they sent me a defective unit that had already been returned by someone else. The router name originally showed up as "3G Router" but after I did a hard reset, the name spontaneously changed to "DANONE". I never did anything to rename it. It's as though some previous owner had already messed around with the configuration.

At any rate, I was never able to reach the Internet even though I could see the router in my list of available networks and could connect to it. I tried all the suggestions from the Sanoxy website FAQs but still was unable to resolve the problem using either SIM. Contacting the seller for technical support was futile. The contact phone number goes to an IVR menu and every option I selected sent me to a fax machine. My emails went unanswered. I can't say I'd recommend this, at least not for an AT&T or T-Mobile SIM. Maybe it works better for other carriers? Hope you have better luck than I did.

P.S. One other item of note: some of the dropdown menus in the configuration application do not work with IE9 also very frustrating. You'll have better luck with Firefox or Chrome.

UPDATE: I did end up returning this using Amazon's return authorization process. Once I was able to make contact with the seller (as a result of writing an unfavorable seller review), they were very good about refunding the purchase price. They also explained that the "DANONE" router name pertained to the name the units are sold under in China entirely plausible I guess. I'm still debating whether to take a chance on a replacement though. However the vendor has volunteered to test the unit before sending it out again. I've updated my overall rating based on the seller's good faith efforts to resolve the situation. I'll update this again if I end up reordering.

This was the worst experience I've had with a product bought on amazon.

At the beginning, the wi-fi settings go back to default. Now the product even connected via LAN, does not enable DHCP.

The website did not specify only a particular type of sim card (the ones with larger circuit area) can work with device. The newer generation sim cards that can be cut to become a microsim is not.
