Acer Iconia Tab A100-07u16u 7-Inch Tablet (16GB)

This is my third Android tablet. My first was a very low budget tablet, the Archos 7 Home Tablet, the second was the Archos 70 Internet Tablet. I was looking for a tablet with more features, most importantly a rear camera and a GPS, but I didn't want to spend $600.

When I rate anything, I rate it based on what is being promised vs what has been delivered. So although I may mention cons in this review, it still scores a perfect rating because those cons are disclosed up front and I wasn't hit with any curve balls.

cons:

-No kick stand. I loved this about my first two tablets and I missed it on day 2 with this tablet.

-Short battery life. I am used to a 7 hour battery life and this tablet cuts 2 hours off of that.

-New OS version brings some apps not being ready. Not the device's fault, but it is still a bummer to see a Force Close.

pros:

-Honeycomb. My other two tablets were 1.5 and 2.2, so this is an amazing experience in comparison

-Price. This is an AMAZING deal considering it is competitively priced but has so many features that you would expect from a premium tablet

-GPS, gyrosensor, light sensor, rear camera, front camera, 1ghz dual core processor, 1 gb ram

-WiFi is super powerful in comparison to my other tablets.

-Very fast and responsive

Screen:

I wish the light sensor would kick it to full brightness more often, but I just turned the auto off and keep it at 50% brightness. The screen doesn't have the best viewing angles, but that is typical with the screen type. However, the display is super sharp and looks great!

WiFi:

When sitting at my desk, I was at maybe 5% reception for WiFi on my old tablet and I often dropped the connection depending on where it was sitting on my desk. With this tablet, I am about 50% reception and I haven't dropped yet. This WiFi is MUCH better than what I have seen before in other tablets.

Battery:

This tablet isn't for everyone because of the battery life. On travel days, it is really going to get to me. I plan on buying a battery charger to juice it up on heavy usage days, but I don't think I will hit empty that often.

Overall, if you want a 7" Android tablet that gives a great experience, this is for you. I can't stress how happy I am with my purchase and I think I will be sticking with this tablet for a while.

It's been a while since this review and there have been a lot of changes since then. Earlier this month, ICS Android 4.0 was released to the device. The system does appear to be snappier after the update, but there has not been an impact to battery life. Unlike when HC was a new OS, I have not had a single app that doesn't run correctly on ICS, so the transition was a lot smoother.

I'm very happy with this purchase. My advice is to read all the reviews, because they are very informative and may point out something that for you is a deal breaker or shows it's a must have. For me, it's the latter. I teach dance and am a musician, and I actually first looked at this product to replace a lost ipod nano (!). Compared to the ipod, this is an entirely different creature; it's obviously more like an ipad. However, one of the best things, compared to the "i" products, is that the memory is upgradeable. Another bonus: the price point is a heck of a lot lower, but this is a quality device.

If you're familiar with Android (I have an HTC Droid Incredible), it's great to have the real Android market open to you (and not some pared down version beware of imitation "Android" devices!), even though I've found a few apps that have issues (not everybody plays nicely with Honeycomb). The video quality is great, although you'll quickly learn to lock the screen so the image doesn't keep shifting from portrait to landscape if you tilt the unit slightly. The speaker quality is fine for average use. After three weeks, I'm still fighting with the keyboard more than I'd like; it's very sensitive and easy to hit carriage return without meaning to.

I have to admit, the battery life is disappointing, especially when my ipad user friends brag about their toys, but there are many things you can do to improve it:

+ set screen brightness and timeout to lower than defaults

+ I've found that having open mail accounts takes a lot of energy. I set them up, but when I turned off the sync, my battery life improved tons. I can reactivate the sync to use them, but I get mail on my phone and computer. Do I really need it on the tablet too?

+ I do use a task killer, and I set it on SAFE (as opposed to aggressive) and to kill apps automatically every half hour. Lots of apps (weather, news feeds, facebook, even clocks) check in with the web regularly.

As far as I can tell, the big cons are the battery issues. Let's face it, 4-5 hours is short. I get more use, because of a light usage pattern, but it can go down pretty rapidly as I do use it. The guy on a total rant in his review regarding the charger unit does have a point in this day and age of "folding" plugs, and charger cords doubling as USB connectors, this is not a power supply you can throw easily in a bag. It's a bummer. And it's an even bigger bummer you can't currently {ar ar ar} get a car charger. [BEWARE of USB car chargers advertised on Amazon as working for this unit; you cannot charge via USB, A100s only power up via the proprietary Acer plug. I asked at Radio Shack, it's an Acer thing...] So, it's not too much fun to have to travel with your charger. Quite a few reviewers mention the screen as a problem. While it does have some angle-related limitations, it's easy to optimize the angle and I'm using it in class, hand-held, in varied lighting conditions.

Finally, the Poetic case Poetic(TM) Slimbook Leather Case for Acer Iconia Tab A100 7-Inch Android Tablet Wi-Fi (Black) is a useful and economic accessory I highly recommend.

My husband bought an 8GB on a Black Friday special and is mostly happy with his purchase, except for battery life. He paid $199.

I traded in this device. I could not get around the horrible battery life. For all the cool things it does, no battery life and such a horrible, bulky charger (and no car option) I just realized I wasn't really using the unit. I've ordered a Google Nexus 7: lower price point, updated Android, and a battery that performs a whole lot better.

I have 2 tablet PC, IBM X60Tablet and Fujitsu p1610. One is 13 inch so it's not really UMPC. Fujitsu is 9 inch, but since it's convertible (has the keyboard with monitor turning), it's thick and bulky. Also battery last only for 2 hrs on Fujitsu. I wanted a thinner smaller device that I can carry to local coffee shop and browse internet.

Acer Iconia A100 is perfect because not only it'll be easier to carry around, but has full HDMI output so that I can use it on my bigscreen TV as a media player.

Wish list(not the bad list for I have not found anything bad yet).

1.gets bit warm when I'm holding-it could be heat from my hand.

2.Better battery life. It last about 5 hrs, but with all the option like GPS, Bluetooth, and CPU power, Apple iPad would have last similar 5hrs, so not so surprising.

3.Home button is kinda sensitive and sometimes it gets triggered while using the tablet

4.Video recording is not great under low light.

5.USB Host I don't think I cannot connect USB card reader to read my Compact Flash cards

6.On screen keyboard is bit smaller than iPad's when in portrait mode... But iPad is 10 inch.. so not really tablet's fault.

7. Would not play Netflix. I can access up to the screen where I can select the movie, but would not play. I think there only a few device that play Netflix, so hopefully Netflix will release new version of the app. The twick with one of the file you found on internet does not work for me...

We have Apple iPad which belongs to my wife and the kids, and I don't get to play with it hardly....: It has amazing screen, but it's 10 inch and way too big for me to carry around anyway, and NO GPS and NO Flash.

Overall I'm very pleased with the purchase and have been carrying with me pretty much anywhere I go it actually fits in my short's and dress pants pocket... but probably not my jean pocket...

"Inside this tablet, you'll find basically the same guts as in every other current android tablet, from 7" to 10". It's running the latest and greatest release, which makes allowances for smaller tablets, so the awkwardness of the 7" Galaxy Tab is gone. The Tegra2 processor and graphics mean it's just as fast as the big boys. Unfortunately, all this hardware and software goodness has been paired with an inexcusably bad screen. The viewing angles are incredibly limited. If you hold it in portrait mode, the angles are so bad that you can't look at the whole screen without part of it being a bit color-shifted. If you hold it in landscape, with the home button to the right, and tilt it back a few degrees, you get a perfect display, but that's literally the only position in which the screen looks nice.

I would not recommend this product to anyone, and I would not buy it again."

So the screen isn't IPS it isn't advertised as such and given that a tablet is meant for personal viewing as opposed to group viewing off angles the viewing is perfectly fine, as the critic notes above. The screen resolution at 1024x600 is excellent and colors are vivid and crisp.

Great device well built, super fast, feels good in the hand and Honeycomb 3.2 is so slick compared to either Froyo or iOS makes our iPad seem so last year and much though we are devoted to our Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Wifi the Acer Iconia A100/Honeycomb is in a different stratosphere.

Kindle app now works if you download version 2 version 3.01 on Market crashes at this time but I have tested this and it works great

I just bought this great little tablet and I love it. I have been using an iPad for about a year and got so fed up with no flash and the fact that you have to have iTunes on you computer. Now I can put what I want in my tablet without having to get Steve Jobs permission. The screen resolution is beautiful, the touch control is very responsive, and the processor is really fast. I gave the iPad away, gone out of here, history.

The first thing the A100 asks you to do is connect with your WiFi. Connection went perfect the first time without any trouble, unlike so many personal WiFi devices on the market. It comes in a 10" model as well but I like the 7" format better for my needs. The 10" size like the iPad was OK but each to his own.

Acer is a well known brand and I have been using Acer for some time now. I have an Acer laptop and an Acer desktop PC. I have never had any problems with either of them.

iGadgitz Pink EVA Travel Hard Case Cover Sleeve for Amazon Kindle Touch & Paperwhite Wi-Fi 6" E Ink

I like to keep my kindle touch naked when reading it. I like how light and thin it is. I wanted a cover that would keep it safe when not in use. I tend to be a bit rough on my kindles (this is my third). I take them everywhere and leave them on sofa's and coffee tables frequently. I needed something that would prevent me having to use the protection plan should someone accidently put something on it or sit on it O_o. This item was perfect. The price was even better. I love it. Although I do imagine it could be difficult to clean should it get dirty (but I'm not a messy person so I don't worry about that).

It does have a plastic smell when you first get it. Air it out and it's fine. Since I don't read with it on my kindle it has not been a problem at all. I just sprayed a bit of Fabreeze on it and moved on.

Here is my story:

I ordered the pink kindle cover on January 4th 2012. I ordered the item using my Amazon Prime membership (two day delivery) which assured me I would receive the cover by January 7th. When Saturday arrived and I still had not received an email confirming shipment (or the product) I decided to investigate. My kindle cover was not scheduled to arrive until January 11th. I found this troubling since Amazon was advertising that were I to order the kindle cover that day (using next day service), I would be guaranteed delivery by January 9th. Seriously? I could order it on a Saturday evening and get it monday morning? I ordered mine on a Wednesday and apparently was not going to get it until the next Wednesday (using TWO DAY DELIVERY). Naturally this upset me. I sent an email to iGadgitz at 2:33pm on January 7th wanting to know why my item was not going to arrive until the 11th when I'd ordered it on the 4th. I did not receive a reply until January 9th in which they blamed shipment on Amazon. They did not offer any assistance or offer to correct the issue in any way.

So my word of advice is this: If you are getting a great price as I did (under $6), go for it but don't expect prompt delivery or effective customer service. The product is wonderful. It's a shame that the company is run so badly. Were it not for the service I would recommend every body to get this. It is perfect for those of us who like to read the kindle without anything on it.

Hewlett Packard Jornada 565

Let me say this about the HP Jornada 565, "HP's Pocket PC's still need refining"

The good about this Pocket PC

-Fast OS and easy useability when first powered up

-Improved design of the flashcard slot versus its predecessors. No more flimsy hinge cover.

-From the industrial designer's perspective, very good button layout, spacious for easy navigating, except still confused on the functioning of the button below the four-way scroll keypad

-Nice side rubber molding for improved grip

-Excellent screen resolution

The bad about this Pocket PC

-Lots of bugs

-If you set up your Activesync to your desktop and connect your handheld then your device name will be "Pocket_PC". If you change the device name, your Activesync won't recognize it and connect only as "Guest". Only way to fix it is to re-install Activesync.

-Activesync. After installing on my Windows 2000 and upgrading the Outlook to 2002, the settings for the Inbox syncing only showed up occasionally when clicked on.

-Avantgo server setup. After changing the device name, had to redo the whole setup procedure of establing servers on my network computer and the avantgo.com server just to get the device to sync up again with the website.

-Windows Media. When I changed the Audio & Video settings to play large dimensions in Audio and Video, it screwed up the application and now it comes up garbled every time I try to open it even after soft resetting.

-The volume control key button on the side doesn't adjust volume automatically. You have to open the volume control window first

-When using earphones, the volume is still very loud even at the lowest setting.

Overall, the HP 565 is a very good product. If HP can fix those software bugs, then it would get a higher rating. I haven't dropped my HP yet but looking at the thin front cover it has, it doesn't look like it'll survive the drop test and there is no warranty coverage for dropped HPs.

I thought for a second that I was going to have to reconfigure all of avantgo's server stuff, too, but all you have to do is click on avantgo in the active sync list, select properties, and enter your avantgo name and password. It will take off from there. Also, I didn't have to reinstall active sync to name it something besides pocket_pc. Maybe I got a later version.

Anyway, I like this jornada. I have had a hand spring visor and phillips velo and a rex in the past, this is the best by far. The built in apps are great, and it is also great for add in programs and games. The stylus is a bit whimpy. Overall I've been very happy.

I purchased a Handspring 1 1/2 years ago (OS) and decided to make the switch to a CE system. I am very pleased with the switch. I started with a Casio BE-300 but was disapointed in the programs available (programs need to be written especially for the BE-300) and the features that came with the unit. I went ahead and swallowed hard and spent the extra couple hundred to get what I really wanted and am very satisfied. More programs, Pocket Word, Pocket Outlook, etc. I had a hard time getting it to connect everytime but then went to the web site to get help and found that you needed to make sure that the unit was not in the cradle when you restarted windows on your descktop PC. Since I have gotten used to taking hte Jornada out of the cradle I have not had a problem.

Ever since I bought my 565 I have loved it. It has been my trusted companion. It also makes a supperior MP3 Player, as it syncs well with Windows Media Player on my PC. It also is the perfect medium to write letters (Pocket Word), Manage your money and investment (MS Money for PPC), The best universal remote(TV Remote), and a better note taker that a giant Tablet PC. And it has a wonderfull hard cover to protect the screen. Despite loving it so much, It is impossable to find parts for it in Canada. Since it is discontinued you can not get a replacement stylus, or assesories. And I've had to get the screen replaced once, and the second time is comming soon. And the dust is impossable to get out.

Small Fan & Mini-Air Conditioner: The Original Handy Cooler in Blue

Since there are controversial discussions if the handy cooler REALLY works, here's my video review of my take on this product. Verdict is, the handy cooler does work and it's a nicely implemented product. The weather here at Palm Springs is great for swamp coolers like this and it gives a nice kick if you freeze the filter. (Sorry about the background construction noise and the wind noise from handy cooler!)

I've had the handy cooler for just over a year now and so far I really like it. It's been lying under my bed for the whole winter, but now the heat is back and I've brought it back in action.

What I liked:

The design. Looks good. Feels good. I like the swivel vent head too.

Portability. I bring it around to classes, work and around home.

Performance. Cools like a charm.

Size and weight.

What I would like to see improved:

Rechargeable lithium battery option. The unit is not capable of recharging batteries. However, I recommend getting 4 rechargeable batteries, and charge them with battery docks. It'll cost you $40+ but will save you on the long run.

Longer cooling duration.

a longer USB cord!

It's a nice little fan with a twist, but be sure to stock up on batteries.

I'm in the Navy, therefore I sleep in a tiny, tiny, often hot space with no air circulation. I ordered this because there is only so much night-sweat and dude-funk one can take in this sort of environment. It just came in the other day, but it appears sufficient to cool a cramped, curtained, coffin-like enclosure! The noise at high-speed is a total non-issue; trust me, the engines drown it out completely. If you're ordering one of these for your sailor, I recommend the pink one. The guys who've seen it all want one, but nobody is going to steal something in pink.

Honestly, I wish it were less expensive, but the build quality is solid enough that I think it'll survive until I get back, and that's really all that counts.

Yes, this little puppy really does work as advertised. Just wet the sponge, turn the unit on, and point the air stream at your face.

Ahhhhhh...

The Handy Cooler appears to be well built. The fan is very quiet. You can put the unit on a desk or tabletop, and it will blow a nice stream of cool air at you.

I like the way you can rotate the air head ninety degrees, giving you greater flexibility in positioning the unit. I also like the little water bottle they give you, which holds two "recharges". Yes, they have figured out how much water you can add to keep cool without water dribbling from the unit. They figure you can go from thirty minutes to three hours on a "full" sponge, depending on your environment.

I have told the company that makes the Handy Cooler that they need to introduce a shoulder holster, so you can wear it around and use it hands-free. In the meantime, I am going to see if I can rig up some sort of shoulder sling or something that will suit this purpose.

At any rate, if you hate the heat, the Handy Cooler is the real deal -cool relief to go. HIGHLY recommended.

My only gripe, as another customer commented, is the high UPS shipping charge. A lower-cost USPS shipping option would be welcome...

And yes, I use NiMH rechargeable batteries, and they last for hours on a charge. Ahhhh...

We knew we were in trouble bringing an infant to Disney World and Miami Beach. We knew we had to keep her cool in the Florida heat or our vacation was over.

We bought x2 baby kits (mesh bag holder, flexible tube, & HCs). We used two handy coolers and baby kits the first day at DW but the batteries lasted for 5 hours on the first day and we only had x8(ENELOOPs). So we decided to run only one at a time and swap out batteries for a total of 10 hours run time on high. The sponge is a hassle to remove out of the mesh bag and wet it and then put back while constantly moving with our pack. With the heat the sponge dries in less than an hour. So we added a Frozen water bottle on top of the sponge that constantly wets the sponge and it melts and gives off really cold air from the melting bottle. When its melted we just drink it and replace it with a new frozen one from the ice cooler. This set up worked really great for out two week trip in Disney World and South Florida. Amazing product!

I bought this mini air conditioner for my office. The most important point was that it ran on USB so I could plug it on my computer and set it aside without worrying about batteries. I loved it so much I bought another one for my kids, and I got the home adapter with it. The air conditioner works better with the adapter it provides alot more airflow and cools better.

PROS: Very attractive design, nicely constructed, and feels very solid. The cooling performance is great for a small hand held unit like this, however not like the air conditioning you get from a car a/c... but maybe 70%. It uses water to cool the air like an evaporative air cooler. The hand strap design is really cool you hold the handy cooler like a handy cam. I like the analog speed control so you can adjust the level cooling you want. Works on batteries but I've only tried it once and it works just the same. You can buy extra filters to use different aromatherapy oils for each filter.

CONS: The vent of the fan isn't very big so don't rely on it to circulate air. To feel the cool air, you will pretty much have to position the vents towards yourself. You need to put water into the filter every 2 hours, but it will still work if you don't just without the cool air effect.

Otherwise, a great little mini air conditioner... that runs on batteries!

Verizon Wireless Motorola W385 with 1.3 Megapixel Camera Bluetooth Capable

This phone is a small brick. I have it since 2007 (5-and-a-half years). The black rubberized outside of it is now scratched and dull, and there is a small crack on its body. To say that it fell on concrete more than once would be an understatement. It also was in my pocket under rain, but the water damage indicator dot in the battery compartment is still white (no water damage). The voice is clear both ways. The default ring is loud. I had to change the battery once (BT51, 940mAh), it was just a few bucks on Amazon. It feels good in the pocket, does not drain the battery too much while on stand by.

Unfortunately, this is where its virtues end. Making phone calls is about the only thing that this phone does well (actually, I also use the alarm, it is convenient not to miss time to drop another quarter in the parking meter). You can receive text messages, but lack of a good keyboard makes it hard to write back more than one word. If you do not care about text (like me), or you are content to answer "NO" and "OK" for all your messages, you will not suffer. While this phone has a standard mini USB socket, it requires either a Motorola charger, or a special third party charger made to be compatible with Motorola. Many third party USB charges cannot charge this phone, the phone will display "unauthorized charger" message. This applies to both wall and car charges.

This phone has a camera, and over the years, I have accumulated several pictures. Eventually, I decided to transfer pictures from W385 phone to PC. At first, I naively thought that connecting this phone via USB cable to PC would allow me to transfer the pictures. No! I then found about a monstrous application from Motorola, "Motorola Mobile Phone Tools" (they actually sell this!). However, reading documentation revealed that W385 does not support file transfer via USB cable. So the "tools" can only sync contacts, useless to me. The phone can, however, transfer files via bluetooth to a compatible device. I then bought a bluetooth adapter, Motorola PC850 (under ten bucks), and downloaded drivers (but rather an entire application) for it. At first, I could not figure out how to pair the phone with PC, but then realized that after you install PC850 application (it will show up as blue bluetooth icon in system tray) you'd need:

1) Right click on that blue bluetooth icon and select "Add a Bluetooth Device"

2) Put your phone in "Discoverable" mode; that is, on your phone choose Menu -> Setting and Tools -> Bluetooth -> Settings -> Discovery Mode, change to "ON"

3) In the PC application, click next to find the phone; choose it, click next

3) Now to pair the phone, choose any four-digit number, enter it into "Bluetooth Security" field, click "Pair Now".

4) In your phone, a new field will pop-up, enter that same number, press OK

This did the trick and I was able to transfer the pictures. Unfortunately, date/time was lost, and I had to re-create them manually one-by-one. It seems that an easier way to transfer pictures is to attach them to a text message and send them to some other phone that supports file transfer to PC easily. I also found that the camera on W385 has soft focus. This was obvious when viewing pictures on a PC, but on the tiny phone screen, I could not tell.

While I will continue using this phone, I doubt I would recommend it at this day and age. Most people probably care more about being able to use generic USB charges, having better camera and easier file transfer. If, however, you want a simple phone that can take a lot of abuse, then yes, this is it.

Have only bought these NEW (not used or re-manufactured)but with very good results. Little harder to find recently but for

$50 or so to have bluetooth, camera, in a fairly rugged flip with good battery life isn't too bad. Don't expect to view pictures like you can on a big screen phone or textg like the slide out keyboard ones. Just a good solid phone.

This is the same model of the phone I own but it does not work like my previous W385. Texting involves more buttons and options than my old phone. It doesn't show who sent the text if you go to where they are stored in your inbox. It seems like all functions take longer. Not sure if this model is newer or older than the one I have. I used this phone for 3 days and went back to my cell phone carrier and had them reactivate my old W385. I have no issues with the seller -phone was new and delivery time was great. Looks like I will probably try and resell it. Just beware that even though things are the same model doesn't necessarily mean it will work the same. The model W385 that I had them reactivate is the BEST phone I have ever had.

Believe it or not the "usb sync and charge" cables will NOT charge your axim! I found this out the hard way, by buying a couple ("sync and charge") cables thinking that there must have been a problem with the one I bought. Later, I found out that the electrical current pull required to charge the axim exceeds the USB current rating available from a typical USB port... so you must have a plug-in charger.

I bought this product because the dell sync cradle was just too bulky to stash in my travel bag...(and the sync calbles did not charge)... but with this charger (plus the sync cable) its a compact package when travelling.

The charger is very small, well made, has a status indicator light, and the prongs fold back for storage. The thing is a little pricey (I paid $20) but its unlikely you will find anything better suited.

Handspring Visor Deluxe (Ice)

I got my Visor Deluxe last month and I love it.

If you are considering buying a Visor Deluxe, I'm sure you are deciding between this Visor and PalmIIIxe, because they have similar feature, spac, and they both have the same price.

AT the same time I bought my Visor, my roommate bought a PalmIIIxe (and he also loves his Palm very much). So i'll give you the differences between these 2 PDAs, and let you decide which one you like better.

I'll start with How Visor is better.

-Visor has expansion module, which means alot, you can add many many feature afterward, you can make your Visor am MP3 player too! And you can also easily add more memory to your Visor, while for PalmIIIxe, you can only add 2MB flashcard.

-Visor is a bit lighter than PalmIIIxe (5.4oz Vs 6.0 Oz, not a lot of difference though)

-When you buy a leather case for your Visor, you dont have to stick a valcro to the back of your PDA like you have to for Palm. (Palm need a Valcro to hold it to the case, while for Visor, there's a plastic holder attach to the back of the leather case, so you can jsut put your Visor securely in there)

-Visor comes with a fast USB cradle while Palm comes with slow serial cradle, so if you buy palm and want a fast synconizing, you'll need to buy a USB cradle separatly for about thirty dollars.

-Visor comes with a good quiality stylus, it has solid feel of metal, and if you open it up, there's a little screw driver and a reset pin inside. Palm comes with a piece of plactic stylus, my roomate had to buy a new stylus for about fifteen dolars

-And another important nice thing about Visor is, you have 4 cool colors to choose from (5 colors if you include boring graphite color) If you are getting Visor as a gift to a college students or someone young, they'll love the colors.

Ok, now to what's better about PalmIIIxe

-PalmOS on Palm is upgradable, while Visor user will stuck with PalmOS version 3.1 for the rest of the VIsor's life. However, this is not a problem as it may sounds. most version of PalmOS's are essentially the same thing.

-PalmIIIxe has better display than Visor. Palm has 4bits display, while Visor deluxe has only 2bits. This means that, for Palm, u'll be able to display 16 level of grey-scale, while for Visor, you can only display 4 levels of grey-scale.

So, that's about it for the little comparison chart I made. Other tings about these 2 PDAss are the same, they use same processor, and dimension is the same. (Visor is slightly thicker, and Palm is slightly wider)

As a recommendation if you r going to buy Visor Deluxe, get one of the cool color, don't get graphite one, unless you are a businessman, and want a more sophiticate looking device. Otherwise, other 4 colors are way cooler, (mine's orange)

If you have more cash to burn, then I recommend you getting either PalmVx or Visor Platinum, they are a little bit more expensive. However, I've never used them so I will not write any comments about them.

P.S. DO NOT get a PDA with less then 8MB memory, must have AT LEAST 8MB

I have quite some experience with the use of mobile phones andPDAs. For example, until recently, I had an Ericsson MC16 (based onWindows CE). In practice, I actually did not use much more of it than the agenda, although I could use it for word processing, spreadsheets, web browsing and so forth. I just noticed I didn't need those functionalities that much and if I wanted them, the user friendliness and performance were below my needs. As such, it was too big, cumbersome and slow for me.

Last summer I bought a Palm V for my wife. She really enjoys it and I got to see all the benefits of the Palm-concept. For example, it's so small you just always have it with you. That means killing time waiting somewhere for something can become much more fun and productive: you can continue playing a game or do something more business oriented like reading some notes before a meeting.

When I thought it was time for me to get me a new device, I found out about the Handspring Visor. I also considered the new PocketPC devices like the HP Jornada and the Casio Cassiopeia. First of all, these devices are a lot bigger. Second, they are more expensive. Third, they have a lot of features (color, video, audio) but before you buy such a device, you don't know whether or not you'll actually use it as an MP3 player, for example. So you end up with a device that has too much functionality that you didn't want after all (but did pay for). Plus, if you wanted the device to have new features later on, you would probably only have the option to buy the newer version of it and thus shorten the economic lifetime of the device to perhaps just a year.

The great benefit of the Visor is that you have this all under control. A lot of springboard modules are or will be available. If you are an early adapter, you'll buy yourself the MP3 player, the GPS system, or a camera. If you are not so sure, you will just wait and see how people around you actually use it before you purchase a springboard module.

I myself am interested in really mobile Internet, so not just off-line web browsing when I am on the move (like with avantgo). Therefore, I already downloaded and tested three WAP browsers on my visor. I get online using the IR port to my mobile phone. Today, this is still a bit cumbersome: I cannot walk around doing this (the devices have to keep in line all the time). But soon there will be Bluetooth enabled mobile phones, so if I buy the Bluetooth springboard module I can browse the web leaving my mobile in my pocket, suitcase or on the table.

The Visor gives me this opportunity, which none of the other PDAs in the market can. So even though most springboard modules are not yet available, I do not have to worry getting rid of my PDA for a long time. So, besides the fact that the device is a lot cheaper than most other PDAs, I predict it will also last longer.

Summarizing my review...

Plus: * Looks cool * Good performance * A lot of memory * Better standard calculator than Palm * Buttons can be redefined to any program * The versatility using springboard modules * The nice minimalistic plastic cover can be put on the back side when using the Visor. It gives good protection and does not get lost.

Minus: * Batteries do not recharge and drain quite fast * Thicker and heavier than the Palm V * Does not have all necessary software on board to start making use of IR with other devices...

What an amazing little piece of technology this Visor Deluxe is. Of course, it works the same way a Palm does, but Handspring gives you more stuff for the same money as a Palm IIIxe. Both machines have 8mb of memory (way too much if all you're using it for is a day planner; the 2mb version will be fine for non email users), and work exactly the same way. But the Visor has the expansion module, and while Palm makes do with a serial hotsync connection, Visor has a quicker USB port.

I also had occasion to try out Handspring's customer service the other day (apparently I loaded a bad app onto my Visor, which kept it from booting up), and I'm pleased to say it was fast, very courteous and effective.

The only thing I'd improve on is the thickness of the product, but then again, that's what makes room for the expansion module. And if you look at one of those ultra-thin Palm V's, you'll find they run off rechargable batteries...which means if you're taking it on a long trip, you'll have to bring the charger with you. With the Visor, the AAA batteries last about a month, and they're easy to pack along when you travel (if you think it'll go dead during the trip).

All in all, I'd heartily recommend the Visor to anyone who needs a little organization in his or her life. Now if only Handspring would make good on their promise to make more expansion-module apps...

I know that all Palm OS devices are just as easy to use, but the Handspring goes beyond that with ease of upgrading via the Springboard module.

The USB sync is also faster that the serial port used by other Palm devices. Graffiti is easy and fun to learn, but you can alsways use the on screen keyboard.

Another advantage of a Visor is the 5 colors. This may not sound important, but you'll have all your friends coming over to you and asking "what is that?". There is also a built-in Microphone for use with software that handles voice input, I have never used it, but it has a lot of potential.

But again, I think the best feature is the Springboard module. You can add a MP3 player, digital camera, modem, extra memory, even games and books. Can your Palm do that :)

Pandigital Hand-Held Wand Scanner S8X1100

Be careful, this is not the same product that is advertised. It is very similar but is not the same -it is weird because it says it is Pandigital but the model is Sunglow S8X1100. I found out online that the product is this one: It looks like Sunglow bought Pandigital in September.

I tested it with several pictures and they are ok, but far from high quality. I am returning this right away. Will contact the seller to get a clarification.

Replaced the one I've had for two years. It worked great and scanned thousands of photos and documents. Lived a good life, but I think it was a natural death, just worn out. Can't live without a scanner like this even though my printer will also scan.

Sabrent Sabrent USB 2.0 to DB25F Parallel Printer Cable (USB-DB25F)

I used it to connect an old Canon BJ-200E printer to a new Dell desktop. Win XP did indeed recognize and install the printer as soon as I plugged it in no additional drivers were necessary but I still needed to run the "Add Printer" wizard to get it to appear on my printer list. Then I went into the printer properties and switched from the standard printer port to USB. That was it. **Note that the manufacturer specifies WIN 98SE/2000/XP and Mac OS v8.6-9.2.

When I bought a new iMac to replace an old Dell, I joined a growing family of computer owners. Our laser and inkjet printers are too young to toss out but our new computers don't have a parallel port for a printer. Parallel and serial ports are disappearing, even on Intel/Windows machines.

The computer biz's solution: Come on, buy a snazzy new USB printer for that snazzy new computer! Apple doesn't even list my HP LaserJet 6L among compatible printers for the iMac. Could they be in cahoots? Hmmm . . .

The LaserJet still prints out a razor-sharp manuscript. With a little maintenance now and then, I can get more value out of it than I would for the price of a new printer. Off I went in search of a solution, but at all the usual brick-n-mortars, a simple USB-to-parallel cable was half a C-note!

Back here on Amazon.com, I found this Sabrent cable. Though most of the reviews extoll its virtues on Windows machines, I figured I could gamble the cost.

I hit the jackpot. With the price of shipping, the cable is less than half the lowest price I found. Even better, the iMac already had (or found on the Internet) a driver for the cable, and then hunted up a public domain driver for the LaserJet that works like a charm.

So, a 21st century computer has found the perfect mate in a printer from the late 1990s. And they lived happily ever after.

The Micro has been my favorite flash drive, design and functionally; I have Micros of several sizes from 128MB to 1GB and I intend to get more as the capacity increases.

Apart from the same kudos that I've given the other Micros, this drive was the first one to exceed the capacity of a CD, so that makes this one even better.

EDIT 3/23/06: My dad got the memorex 2 gb TravelDrive and now it's just laying in his secretarys desk. The plastic loop where you put the keyring through broke off and he almost lost it. I told him to get this instead.

Ended up he got the sandisk micro and loves it! So it's better then the products before it and the products out now!

I was very much looking forward to this amazing gadget. A few weeks later I am slightly disappointed and thought I would share this so that other users know what they let themselves in for. I bought it specifically for my iphone, but was very gutted to hear that it only supports video and photo slideshow on the phone. I was hoping to show of some of the amazing apps I bought and am developing myself. The resolution is not great and it needs to be very dark for you to achieve a good enough image. They advertise it by showing that you can shine it on the side of a tent I am not so sure what that would accomplish. If you are in a dark room and you have got a smooth white surface to project against, it is all right. If you were thinking of using headphones while watching the movie, you can't change the volume. So all and all, I would give it a 3 out of 5 and probably would not have bought it had I the chance to do it again.. Sorry.

This is really an impressive little gadget. Quite easy to use, just plug it in to charge, turn it on and attach a device. I attached my iPhone and watched videos through iTunes and YouTube quite easily. On a wall, on a ceiling. There really needs to be very little ambient lighting though. But when it's dark, really a pretty sharp picture for the size of the thing and its resolution. And I was especially impressed by the sound given the tiny size of the speaker.

My only complaint is a lack of documentation. The box came with a "quick start guide" which told you very little beyond how to charge it and a couple of other notes and one "sample" configuration. That's it, and there doesn't seem to be any more documentation online. But given how relatively easy to use it is, this is a minor quibble.

I'm rarely the first to get anything but this thing is COOL. I'm a sucker for tiny form factors. Priced right for a new gadget (thought I could see it going lower in time--under $200 would be nice). We had been looking at buying a used LCD/DLP projector but with this, we got what we needed and more. We just got it yesterday and found it easy to use, reasonably easy to set up with the exception of hooking it up to our portable dvd player. We needed to jerry rig it into a M2M AV connection--the quick start guide doesn't cover this at all and we stole the cable from our tv to make it work. Haven't checked battery life but it's easily run off the ac adapter

That said, my 6 year old LOVED hanging out in our living room watching a movie both off my iphone and the portable dvd. She's already plotting her next sleep over. The picture quality is amazing--our display on the living room wall was probably about 4' x 7-8 feet and very clear given that the room was not completely dark. For a group, you might want to hook it up to external speakers (we hooked it up to our Bose SoundDock and it worked great) but when traveling or for a small group, the sound on the little device is fine. Great when you don't have to force 4 kids to crowd around a little dvd player.

For work, I can definitely see taking this to client sites when I need to do presentations. It's about the size of a digital camera even with the case and cables. Very light, compact. Comes with all the connectors you need for the most part including power adapters for int'l travel.

A clever gadget, especially for the $$. Would be fun if they produce them in different colors like the apple products.

I have had this gadget on back order since reading the rave reviews about it from this past year's CES convention. I am not normally an early adopter -craziness in my book -but in this case, I made the exception because I could imagine that the cinemin could have a role in my life and so far so good.

It's fairly idiot proof, which is a good thing. It's got a great picture that rivals that of my television, and the ability to watch from any surface is just really cool. I've been projected the image on my entire bedroom wall, and it's just awesome. Raymond Chandler would be proud. The cool bits are simply that you can take it from room to room, and also the swiveling head, which seems like a no-brainer once you've seen it, but it is for some reason the only one on the market with this feature.

I say skip the new tv buy yourself an I-Phone and a Cinemin and maybe a Slingbox and watch away.

I was very anxious to recieve this as a christmas present this year. I currently have a Infocus projector which is rather large. It to is a DLP and has a very nice quality of picture to it. I read all the reviews about this prior to my wife purchasing the item (she cant keep secrets very well.)

Lets just start off with the packaging of the item. Very neat well packaged when I opened it up. I m not one for reading instruction manuals, but I did take a peak at the manual, very short and to the point not a lot of detail. My main reason for looking at the manual was to find out about charging the battery before use. Well there wasn't any information that I could find on it so I went straight into testing it out. The iphone adapter is pretty straight forward. Plug it in just like the issued iphone/ipod cable and wait for the blue light to appear to ensure it is seated properly. I then took my 3.5mm AV cable and plugged that into the bottom of the adapter and then the Cinemin. Of course it was daylight out so the picture wasn't very visible. I then took it to a darker room in the house and projected my image on the wall. Very clean after a few tweaks of the focus scroller. I then tested the sound out. Now being that you lose all control of the sound on the Ipod/Iphone after the adapter takes over I was limited to the sound of the Cinemin. The sound was very limited and not very loud. Just enough for 1 person to hear. But I wasnt to concerned about that cause she also bought the Tweakers mini Speakers which work wonders for the sound. In the end I am very pleased with the Cinemin projector and look forward to breaking it with use over the next few years and future deployment I have in the middle east.

Pros: Size, Picture quality, Ease of Use

Cons: Very dark room to watch, Sound on the speaker not very loud.

Sony PEGA-HS10 USB HotSync Cable

I attached this to a Sony Clie SJ22 and it works fine. Makes the connection with the computer USB port and charges the battery from that port without a separate power box. Better than the Sony cables and much less cost.

Perhaps the other guy got a defective cable. The cable worked right out of the box for me and continues to provide as designed synchronization.

It seems simple enough that i just plug the cable into my usb port and then my clie (peg-nr70r) but it doesnt seem to charge or recognise it, im starting to get a little upset but im thinking i may need software to instal. can anyone please help me out i would greatly appreciate it email is adidssocer@aol.com

This is my first review of many, many Amazon.com products. I was little skeptical at first since the seller's website does not include a lot of information.

Out of concern, I contacted the manufacturer/seller and asked a few questions about the product. based on what the manufacturer said I was concerned that the suction cup would not hold onto the iPad correctly.

however, it has been my experience that the iPad 2 holds firmly onto the suction cup and the other suction cup is holding firmly onto my artificial wood desk.

Basically the product is exactly what I needed. the manufacturer includes two extra platforms so that a Velcro system may be used instead of suction cup directly to the back of the iPad however I found those unnecessary and unseemly.

anyway, overall a great product!

Nice idea but wasn't sticking well to surfaces. I would not recommend this product. I do with it worked better as it can come in quite handy.

I am using Kindle E-Reader on a daily basis and was looking for a way to attach it to some surface during reading books instead to hold it. After a long time looking, I finally find very convenient inexpensive holder that I can use at home, at work, on airplane etc.

It is holding my device firmly and I can easily move it from place to place and choose any convenient angle. I can use it at bad or couch. The Flamingo Stand is very helpful and practical. I will definitely recommend it.
